Editor’s Letter

Welcome to the first issue of Tea and Toast magazine. I am so excited to share this issue with you! In this issue you will find a mix of fashion and

food, two of our favourite things here at Tea and Toast.

This issue is based all around the theme of the weekend, with elements that will please each variety of weekenders; relaxed brunch recipes and sparkly

fashion editorials for glamorous Saturday nights out.

A guide to one our favourite locations, Old Spitalfields Market, giving you all the tips and information you will need for a trip.

We have ventured into the biggest trends for Spring/Summer 2014, with a personal favourite in the form of pyjamas as stylish day wear which I

particularly enjoyed styling.

A special thank you goes to all who modelled, assisted, and generally helped in the collation of the issue, I couldn’t have done it without any of you!

Happy Reading!

Livvy Newman, Editor-In-Chief

Located five minutes away for Liverpool Street station Old Spitalfields Market offers a refreshing juxtaposition to the towering buildings around the busiest spot in the city. It embodies the new and old elements of London, a well maintained market with modern restaurants but has all the charm of old London. It is also a very short walk for Brick lane, the vintage hub of the city allowing for a visit to show off all the elements of what London has to offer.

Sunday mornings is the recommended time to visit as all the stalls and food markets are in full swing, however it provides a much calmer atmosphere on a weekday evening when visiting one of the restaurants.

The market has a huge range of stalls selling mainly handmade and vintage

items, ranging from clothes and jewellery to leather bags. If you’re a little more food orientated there a huge range of food stalls, mainly sweet to compliment the many restaurants and permanent food fixtures.

As well as the market there are a large variety of clothes shops such as Dr Martens, Jones and Jones, Traffic People and Barbour. A recent addition to the shopping experience is pop up shops, a recent pop up shop addition is the hugely successful Cambridge Satchel Company.

For the more creative shoppersLomography, One Deko, and Lollipop Shoppe which range from interior design to photography.

Go for a little wander next time you’re in the area!

Vintage Fair

Lou Lou’s vintage fair is a travelling

event that graces many towns and cities

around the UK allowing vintage lovers

and sellers to come together on a

Sunday afternoon. Entry is a small fee of

£3, however the size and variety of the

event depends on the town or city.

The Southampton edition of the fair

was busy and loud with live singers and

a vintage tea party, which was hard to

resist! The pricing of the items

depended on the stall however it was on

the pricier end of the spectrum for the

clothes that that were on sale.

The fair also featured stalls that sold

handmade jewellery and clothing that

had vintage inspired elements.

The tea party hosted a wide range of

delicious cakes and scones. The tea and

cake were served in mismatched bone

china, which made many fair goers want

to take it home with them (members of

the Tea and Toast team included!). The

fair is an enjoyable way to enjoy a Sunday

afternoon, even if you’re not looking to

buy but its worth it for the tea and cake

alone!

Find out when they’re visiting your town by visting

their website!http://www.thevintagefair.com/

Turtle Bay

For those of you who love your food

with a bit of spice and a Caribbean

influence Turtle bay is defiantly worth

a visit. As well an impressive menu a

whole host of cocktails that are

alcoholic and non-alcoholic so no one

misses out.

The restaurant has a summer feel with

garden tables and chairs as the main

furniture, as well as reggae being

filtered out over the speakers it is easy to

to get into the relaxed Caribbean

lifestyle. All food is served in metal or

tin crockery or on a wooden board that

really adds the local touch to the dining

experience. With a choice

between the lighter menu and one-pot

menu no mealtime is restricted,

however both options are very filling.

Tea and Toast especially recommend the

sweet potato fries, which are cooked to

perfection.

Steet burger with colelsaw and sweet potato fries. 43
