Content Development Overview: DETAILB. Instant ActivityStudents will be told to find their own general space in the gym
Turkey Wing Catch: Each student will be giving 1 balloon and will spread out in the gym so that they have their own personal space. Keeping their arms bent in front of them to represent “wings” of a turkey, students will toss their balloon up in the air and catch it with their “wings.”
B. Communicating purpose of the lesson
Talk Turkey: Hello, class! Can someone tell me what holiday is coming up? Right! Does anyone remember what we worked on last week? Correct, throwing and catching! Today we will be doing a bunch of activities that dealing with throwing and catching but there are turkeys everywhere. It’s going to be so much fun! Can someone remind me how to throw underhand? Yes, face the wall and your arm goes tick-tock! What about overhand? Right, your side is to the target and your arm goes way back! Let’s get our turkey day started!

D. Closure: So far this year we have done a lot with balls! Today we practiced throwing and catching balls. Can you remind me what is important about throwing? What is important about catching? Next time we are going to practice throwing and catching things other than balls. What do you think some of those things might be? When might we need to catch or throw something in real life, outside of physical education? Throwing and catching takes a lot of practice to be really good at. We’ll keep practicing. Next week we will start our tumbling unit. We have a lot of exciting things planned for you! See you next time!
Reflection: Overall I thought this lesson went pretty smoothly. I stayed with my seven students throughout the lesson and was able to give a lot of individual attention on their overhand and underhand throwing. The gym was split into three stations where my peer teacher and I rotated so all of the children would have an equal opportunity at each. The one station was overhand throwing at wall targets, the next was turkey launchers, and the third was underhand throwing at turkey bowling pins and an assessment.
I thought the setup was great. We had everything we needed and the children stayed organized throughout the activity. If there was one thing I could change it would have been to do a little less because we were short on time setting up and tearing down because we had so many thing and we went over our allotted time. Another thing I would have altered would have been the times that we switched to the next stations. We didn’t plan out a time to switch so Kristen and Megan took all the time they needed to implement their assessment and I hardly had any time for my students to complete the assessment and students were rushed out the door.
I believe the task progression was in line in my lesson. At each station we worked on separate things so it did not really matter which order we went to each station. As far as teaching by invitation and intra-task variation goes, I believe I used them both to keep all students engaged. Students were free to pick from different targets and different distances at most times. I was also able to see students that needed a challenge and offer it to them. This lesson was not perfect and I would have probably used more TBI with different sized targets and at more levels but I thought it worked just fine for still being in the first five times I’ve ever worked with elementary aged children.
I think that the children enjoyed the class for the most part. There were sections of my lesson where the children were becoming bored with the tasks because, like I said before, we did not plan out what intervals we were going to switch stations so I was stuck at certain stations for a while. I have had very well behaved students and I’m not sure if that’s luck or I’m actually holding them accountable for their actions by being critically demanding.
In the future I would change this lesson quite a bit. I would maybe use the turkey launchers as a short 2-minute activity and not take up so much class time with them. They were fun for the students at first but were also unreliable. I would also set up an interval at which I would switch to the next station if I were teaching in a group like I was today. Obviously, without two other teachers helping with the other students, this lesson would not be ideal.

Jumping Cupsby Kristen Sutcliff, Photographs by Ed Judice
This rubber band–powered toy flings a cup skyward, making it ideal for bringing a rocket or jumping frog to life.Materials
2 plastic cups 2 rubber bands tape paper and crayons
XInstructions
1. To create our simple launcher, you'll need two plastic cups that are the same size. Make four evenly spaced, half-inch snips in the rim of one cup.
2. Cut two rubber bands, knot them, and place them in the slits so that they are just taut, as shown. Place a piece of tape over each slit on the inside of the cup to
keep it from splitting.
3. Have your child do a drawing, then cut it out, and tape it in place on the cup with the rubber bands.
4. To launch, press this cup down over the other cup. Quickly let go and watch the cup blast off!

Thanksgiving Paper Plate Turkey Craft http://www.allkidsnetwork.com/crafts/thanksgiving/paper-plate-turkey.asp
This Thanksgiving paper plate turkey craft uses a small paper plate, some construction paper and paint to make an adorable decoration for the holiday. This turkey is simple enough for even young children, but can be altered to keep the attention of an older child by letting them add some fun accessories (how fun is a turkey with a pink crown, or one with a baseball hat and bat!). Turn it into a craft for the whole family and enjoy your Thanksgiving!
What you'll need:
1 small paper plate Red, yellow and orange construction paper 2 Googly eyes Scissors Glue Tape Brown paint Paint brush
How to make your Thanksgiving Paper Plate Turkey Craft:
Paint the small paper plate brown and set aside to dry. Cut feather shapes out of the construction paper. You'll need 2-3 feathers of each color. Cut a small triangle out of orange construction paper for a beak. Cut a small peanut shape out of red construction paper for a waddle. Cut two feet out of orange construction paper. Tape the feathers onto the back of the paper plate. Glue the eyes, beak, waddle, and feet to the front of the paper plate.
