ULTIMATE DRIVING TOURS 32 TASMANIAN DRIVING TOUR

A WORD FROM OUR CEO

" Just unbelievable; out of this world – a bucket-list dream with new but now lifelong friends." Adam & Kerryn, AustraliaGuests on 2019 European Supercar Tour

WHY ULTIMATE DRIVING TOURS?

F I N D O U T M O R E

Ultimate Driving Tours evolved from my lifelong love of motoring. It started as an idea, then became a small project between like-minded friends. We found a select group of clients who shared our passions for travel, enjoying the finer things in life, and driving incredible cars in great company. And it soon became apparent that we had found a winning formula.

But the roots of UDT’s story begin much earlier than our first tour. For over twenty years, I have participated in, created, directed and owned motoring events, starting with a celebrated tarmac rally series. After seven years of growing the rally into a beloved Australia-wide motoring event, I turned my focus to the international arena, taking a group to motorsport mecca – Nurburgring. This initial venture was perhaps a little more rough and ready than the refinement of our current tours, but it was the genesis of a beautiful journey.

Over the years, and with the help

of our ever-growing global team, Ultimate Driving Tours has evolved into a renowned and award-winning luxury adventure travel business—the world’s premier provider of extraordinary driving, motorsport and track experiences. From Europe to the Americas and Australasia, we now offer the most diverse and far-reaching selection of incredible motoring adventures, with all the elements of an unforgettable luxury travel experience.

Our experiences are designed to let you live out your bucket-list, whatever may be on it. Whether you would prefer to experience a fleet of supercars on the world’s best driving roads, watch the Grand Prix of Monaco from the plush seats of a superyacht, get behind the wheel of a real F1 car at a private track day, or dine with motorsport legends like Sir Jackie Stewart, our events cover all the ‘must do’ experiences associated with motoring.

But an Ultimate Driving Tour is also

about much more than cars, more than driving. Our experiences take you to stay in the finest boutique and experiential accommodation, dine in celebrated restaurants, and savour unique and exclusive lifestyle experiences. That might include a private tour of one of Europe’s most prestigious vineyards and champagne maisons, or a chartered private jet, helicopter or yacht, and so much more.

We hope that you too will become one of our family of guests, and join us for the journey of a lifetime. After perusing this brochure, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team. We look forward to hearing from you and to having you along.

To a life of adventure,

Anthony MossCEO & FounderUltimate Driving Tours

Your Tasmanian odyssey begins in Melbourne on Sunday, where the

group will meet at the centrally located Lorbek Luxury Cars, before convoying together to catch the overnight ferry to Tasmania—the Spirit of Tasmania.

The first drive day is the perfect warm up to the Targa rally, and begins with an early start and a great breakfast at the Tasmanian Food and Wine Conservatory. Afterwards, scintillating country roads around Tasmania’s north are your arena for the day, as the convoy will carve its way through verdant forest reserves on the road to Launceston. A fantastic late lunch at the AGFG-hatted Josef Chromy Wines awaits in the afternoon, and in the evening, the group will arrive at

Launceston. Then it’s time to prepare cars and drivers for the excitement of tomorrow’s rally, and enjoy the locally-sourced chef’s menu with matching wines at the award-winning Mudbar restaurant. Your accommodation for the night is the five-star Peppers Silo, overlooking the Tamar River.

On Tuesday, you will experience the first of two amazing days participating in the Tour category of the TARGA tarmac rally on its 30th anniversary. A motorsport event of significant prestige and heritage, the opportunity to drive in the rally is a coveted one, and lets you follow in the tracks of racing legends including Peter Brock, Jim Richards, and Sir Stirling Moss. As the Tour category is a non-competitive

format, it’s the most enjoyable way to feel a rare thrill—driving your favourite car on closed roads. This is a liberating experience that will challenge and excite you as you explore some of Tasmania’s best driving roads, free from interference.

The first day of the rally follows an exciting loop to the west of Launceston, as you cut a sweeping line up through the forests towards Devonport, passing through Sassafras before crossing the Mersey River and heading south to Mount Roland to navigate some more technical switchbacks and open the throttle for some hillclimb sections. After Deloraine, the Tour heads south through the Liffey Forest and up into the epic highland regions to trace along

30TH ANNIVERSARY TARGA TARMAC RALLY

the edges of Great Lake. After cutting through the Great Western Tiers, the route then takes in some of the scinitllating tight turns of Poatina that are sure to get the adrenaline pumping. Afterwards, it’s time to unwind at the hotel with a relaxed dinner, and get a great sleep for another big day on the tarmac tomorrow.

Wednesday brings day two of the 30th anniversary rally, and the next chapter of your closed road adventure. Follow the incredible drive out through historic farmlands to the Tasman Sea at St Helens as the rally passes through coastal stages on the east coast. At Chain of Lagoons, we will turn back inland to motor upwards through the Central Highlands before traversing

On Thursday, with the excitement of the Rally still fresh in your

mind, you will resume driving on the open road with an alpine adventure through the highlands around Cradle Mountain. Enjoy an incredible drive through Tasmania’s west coast hinterlands as we get a day ahead of the Targa Rally and carve our own path along some of the island’s most dramatic West Coast roads en route to Hobart.

We will follow the Murchison Highway between Murchison Lake and Lake Rosebery, then into the heritage goldfields and mining country of Queenstown, navigating the infamous ‘99 bends', a section of curvaceous, silky-smooth tarmac that traverses a

mountain range between Strahan and Queenstown, and is great for drivers looking to put their car through its paces. We will also stop at ‘The Wall in the Wilderness’ at Derwent Bridge—a 100 metre-long masterpiece of Huon Pine by local sculptor Greg Duncan.

In the afternoon, lunch is a celebration of the freshest seasonal produce at the Agrarian Kitchen Cooking School & Farm. Afterwards, the convoy will cruise into Hobart to arrive at the the multi-awarded MACq 01 hotel. This five-star property will be your luxurious home for the night—a majestic new addition to the waterfront that captures Tasmania’s pioneering spirit and reinvents it through curated design and ambience.

After some time to rest and relax the group will reconvene in the early evening to board a well-appointed catamaran and enjoy a sunset cruise up the Derwent River. The catamaran will take the group up to the township of Woodbridge where the group will enjoy dinner at the award-winning architecturally designed Peppermint Bay Hotel, offering gourmet cuisine and panoramic views across the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island.

Friday is the last day on the open road section of the drive. It will be a day to savour the journey as you drive a spectacular route from Hobart back to Devonport via the Central Highlands and travel along a diverse array of roads

and ever-changing scenery. Along the way, the group will enjoy a winery lunch at Frogmore Creek, and revel in great driving conditions with magnificent backdrops as you pass up through the Great Lake Conservation Area, into the Central Highlands and back to Tasmania’s north.

Supper at Ghost Rock Wines is the perfect way to cap off your luxury adventure and take a moment to reflect on the journey that was, before heading back onto the Spirit of Tasmania for the return trip to Melbourne. The following morning we will rise and disembark from the ferry early, then enjoy a final farewell breakfast before your onward travel plans.

UDT takes your health and safety seriously. In light of the current pandemic, we have implemented a number of health and safety practices for both guests and staff. These include:

• Sanitising stations for use on arrival and departure at all venues and stops• Adherence to social distancing throughout the event• Daily temperature checks

We also require venues and suppliers to follow health and safety procedures, and request guests similarly act responsibly in terms of informing us if you feel unwell in the lead up to or during an event, or have had close contact with a confirmed or suspected case.

Lastly, on our events we avoid big cities and crowded places where possible. If feasible, we also book exclusive use of hotels, restaurants and experiences, or request separate, private spaces for our guests.

How does the driving work?

The drive operates in a loose convoy, with a lead and sweep car (driven by professional drivers), and two-way radio contact between all vehicles. The lead car navigates for the convoy and provides updates on conditions, so drivers can focus on enjoying the cars and drive. The sweep car ensures no one becomes lost or separated from the group.

The drive per day is around 250km/155mi over 6-8 hours including regular stops for morning/afternoon tea, lunch, and driver/car changes.

What type of roads do we drive?

Our team has spent over a decade researching and testing the best roads in the world. All tours are planned so as to avoid heavily trafficked cities and seek out the freedom of the open road. The routes chosen for our tours cover a variety of road types that accentuate both the location and the tour type. You can expect to navigate tight switchbacks and hairpins on alpine passes, and then enjoy loose,

flowing country backroads, and fast-paced autostradas. We always choose roads that are incredibly scenic, so whether you’re behind the wheel or passengering for a section, you will find plenty to enjoy.

What type of guests join your tours?

Guests from around the world attend our tours. We typically host a mixture of groups of friends, families, business associates, and plenty of couples. While we do recommend sharing the experience with someone your know or as a group, we also cater for guests coming on their own. In this case, you will be partnered with another solo driver.

Ultimately, our tour groups are made up of like-minded people who share a passion for motoring, and enjoying the finer things in life. Many go on to keep in contact after the tour and often become life-long friends.

How does pricing work?

Your tour package is priced per person and is based on two people per vehicle. Typically the driving is shared between

occupants, who alternate between being behind the wheel and being a passenger. In the case that one participant prefers not to drive, the other will be able to enjoy double the time behind the wheel, while the passenger can soak up the stunning scenery and excitement of riding along. As outlined on page 12–14, your Tour Investment consists of your Tour Package and any Optional Add-Ons.

Where do guests stay and dine?

Accommodation and dining is designed to complement your overall experience. Our team seeks out the most luxurious and unique hotels in the regions we visit, which can include ornate castles, private villas, boutique resorts, and more. Dining is always a social affair, pairing gourmet cuisine with fine wine, over which the group can share stories and experiences.

Depending on the size of the group, guests may stay as a collective, or diverge into smaller groups at nearby luxury hotels, commensurate with your selected package. Accommodation packages and upgrades dictate the hotel and room category.

Follows is a selection of common questions. For any further queries, please contact our team.
