Math: Last week, the students were introduced to place-value involving ones, tens, hundreds and thousands. We worked with base-ten blocks in order to reinforce the concept behind each place-value. We also worked with patterns in math in which students had to identify which place-value was changing. The students were introduced to the vocabulary terms, standard form and written form. An example has been provided below. Standard Form: 5,482 (digits only) Written Form: Five thousand, four hundred eighty-two (words only) This week in math, we will again be working with place-value using place-value strips . The students will be introduced to the vocabulary term, expanded form. In expanded form, the students will be asked to break down the value of each number or EXPAND the number based on place-value. Lastly, the students will begin to compare and order numbers using the greater than, less than symbol(s). Expanded Form: 5,482 (5,000 + 400 + 80 + 2) T.C.
