TEAMS have two choices-They can either be like the hand or to be

    like theFIST

    .

The hand is made of five fingers working independently of each other.Spread the five fingers of your hand and you have peaks and valleys. Somenights, when everything is going right, you are on top of one of those peaks. However, it is easy to slide back down to the depths of the valley.

You can slap with the open hand, but it is notgoing to deliver a knockoutpunch.

The fist on the other hand, is a tight-knit group--pulling together in acommon cause. Sure there are still the five individual fingers of the hand,

but now they are working with the other fingers.

If you close the fist and hit, you can deliver a knockout punch.

Once the five fingers of a hand argued among themselves as towhich finger was greatest.

The middle finger argued with ego, "I am taller than all of you.

There are two body guards on either side of me; I amgreatest."

The index finger said, "You can do any work, only if I show youto do that work. Otherwise, you cannot. So I am greatest.

The small finger intervened and said, "Though I am small in size,I stand in the front as the Commander-in- Chief to punish any

individual or teach him a lesson. Therefore I am greatest."

There upon the ring finger laughed and said, "People weardiamond and gem studded rings on the ring finger only. HenceI am the king of all."

Finally, after hearing all the arguments the thumb laughed aloudand wound up that discussion and said, "None of you can

undertake any work without me. Therefore, let us all gettogether and work. We cannot do any work with one finger.

When all the five fingers of the hand join together, we can doany work." Similarly, if people are divided, no work can beexecuted.

    UNITY is very important!

    Yes! Teamwork is like your

hand! There are five fingers and all five work together to be a hand. Each one may be right fora specific task, but all are attached for the good of the whole.

    1. Middle makes room for others: Teamwork creates trust. Build a team and youll create anatmosphere of personal respect for the ideas and thoughts of others.

    2. Ring-finger commitment: Teamwork incorporates vision for the whole. When the team

understands the vision, nearsightedness vanishes. Group together within a common resultand visions can explode. Wilbur Wright needed Orville Wright to explore and discover thegiant invention of flight. Great matters discussed around the table bring fresh vision to theteam.

    3. Point to the partner: Teamwork envelops each gift. Each team member has something toadd. From the simple to the austere, from the cheerful to the stifled, from the bountiful tothe miserly, each member adds their gifted input until the end result is success.

    4. Pinky Promise: Teamwork offers strength in numbers. What one cannot do the team cando.

    5. Thumbs Up: Teamwork builds morale. Just watch any football game for proof. When eachmember gives their irreplaceable contribution, the team plays with motivation, strength andzeal thats morale.
