M.A Pip is an experienced and qualified Arts Educator and Theatre Practitioner. She has been conducting her TQI approved Teaching Primary Drama workshops since 2015. She is a Sessional Lecturer in Educational Drama at Australian Catholic University (2007-present) and University of Canberra (2011-2016). Pip has worked with, taught and mentored young people and emerging artists since 1994, directing and conducting innumerable productions and theatre workshops for a wide variety of schools/organizations (early childhood, primary, secondary & tertiary). She has completed a BEd. (University of Sydney), MA in Theatre Studies (University of New South Wales), Certificate in Film Production (New York University) and Certificate in Script Editing (Australian Film Television Radio School). In 2014 Pip co-created ANTHOLOGY (www.anthology.net.au) a critically acclaimed & award winning (Canberra Critics Circle), ACT Government funded site specific journey installation performance. Teaching Primary Drama: Professional Learning Workshops with Pip Buining

Workshop 1: Elements & Improvisation (3 hours) When: 9am-12noon, Saturday 19 May, 2018 Where: Canberra Theatre Centre, meet in the Foyer near Box Office. What: Participants will be actively engaged in a wide variety of fun, practical Drama games/exercises whilst being introduced to the basics of the Elements of Drama (as prescribed by the Australian Curriculum, The Arts, Drama) and Improvisation. The workshop will explore: - the basic Elements of Drama (role/character, relationships, situation, voice, movement, focus, tension, space, time, language, ideas and dramatic meaning, mood and atmosphere and symbol) - Drama as a learning medium in the Primary classroom and how Drama can be used across the curriculum - the basic conventions of improvisation such as offer & accept, blocking, extending, advancing, physicalising and transformation.

Workshop 2: Integrating Drama Across the Curriculum (2 hours) When: 9am-11am, Saturday 16 June, 2018 Where: Canberra Theatre Centre, meet in the Foyer near Box Office What: This practical workshop explores ways in which Drama can effectively and authentically be integrated across the curriculum. Participants will engage in a wide variety of improvisation based exercises and Process Drama techniques that focus on integrating Drama into other areas of the curriculum. Each exercise will allow space for participants to engage in reflection, focusing on ways they could adapt/extend/scaffold that exercise and integrate it into their own teaching practice for various learning purposes.

Expected learning outcomes for participants will include: - an improved professional knowledge of Primary Drama as outlined in the Australian Curriculum - the development of alternative collaborative teaching practices - the capacity to improve student learning across the curriculum through Drama - promote further enquiry into Drama as an effective and meaningful way to engage students across the curriculum - express their ideas in a spontaneous context and engage in co-operative decision making - explore the importance of reflection and critical analysis in the drama classroom. - address practical considerations such as student safety and behavior management in the Drama classroom.
