Learn how to collect blood and specimen samples for yourcurrent health care job,or to make yourself more marketable.The phlebotomy technician is an integral member of thehealth care team in a variety of settings including hospitals,clinical laboratories, physician offices and medical centers.Thisprogram provides 200 hours of classroom theory and clinicallab instruction. The U.S.Department of Labor predicts a 29% increase inemployment for dental assistants in the next 10 years.The dental assisting program offers educational andclinical experiences with current technologies, includingdigital radiographs and computer technology, in astate-of-the-art dental lab housed in our new facility space.The program consists of classroom, laboratory, pre-clinicand internship. Classes typically meet evenings, withsome day and weekend classes required. Internshipsbegin in June and take place during regular businesshours. Motorcycle Rider Education

Motorcycling is one of the most exciting forms of transportation. Part of the thrill is knowing that you are totally responsiblefor every action taken — from timing each shift to keeping a keen eye out for other motorists. To understand theseresponsibilities and get the most from your experience, a Connecticut Motorcycle Rider course is the place to start. Expertinstruction is offered to both the beginner and the experienced rider. Students must have the ability to ride a bicycle, and lotsof enthusiasm.A 10% insurance discount and exemption from the Motor Vehicle Department’s on-cycle skills test are offeredto students upon their successful completion of this program.Winner of the National Motorcycle Safety Foundation’sOutstanding Community Training Sponsor Award!

Effective January 1st all applicants for a new motorcycle license mustsuccessfully complete the CT Motorc ycle Rider Education Program.

Sharpen your boating skills and have the confidenceto venture to new places off shore.This course is designed for those12 years and older. Classes are small to ensure students develophands-on charting and plotting skills using nautical charts, tools, andpublications. Topics include: longitude and latitude; position fix;dead-reckoning; GPS and radar basics; compass deviation andvariation, using plotting tools; marine time conversions; speed,distance and time calculations and cruise planning. Upon completionof the class, students will receive the DEP Connecticut CoastalBoaters Endorsement sticker for their operating certificate.Students need to bring a calculator to class.Prerequisite: basic safe boating course or instructorpermission prior to the start of the course.All classes meet for one Saturday, 8:30AM-4:30PM in room 6–127 and are $99.

General InformationContinuing Education Units (CEUs):Some non-credit courses earn Continuing EducationUnits. The CEU is a nationally- recognized, standardreporting measure for continuing education activities.One CEU will be awarded for each 10 hours oforganized instruction. A permanent record isestablished for each student enrolled a non-creditcourse. A certificate is issued to those whosuccessfully complete a CEU course. For a coursethat is awarded CEUs (or for someone seeking acertificate of completion for a course) the student mustattend at least 80% of the sessions and achieve apassing grade in the course.

Withdrawals/Refunds:Refunds may be obtained if your written withdrawalis submitted to the Workforce Development &Continuing Education Office three business days priorto the first meeting of your class. Refunds generallytake 2-4 weeks to process. There are no refunds formotorcycle classes.

Course Cancellations:Courses offered through Tunxis WorkforceDevelopment & Continuing Education areself-supporting. Low enrollment may result in coursecancellation up until the day before the class begins.Students may accept a refund or transfer the tuition toanother course during that semester. In the event ofinclement weather, please call the Weather Infolineat 860.255.3501.
