This Spring, gather friends, family and colleagues together and host a special Forget Me Not Tea Party in memory of a baby special to you whilst raising vital funds for Aching Arms. A tea party is a great way to get together and can be held anywhere – at work, at home, at a village hall or even at the park (weather permitting!) and can be as big or small as you want to make it.

The most important thing is to have fun and create a special day which brings people together.

The last two years have been a great success. We have been overwhelmed with how well you supported the Forget Me Not Tea Party fundraiser and this year we are hoping it will be even more successful.

What a good way to beat the winter blues by planning an entertaining fundraising tea party for friends and family in the Spring!

How to hold a Forget Me Not Tea Party

1. Think of a theme

You could go for a sophisticated afternoon tea, a fun coffee morning or a teddy bears picnic where everyone could bring along their special bear.

2. Type of tea party

Will your tea party be a community fundraiser where you try to get as many people as possible to come along or would you prefer a smaller gathering for afternoon tea? Are you going to organise it on your own? Maybe you could team up with a friend or two to share the workload?

3. Decide your location and date

At home, at work, in the community – think about who you would like to invite and how many people you can fit into your chosen venue. Perhaps your employer would allow you to hold a tea party at the office, or maybe you and your neighbours may like to get together for a garden tea party? Once you know where, the next step is when - arrange a date for your tea party, which can be held any time between 1st March and 30th June 2020.

4. Organise fundraising

Think about how you will raise money in aid of Aching Arms. Will you charge a general admission fee or simply ask for donations for tea and cake? Perhaps you would prefer to run an event where people pay a set amount each and you provide a table service? Try to think of ways to reduce your outgoings, like asking friends to bake or donate cakes, borrow crockery and cutlery, seek donations from local businesses for a raffle.

Why host a Forget Me Not Tea Party?Every person who holds a tea party is helping to raise much-needed awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss. Some supporters have told us that their events were a great way to start difficult conversations with family and friends about their experience of baby loss and how they would like to remember their baby.

• In 2019, our wonderful supporters raised an incredible £28,500 by hosting tea parties. The funds raised helped Aching Arms to offer comfort to hundreds of bereaved families across the UK following the loss of their baby during pregnancy, at birth or shortly afterwards. We give the gift of an Aching Arms comfort teddy bear which is dedicated by other another family in memory of their baby.

• We now work with over 150 hospitals in the UK along with a number of hospices, funeral directors and care homes. We post out approximately 80 bears a month to bereaved families. We provide the bears free of charge to hospitals and the other agencies. We also offer a free awareness training programme for midwives.

• This year, we would love to beat last year’s total and raise as much as possible to ensure that we can continue to supply our bears to hospitals, provide training to health care professionals and reach as many families as possible.

This is how the funds you raise are spent:- £10 covers the cost of 1 bear- £175 pays for an awareness training session at a hospital- £260 pays for us to supply a hospital with 24 bears and

accompanying leaflet.

“ I loved organising a tea party last year. It was wonderful to bring together so many people from the community and raise money for such a worthy cause.”
