The Design• Deposit oxide on glass panel by

Sol Gel Process

• Melt VO2 at 600C

• Pour it in water

• Spin it 3-5 times

The higher the speed, the lower the thickness

• Fire film at 500C for about 2 hours

• 15g per 500ml of distilled water

Deliverables of the Design Project

• Produce optical shutter designed for 3-5um

• Characterize the shutter for optical performance and switching time.

• Evaluation of measurements would give guidelines development of the shutter in a real system.

• Laser protection should have 50-70 % open transmission and less than 1 % closed transmission

• The switching time from open to closed mode on the order of µs-ms.
