SoCiAl STUDieS eDUCATion

Position: Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) who is committed to the teaching of social studies and teacher education in diverse settings and demonstrates a developing research agenda in one or more of the following areas: geography and place-based education; sustainability/environmental education; urban education that addresses emergence of global cities; and education of students of diverse linguistic/cultural backgrounds.

Responsibilities: Teach courses with a content focus in one or more of the areas above as well as curriculum and pedagogy courses germane to the preparation of social stud-ies teachers and future professors. Advise masters and doctoral students; engage in sustained and field-based scholarly inquiry; participate in and contribute to professional organizations, college outreach, and curriculum development projects.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED:

Assistant Professor: Earned doctorate by September 2011 in social studies education or closely related field; social studies teaching experience; evidence of a developing line of scholarship within the field of social studies education in one or more of the following areas: geography and place-based education; sustainability/environmental education; urban education that addresses emergence of global cities; and education of students of diverse linguistic/cultural backgrounds.

We welcome applicants who share the College’s commitment to examining and acting upon issues of equity and social justice; to demonstrating a stance of inquiry toward the interrelated roles of learner, researcher, teacher, and leader in P-12 schools; to collaborat-ing across differences in and beyond professional communities; to working closely with others in the Program in Social Studies, the Department of Arts and Humanities, and the College; and to being a team player on the various research, training, and curriculum development projects within the Program and Department.
