I am happy to know that the Department of Environment
& Forests, A&N Administration is celebrating "69th" Van Mahotsav"
in these Islands alongwith rest of the country during the entire
month of July, 2018 with active involvement of people of these
Islands.
Van Mahotsav - the festival of tree planting owes its
origin to the great visionary Late K.M. Munshi, the then Union
Minister for Food & Agriculture who launched the programme in
1950 with the slogan "Tree means water, water means bread
and bread is life". The benevolent services rendered by trees
and forests in supporting the life on Earth and their contribution in
mitigating the ill effects of soil erosion, air pollution, global warming,
climate change etc. deserve not only our respect but it is also our obligation to protect and
conserve them for our posterity.
Over the years there has been ever increasing demand for timber, fuel and fodder. To
meet such demand there is a need on the part of one and all to grow more trees. The farmers
should also grow trees on some part of their land holdings so that their timber requirements can
be easily met. Similarly all Govt. Departments/Private Organisations/Panchayati Raj Institutions
and public should make efforts to take up tree planting on their vacant lands to improve the
surroundings environment. We should not end with the ritual of planting saplings, but it should be
ensured with adequate care that the saplings planted grow well.
On this occasion, I would appeal to all inhabitants of these Islands to grow more trees,
to keep these Islands more green, clean and prosperous.
I extend my best wishes to the people of our Islands for successful observance of the
“69th Van Mahotsav" celebrations.
Jai Hind!

Moscow, June 30
England's Round of 16
opponents Colombia may not
be a major South American
football force like Brazil or
Argentina but Los Cafeteros
have outscored both of them
over the last two World Cups
while having played fewer
matches.
Many England fans were
celebrating despite their team's
1-0 loss to Belgium in their last
group match that saw them
finish second and set up a
knockout game against the
Colombians, as the path
beyond the last 16 looks
somewhat easier.
England could face Sweden or
Switzerland in a potential
quarter-final, while Belgium are
surrounded by former
champions Brazil, France and
Argentina in the other half of
the draw.
But a look at Colombia's
matches at this World Cup and
the 2014 edition in Brazil reveals
they have been more effective in
total than their bigger South
American opponents while also
playing fewer games.
Led by world-class players such
as James Rodriguez and Juan
Cuadrado, but missing key
striker Radamel Falcao in 2014,
Colombia scored a total of 12
goals in five matches at the
World Cup in Brazil, having
reached the last eight.
Colombia outscore Brazil, Argentina
over two World Cups
more awareness on Kisan Credit Card, General Purpose
Credit Card (GCC), SHG, JLG, PMMY, Stand up India
scheme. He also discussed about Pradhan Mantri Awas
Yojana and to make it more feasible with LIG scheme.
The AGM, RBI, Kolkata, Shri Vipin Kumar Singh while
speaking stressed that all the banks should conduct
monthly financial literacy camps, especially the rural
branches, which will in turn, lead to more awareness on
various schemes of the Govt.
The AGM, NABARD, Smti. Sharmila and Manager,
NABARD, Smti Selma Sunny stressed on the need to
focus on priority sectors such as agriculture and to
improve the credit flow besides implementation of BHIM
APP under Digital India.
The Lead District Manager, SBI, Shri K Mohan Rao
while reviewing the progress made during the March'18
Quarter discussed various steps needed, to improve the
performance included improvement in C:D ratio and
recovery etc. The meeting culminated with the vote of
thanks proposed by the Chief Manager (Credit), SBI.
