President, Shri Pranab Mukerjee has tweeted his congratulations on the great feat by the ISRO. In a tweet the President said, "This day shall go down as a landmark in the history of our space programme”. The Vice President of India, Shri M. Hamid Ansari in his congratulatory message said, the flawless launch underlined the efforts to make the use and exploration of space more accessible and affordable. ISRO scripts history by launching 104 satellites in a single flight President, VP & PM congratulate scientists on the great feat by ISRO Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi while congratulating the scientists, said, this remarkable feat by ISRO is yet another proud moment for our space scientific community and the nation. India salutes our scientists, he added. The 39th mission of ISRO PSLV-C37 was successful as it placed the 104 satellites in the orbit. Of the104 satellites, 101 satellites were from international clients. Of these- 96 belong to USA, 5 from International customers of ISRO - Israel, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, respectively. Two other Indian nano satellites INS-1A and INS- 1B were also placed in orbit. India now surpasses the record of Russian Space Agency which had earlier launched 37 satellites in one go. The Lt Governor, in his address complimented Indian Coast Guard for the yeoman service rendered to the Islanders and the commitment displayed towards safety and the security of the region. He also had a special mention of the Coast Guard’s initiative of 'Swachh Sagar Abhiyan', under the aegis of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary congratulated the Department of Information, Publicity & Tourism for organizing the Film Festival here in the Islands after a gap of five years. He said, it reflects a new development in the Islands since till recently, not too many cultural activities were being organized here. The Chief Secretary further stated that Film festival is an important requirement here, since people residing on mainland have the opportunity to watch films and such opportunity should also be made available for the Islanders as well. He said, the Islands have plethora of stories to tell pertaining to freedom movement and natural beauty etc. which also offer great opportunity for film making in Isles. He said, Films are a medium of expression and expressed hope that in the comming years, film makers will also make films about these Islands. The Chief Secretary stated that the film festival is being organized with an aim to provide the Islanders an opportunity to see good films and to inspire youngsters to take up film making. Apart from IT industries, film making industry also has a great potential in Isles, he added. The Chief Secretary also directed the IP Department to organize Port Blair, Feb.15 The Union Territory Level Bankers' Committee (UTLBC) meeting, which was held in the conference hall of Megapode Resort here today, reviewed and discussed the performances and progress made by banks during the quarter ending December 31, 2016. These included credit disbursal position for priority/non priority sector, outstanding advances, progress under education and housing loan and the recovery position during the last quarter. Matters regarding implementation of centrally sponsored schemes such as PMEGP, KCC, GCC, SHGs/JLGs were also reviewed and bankers were advised to improve the performances so as to achieve the targets set for the financial year ending March 31, 2017. Speaking as the chief guest of the meeting, the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Anindo Majumdar acknowledged the achievements made during the last quarter and said that improvements have been made by banks despite the big challenge of demonetisation during the quarter. This was possible because of the joint efforts made by banks and the Administration in tackling the situation that arose out of demonetization, in meeting the cash requirements of the Islanders as well as tourists. He said, there has been growth in registration of digital transaction, seeding of Aadhaar and mobile phone numbers with saving bank accounts despite the great challenge of connectivity. The Chief Secretary urged all banks to improve their performance in achieving the targets. The Chief Secretary also mentioned that the Digi- Dhan Mela, which was organised in the Islands, UTLBC meeting held CS urges banks to improve performances to achieve set targets Port Blair, Feb. 15 The South Andaman police has warned all the scuba, snorkelling and tourist boat operators to take all safety measures for the safety of every tourist and behave properly with them. The advisory has been issued in view of the recent incident that occurred at North Bay, wherein a tourist died, and the frequent instructions being given to the scuba Police asks scuba & snorkelling operators to take all safety measures for tourists and snorkelling operators, tourist boat operators from time to time, besides conducting meetings with them to sensitize them about the issues. In a press release received here today, the Superintendent of Police, South Andaman, has stated that the service providers have not been following the safety measures besides not behaving properly with tourists, especially ladies. They have been warned to refrain from such practices.
