The ProjectSEGRO plc and Roxhill Developments are currently in the process of constructing the East Midlands Gateway. This new logistics park has come to be known as an “inland port” due to its strategic placement right at the heart of the UK’s transport network. With direct access to the M1 and close proximity to the UK’s second busiest cargo airport, the East Midlands Airport, this well connected and central location will offer the best possible distribution services to the whole of the UK.

The development covers an expanse of land measuring 6 million ft2 which will be used entirely for storage and warehouse distribution, and this new logistics park is already set to serve several large companies such as Amazon and Nestlé. So far the project has included the construction of a new highway structure to achieve the maximum potential that its location offers, as well as extensive earthworks for creating its very own rail freight terminal.

Scope Of ServicesAs our client required additional capacity, they asked TDS to complete the detailing and fabrication drawings for the project’s steelwork. Our scope of works included:

Our team were able to work from the modelling already completed by the client to successfully deliver the detailing and fabrication drawings for the project’s mezzanine and office steelwork. Our teams used their skills to ensure that safety standards were met, whilst offering cost-effective solutions. We were also tasked with adding orientation and lifting holes, as well as marking plans.

Although our phase of the project is complete and the mezzanines are ready for construction, the logistics park still has much work to undergo and will not be open until 2019. We look forward to seeing the exciting developments that the strategic placement of this massive development will bring to the logistics industry.
