Team USA Game Notes vs. Canada • Thursday, March 13, 2014 • 2014 Paralympic Winter Games
NORTH AMERICAN NEIGHBORSThe United States and Canada are meeting in the Paralympic Games for the first time since 2002 and just the third time overall. The U.S. topped Canada, 5-1, in round-robin play in 2002 and the teams tied, 1-1, in round-robin action at the 1998 Paralympics. Outside the Paralympics, the U.S. and Canada play each other more than any other nation. During Head Coach Jeff Sauer’s three-year tenure, 17 of Team USA’s 41 games have been against Cana-da. The U.S. has won seven of those 17 contests. Team USA enters today’s game on a two-game winning streak in the series, having beaten the Canadians on Jan. 10 (2-1) and Jan. 11 (3-1) as part of a three-game series in North Carolina. NBC Sports Network will broadcast today’s game live at noon ET. A live web stream is available at TeamUSA.org.
WRITING A NEW CHAPTERAgainst Russia, Adam Page scored the fourth Paralympic goal of his career. He tallied twice versus South Korea on Sunday and pot-ted one goal during the 2010 Paralympic Games. A member of the U.S. National Team since 2007-08, Page has 41 points (24-17) in 96 career games.
CLOCKING INDefensemen Taylor Chace and Nikko Landeros have logged the most ice time of any American players. Through three games, Chace has averaged 30:35 of playing time, while Landeros is close behind averaging 29:08. Chace, a three-time Paralympian, has contribut-ed a goal and an assist in the Sochi Games. Landeros, a two-time Paralympian, leads Team USA in both assists (4) and points (4) during the tournament. MONEY IN THE BANKSteve Cash yielded the first goals of his Paralympic career in the 2-1 loss to Russia. His shutout streak reached 313:17. Dating back to the 2006 Paralympic Games, Cash denied 38 consecutive shots before Russia converted a five-on-three power play at 11:57 of the first period. Named Best Goaltender of the 2010 Paralympic Games, Cash did not allow a goal in 210 minutes en route to the gold medal.
TOUGH TICKETThe match-up between USA and Russia commanded unprecedent-ed fan and media attention. Shayba Arena hosted a crowd of 5,765 and the International Paralympic Committee issued more than 100 credentials to journalists and broadcasters and granted access to 50-plus photographers. SUPPORTING TEAM USAMore than 60 family and friends are in Sochi to support Team USA. Each player has at least two fans who have made the trip. Tyler Carron has the largest personal cheering section with 11. DEFENDING GOLD MEDALISTSEight players return from the 2010 U.S. squad that captured the gold medal in Vancouver, including goaltender Steve Cash; defen-seman Taylor Chace, Nikko Landeros and Andy Yohe; and for-wards Adam Page, Josh Pauls and Greg Shaw. Additionally, Cash, Chace, Lipsett and Yohe all played on the 2006 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team that took home the bronze medal in Torino, Italy.

U.S. NATIONAL SLED TEAM EXPERIENCEFifteen players on the Paralympic roster were members of the 2012-13 U.S. National Sled Hockey Team that garnered the silver medal at the 2013 IPC Sled Hockey World Championship. Brody Roybal is in his first season with the U.S. National Team. Andy Yohe returned to Team USA for the first time since 2009-10.
2010 PARALYMPIC AWARD WINNERSSteve Cash and Taylor Chace were both honored following their performances at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.
