Inprobe-deploymentmode,TASERCEWsaredesignedtotemporarilyincapacitateapersonfromasaferdistancewhilereducingthelikelihoodofseriousinjuriesordeath.Whenusedasdirected,TASERCEWshavebeenfoundtobesaferandmoreeffectivethanothertraditionaluse-of-forcetoolsandtechniques.However,itisimportanttorememberthattheuseofforceandphysicalincapacitation,bytheirverynature,involveriskthatsomeonewillgethurtormayevendiefromfactorsthatinclude,butarenotlimitedto:physicalresistance,exertion,individualsusceptibilities,and/orunforeseencir-cumstances.Anyuseofforce,includingtheuseofaCEW,orphysicalexertioninvolvesrisksthatapersonmaygethurtordie.

Chapter 2: General Information

What is the TASER X26P CEW?TheX26PCEWisafirmware-upgradableweaponmanufacturedbyAxonEnterprise,Inc.

The X26P CEWuses a replaceable cartridge containing compressed nitrogen to deploy two smallprobesthatareattachedtotheX26PCEWcartridgebyinsulatedconductivewires.Thecartridgesareavailablewithvariouswirelengthsfrom15to25feet(4.6to7.6meters).Saleofcartridgeswithwirelengthlongerthan15feetislimitedtolawenforcementandmilitaryonly.

TheX26PCEW’sTrilogylogcanbeuploadedsecurelytoAxonEvidence(Evidence.com)services.TheX26PCEWhasaninternalmemorythatstorestheoperatingfirmwareandadeploymentrecord.SeeTrilogy Log (Chapter5) for more details. Those who do not have an Axon Evidence account can use theOfflineEvidenceSyncsoftwaretodownloadasimplifiedlogtoalocalcomputer.

TheX26PCEWhasanestimatedusefullifeoffiveyears.

Neuro Muscular Incapacitation (NMI)

TASERtechnologyisdesignedtouseelectricalimpulsessimilartothoseinyourbody’snervoussystemtocausestimulationofthesensoryandmotornerves.NeuroMuscularIncapacitation(NMI)occurswhenaCEWisabletocauseinvoluntarystimulationofboththesensorynervesandthemotornerves.Itisnotdependentonpainandcanbeeffectiveonsubjectswithahighlevelofpaintolerance.

Previous generations of stun guns primarily affected the sensory nerves only, resulting in paincompliance. A subject with a very high tolerance to pain (e.g., a drug abuser, person in seriouspsychologicaldistress,oratrained,focusedfighter)maynotbeaffectedbythepainormightbeabletofightthroughthepainofatraditionalstungun.

Chapter2:GeneralInformation

Basic X26P CEW Electrical Theory• Electricitymustbeabletoflowbetweentheprobestodeliveranelectricalchargeandwillgenerally

follow the path of least resistance.

• Generally,thegreaterthespreadbetweentheprobesonthetarget,thegreatertheeffectiveness.

• Electricitywillgenerallynotpasstoothersincontactwiththesubjectunlesscontactismadedirectlybetween or on the probes, or the wires are touched.

• Electricitycanarcthroughmostclothing,andevensomebullet-resistantmaterials.

• Exposure to water will not cause electrocution or increase the power to the subject. The electrical chargeisfixedinsidetheTASERCEW,andwillnotincreasesignificantlyevenwithenvironmentalchanges.

• TheCurrentMeteringtechnologyisdesignedtodeliveroptimalcharge.

X26P CEW FeaturesGettoknowtheX26PCEW:

EnsuretheCEWisunloaded,thesafetyisinthedown(SAFE)position,andyourfingersareawayfrom the trigger before reading the serial number.

Safety SwitchAmbidextroussafetycanbeoperatedfromeithersideoftheCEW.

• Safety switch down(SAFE).

• Safety switch up(ARMED)andreadytodeploy.

• Do not block thesafetyononesideofthe X26P CEW while attempting to move it ontheotherside.ThiscanbreakthesafetyanddisabletheCEW.

• Withdefaultsettings,iftheX26PCEW’ssafetyswitchisleftintheup(ARMED)positionformorethan20minutes,thesystemgoesintolowpowermodetoreducetheamountofpowerconsumed,andtheCEWwillnotfire.AlthoughtheCEWwillnotfire,powerisstillconsumedandwilleventually

LASERTheLASERinstalledintheX26PCEWisorientedwiththemechanicalsights.At15feet(4.6m),theaimingpointisalignedtotheapproximatetrajectoryofacartridge’stopprobe.

Mechanical Sights The mechanical sights on the X26P CEW are molded to provide manual aiming of the CEW. The mechanicalsightsaresettocoincidewithatopprobe’strajectoryata15-foot(4.6m)distance.

Performance Power Magazine (PPM) Battery PackThePerformancePowerMagazineisalithiumenergycellpowersupplysystemfortheX26PCEW.

Note:X26PbatterypackswillnotworkwiththeTASER7,X3,orX26CEWs.BatterypacksdesignedfortheX2CEWwillworkintheX26PCEW.

Batterypacksshouldbestoredintheiroriginalpackaging,includingthedesiccantbag,untiltheyaretobeused.DonotstorethePPManywherethatthegoldcontactsonthetopofthePPMmaytouchmetalobjects.Ifyoucauseanelectricalshortbetweenthesecontacts,theshortwilldrainthebatteryandmaycausethepackitselftobecomedangerouslyhot.

The PPM battery has enough power for approximately 500 five-second discharges depending ontemperature,environment,useoftheflashlight,andotherfactors.ThePPMbatterywilldepletefasterin colderweather thanwarmweather. Likewise, thebatterywill deplete fasterwith theflashlightactive.

Changing the Battery PackTochangethebatterypack:

1 Point the CEW in a safe direction.

2 Ensurethesafetyswitchisinthedown(SAFE)position.

3 SafelyremovetheTASERcartridge(donotplaceanybodypartsinfrontofthecartridge).SeeUnloading (Chapter4) for more information.

4 Tounloadthebatterypack,depressthebatterypackreleasebuttonandremovethebatterypackfromthehandleoftheCEW.

5 Inspectthebatterycontacts.EnsurethattheyareappearinworkingorderandarefreefromdirtorotherresiduethatmayinterruptthebatteryconnectiontotheCEW.

6 InstallthenewbatterypackandensurethatitisfullyinsertedintheX26PCEW.Applysufficientforce to ensure the battery pack is fully seated.When thebattery pack seats properly, thereleasebuttonshouldpopoutfromtherecessedportionwithanaudibleclick.

Tactical Performance Power Magazine (TPPM) Battery PackThe optional TPPM has an extension to provide a larger grip on the CEW. The TPPM does not hold an extra cartridge.

eXtended Performance Power Magazine (XPPM) Battery Pack

To install a TASER standard cartridge in an XPPM:

1 Ensure the cartridge cover is removed. See Removing the Shipping Cover from the Cartridge (Chapter4).

2 Keepingyourhandawayfromtheblastdoors,depressthetabsonthesidesofthecartridge.

3 Insert the cartridge in the XPPM so the blast doors face forward, toward the front of the CEW.

Toremovethecartridge,keepingyourhandawayfromtheblastdoors,depressthetabsagainandpull the cartridge out of the XPPM.

Automatic Shut-Down Performance Power Magazine (APPM) Battery PackTheoptionalAPPMisamodifiedbatterypackthatshutsdowntheoutputoftheX26PCEWafterfivesecondsandalsocontainsabuilt-inspeakerthatalertsyoutotheimpendingshutdown.TheAPPMiconwillbedisplayedinthetopleftcorneroftheCIDwhentheCEWdetectsthatanAPPMisinstalled.

Under stressful situations, audio exclusion might prevent you from hearing the alert from the APPM.

TheAPPMprovidesanaudiblebeepingalertforthelasttwosecondsofatrigger-initiatedcyclebeforeautomaticallyshuttingdownthecycle.Aftera5-seconddeploymentduration,theenergyburstwillstopevenifyourfinger isstillpullingthetriggerswitch.Theaudiblebeepingalertwillcontinuetosounduntilthetriggerswitchisreleased.Tore-energizethedeployedcartridge,firstensurethatyourfingerisoffthetriggerswitch,andthenpressthetriggeragain.

ReplacingtheAPPMwithaDifferentBatteryPackYourCEWwill recognizetheAPPMasauniquetypeofbatterypack. IfyouremovetheAPPMandreplaceitwithadifferenttypeofbatterypack,theX26PCEWwillreturntoitsnormalconfiguration.Thatis,therewillnolongerbeanaudioalert,andtheenergycyclewillcontinueafterfivesecondsifyourfingerisstillholdingdownthetriggerswitch.AlwaysconfirmthattheCEWperformsasexpectedbeforereturningittodutyafterchanginganybatterypack.

eXtended Automatic Shut-Down Performance Power Magazine (XAPPM) Battery PackTheXAPPMholdsanextraTASERstandardcartridgeliketheXPPMandenablestheautomaticoutputshut-down functionality of the CEW like the APPM. Signal Performance Power Magazine (SPPM) Battery Pack (Model T00074)

The optional Signal Performance Power Magazine (SPPM) is a battery packdesignedtoworkwithdevicesthatareequippedwithAxonSignaltechnology.

WhenanX26PCEWisequippedwithanSPPM,shiftingtheCEW’ssafetyswitchtotheup(ARMED)positioncausestheSPPMtosendasignal.Uponreceiptofthissignal, a compatible device can perform a programmed response.

Note:Your CEWmust have firmware version 4.032 or greater tomake use oftheSPPM’sspecialfeatures.Withoutthefirmwareupdate,theSPPMonlyfunctionsasabatterypacklikethePPM.EvidenceSyncversion3.15.30orgreaterisrequiredtoconfiguretheSPPM.SeetheEvidence Sync User Manualformoreinformationonfirmwareupdates.

TheSPPMtransmissionbeginsafterthesafetyswitchisshiftedtotheup(ARMED)position.Thesignalhasarangeofupto30feet(9.1meters)line-of-sight.

TheSPPMiconwillbedisplayedinthetopleftcorneroftheCIDwhentheSPPMhasstartedtransmittingtheCEWstatus(seethetablebelow).

ThesearethetypesofinformationtheSPPMtransmissionsends:

Automatic Shut-Down OptionThe SPPM can enable the automatic shut-down feature when used in a CEW. The X26P will function thesamewayasifitwereequippedwiththeAPPMbatterypack.SeeAutomatic Shut-Down Performance Power Magazine (APPM) Battery Pack for more information. To enable the automatic shut-down feature, theagencymustconfiguretheCEWthroughAxonEvidenceservices.

SPPM Transmit in Safe OptionTheX26PCEWcanbeconfiguredtoremainpoweredafterthesafetyswitchisshiftedtothedown(SAFE)position,whichallowstheSPPMtofinishthetransmissionofanypendingstatusforthefull30seconds.TheCIDwillcontinuetodisplaytheSPPMiconanddisplayamessage“DONOTREMOVEBATTERY.”Ifthesafetyswitchisshiftedtotheup(ARMED)positionwhilethedeviceisstillsendingaSignal transmission, the 30-second timers for each status event will be restarted. Do not remove the SPPMfromtheCEWuntilthedevicehasfinisheditsSignaltransmissionandtheCIDgoesblank.To

enabletheTransmitinSafefeature,theagencymustconfiguretheCEWthroughtheAxonEvidencewebsite.Enablingthissettingwilldecreaseexpectedbatterylifetimefirings.

Signal Mute ModeIfyourCEWisequippedwithanSPPMbatteryback,SignalMuteModecanbeenabledtoNOTalertAxoncamerastorecord.Thismaybeusefulwhenperformingafunctiontest.SeeFunction Test (Chapter5)formoreinformation.MuteModeisenabledbytheuserwhentheCEWisinconfigurationmode;see Enabling SPPM Signal Mute Mode.Thedevicewillreturntonormaloperationafterthesafetyswitchisplacedinthedown(SAFE)position.Anypending30-secondtransmissionswillbediscontinued.

Updating the SPPM FirmwareToupdatetheSPPMfirmware,thedevicemustbeconnectedtoaTASERcentraldeviceovertheair(OTA).TheCEWsendsacommandtotheSPPMtostartatransmissionforthisconnectionwhentheCEWisinconfigurationmode.Withthesafetyswitchinthedown(SAFE)position,presstheselectorswitch on the top of the X26P CEW. After a connection with a central device has been established, the CIDwillchangetodisplaytheSPPMbatteryiconandamessage“DONOTREMOVEBATTERY.”Oncethe connection to the central device has ended, the CEW will return to the standard selector mode menuortheCEWwillexitconfigurationmode.

Advanced Central Information Display (CID)TheAdvancedCIDisamonochromeorganiclightemittingdisplayonthebackoftheX26PCEW.Whenthesafetyswitchisshiftedintotheup(ARMED)position,theCIDwilldisplaythebatterystatus.

Energy Cell Indicator:61-80% Remaining

System Status IconsThe system status icons are designed to inform you of the system status of the X26P CEW. It is a fault indicator only, and it is the user’s responsibility to conduct proper maintenance, and ensure that the CEW is working properly before any use. Failure to heed the system status icons could cause serious injury or death.

Major fault indication. Ayellowtriangle indicates that the logging,dateand time functions,orability for theCEW to successfully read thePPMinformation are not working properly. The CEW will still produce anelectricaloutput(e.g.,theCEWshouldstillarcanddeploycartridges),buttheaccountabilityfunctionsarecompromised.

Shift the safety switch to the down (SAFE) position and then to the up(ARMED)position;thefaultmayclear.

Whether the fault clears or not, it will be recorded in the Engineering log. Ifthefaultdoesnotclear,doNOTattempttousetheCEW.TheCEWmayneed to be repaired or replaced. See Product Returns (Chapter 5) for instructions

Critical fault indication.Ayellowstopsignintheupper-rightsideoftheCIDindicatesasystemfailure.

Critical faults are rare.DoNOTattempt touse theCEW. TheCEWmayneed to be repaired or replaced. See Product Returns (Chapter 5) for instructions.

Invalid battery pack.Ifyouseeablinkingexclamationpointandbatteryicon,this indicatesthattheCEWdidnotrecognizethebatterycorrectly.Remove thebatterypackand reinsert it. If theerror is still present, tryanotherbatterypack.Iftheiconstilldisplays,theCEWshouldbesentinfor service if it is still under warranty. See Product Returns (Chapter 5) for instructions.

AnAPPMorXAPPMbatterypackisinstalledintheCEW.

When there is an SPPM transmission in the safe mode or the SPPM is connecting for updates, the warning DO NOT REMOVE BATTERY isdisplayed.

Battery Level IconsWhenthesafetyswitch is in theup (ARMED)position, theCIDwilldisplay thepercentageofbatterypowerremaining.Remainingcapacitywilldisplayin20percentincrements.

When thebattery leveldropsbelow20percent,Axonrecommends that thebatterypackbereplaced.

The LO BATT warning will be displayed when the batterycapacityisbetween1–40percentforTASERCAMHD.

Battery01–20%Blinking

Ifthebatterycapacityisat1–20percent,thisicondisplaysinthe lower-right portion the CID.

WhentheTASERCAMHDbatteryisdepleted,theCIDwillflashthe warning RECHARGE BATTERYontheCIDwhenthesafetyswitchiscycledtotheup(ARMED)position.

WhenusinganyPPM-typebatterypack that isdepleted, theCIDwillflashthewarningCHANGE BATTERY on the CID when thesafetyswitchiscycledtotheup(ARMED)position.

Spark DurationTheCIDdisplaysacountindicatinghowmanysecondsthedeploymentcyclelasts.TheCEWwillcountup from the number 1 up to 99. At 99 seconds, the count will restart at 1.

Sample CID DisplaysTheCIDbelowshowstheX26PCEWwithaTASERCAMHDrecorderinstalledandabatterycapacityof 61–80 percent.

AnX26PCEWequippedwiththeAPPMbatterypackislimitedto5-seconddischargesandemitsanaudio alert two secondsbefore the endof the cycle. In the event of an accidental discharge, immediately move the safety switch to the down (SAFE) position to stop the discharge cycle.

Chapter 4: Cartridges & CEW operation

Removing the Shipping Cover from the Cartridge

CartridgesaresoldseparatelyfromtheCEW.Cartridgesareshippedwithashippingcoverinplace.CarefullyremovethesecoversbeforeattemptingtoloadacartridgeintotheX26PCEW.Becarefultonotallowanybodyparttobeinfrontofthecartridge.Staticelectricitycandischargeacartridge,andinjuries have occurred. A cartridge cannot be loaded into the CEW with the cover in place. Once the cartridge cover is removed, it can be disposed of.

1 Beforeremovingthecovers,makesurethefrontofthecartridgedoesnotpointatanybodypartoratanyone.

2 Carefullyplacethecartridgewithcoverfacedown(blastdoordown)ontoastable/solidsurface,i.e., a table.

3 Placeyourindexandmiddlefingersontothesidesofthecartridgewherethewedges/electrodesarelocatedandplaceyourthumbsontothelockingportionsofthecover.

4 Pushinwithyourfingersandpulloutwardwithyourthumbsandthecartridgewillpopupward,releasing it from the cover.

15, 21, LS, and XP25 TASER CartridgesNever attempt to open or modify a TASER cartridge. Tampering with a live TASER cartridge could causeittofireormalfunction(whichmayresultinseriousinjury).

Handle all TASER cartridges with care. Probes may deploy unexpectedly if exposed to physical shock, or static electricity.

TASERcartridgesshouldbekeptawayfromconditionsknowntocreateanelectrostaticdischarge,suchasrubbingcloth(e.g.,jacketlineroruniformpants)acrossacartridgeinanenvironmentknowntocreatestaticshocks.

Cartridgeblastdoorscanbeknockedoffthefrontofacartridge.Becausethosecartridgescannotbereliedupontoconsistentlydischarge,TASERrecommendsremovingthosecartridgesfromservice.Attemptingtodeployacartridgewithnoblastdoorscouldresultinachargebeingcreatedandheldinthewires.Anyconductivematerialthatcomesintocontactwiththefrontofthecartridge,evenafterthecyclehasended,coulddrawthechargetotheignitionpinanddeploytheprobes.

TASERoffersaBlastDoorRepairKitthatcanbeusedtoreplaceblastdoorsthatcomeoff.Cartridgeswithreplacedblastdoorsshouldonlybeusedfortrainingandshouldnotbedeployedtothefield.Gotowww.axon.comformoreinformationontheBlastDoorRepairKit.

AFIDEvery time a TASER cartridge is deployed, approximately 20–30 small confetti-like Anti-FelonIdentification (AFID) tags are ejected. Cartridges can be assigned to individual users, as each isserialized.EachAFIDtagisprintedwiththecorrespondingserialnumberofthecartridgedeployed,allowingdeterminationofwhichuserdeployedtheparticularcartridge.

Load the TASER CartridgeNever place your hands or fingers in front of the cartridge. This is especially importantwhenloading and unloading the cartridge. Serious injury could result. When loading and unloading always hold the cartridge on the sides or top.

TASER cartridges are shipped with a shipping cover in place. Remove these covers before attempting to load a cartridge into an X26P CEW. See Removing the Shipping Cover from the Cartridge for more information.

The 15-, 21-, and 25-foot (4.6-, 6.4-, and 7.6-meter, respectively) TASER cartridges are specificallydesignedsothere isno“up”or“down”position–enablingyoutoquicklyreloadoneinastressfulsituationwithoutworryingaboutputtingitinupsidedown.

Aiming and Probe Placement

Formost deployments, hold the CEW level.Tilt the CEW when necessary to align theprobes with the target.

All TASER CEW deployments should be inaccordance with current TASER training and warnings, and department training, policies, and procedures.

When practicable, aim the LASER at the preferredtargetareasofthebody,whicharethelowercenter-mass(belowthechest)andlegs when the subject is facing you, or thesubject’s back if the subject is turned awayfromyou.

When possible, avoid intentionally targeting the CEW on sensitive areas of the body such as the head, throat, chest/breast, or known pre-existing injury areas without legal justification.

The top probe impacts the target near the LASER beam; however, the probe impactdistancefromtheLASERwillvarydependingon the distance between the CEW and the

target,typeofcartridge,etc.At15feet(4.6m),theLASER’spositioncorrespondstothetrajectoryofa25-foot(7.6m)cartridge’stopprobeatthesamerange.

The bottom probe impacts at an 8-degree angle from the top probe. This results in a spread of approximately1foot(0.3m)forevery7feet(2.1m)ofdistancefromtheCEW.Greaterprobespreadincreaseseffectiveness.

“Silence is Golden”TheTASERCEW’selectricalcurrentisrelativelyquietwhenbothprobesmakedirectcontactwithahumanorananimal. Incontrast,somepracticeconductivetargetsare loudbecausetheenergy isarcing in the air.

Ifelectricalcurrentisloudduringfielddeploymentandthesubjectisnotreactingasexpected,theelectricalcircuitmaynotbecompletedorthecurrentmaybeshortingoutandmaynotbeeffective.Deployasecondcartridgeorconsiderotheroptionsinaccordancewithyouragency’spolicies.

Audible Pulse Rate ChangesTheCEWnormallyarcsatanaveragerateof19pulsespersecond(PPS).ToimprovetheservicelifeoftheCEWandbatterylife,firmwareversion4.029allowsthePPSratetodroptoapproximately9PPSwhenthereisnoconnection(e.g.,asingleprobehit,clothingdisconnect,etc.).Thus,firingprobesintoanon-conductive targetwill likelycause thisPPSreduction tooccur.Upondetectingaclosedcircuit,thePPSwillimmediatelyreturnto19PPS.ThischangeinPPSdoesnotaffectdailyfunctionalitychecks,drive-stuns,oreffectiveprobedeployments.

PotentialCausesofReducedorNoEffectiveness• Loose or Thick Clothing.Iftheprobeslodgeinclothingandaretoofarawayfromthesubject,CEW

effectivenessmaybereduced.

• Miss or Single Probe Hit. The electrical current must pass between the probes. If one probe misses, theCEWwillnotbeeffective.

• Low Nerve or Muscle Mass.Iftheprobesimpactinanareawherethereisverylittlemusclemass(e.g.,thesideoftheribcage),theeffectivenessmaybereduced.

• Limited Probe Spread.Probespreadsoflessthan12inches(30cm)mayresultinreducedCEWeffectiveness.

• Wires Break.Ifawirebreaks(e.g.,duringastruggle),thecurrentwillnotflowtotheprobesandtheCEWwillnotbeeffective.

Inanyoftheabovescenarios,asecondcartridgemaybedeployedoradrive-stunfollowupmaybeusedifpractical,justified,andwithinyouragency’spolicy.

Do not become over-dependent on the TASER CEW. No force option, including CEWs, is 100% effective in every situation. Do not deploy the CEW without following your department policies and procedures.

ElectrodesThe front of the X26P CEW has two metal electrodes. These electrodes direct the charge to the electrodesonthecartridgetoinitiatedeploymentoftheprobes.Inaddition,theelectrodesprovidetheabilitytousetheX26PCEWina“drive-stun”modeasatraditionalstun-guntypeCEW.

Drive-Stun Backup Drive-stuncapability isavailablewithorwithoutaTASERcartridge installed.Toapplyadrive-stun,placethesafetyintheup(ARMED)positionandpullthetrigger.

Whenusingthedrive-stun,push(drive)thefrontoftheCEWfirmlyagainstthebodyofthesubject.Simply“touching”theCEWagainstthesubjectisnotsufficient.ThesubjectislikelytorecoilandtrytogetawayfromtheCEW.ItisnecessarytoaggressivelydrivethefrontoftheCEWintothesubjectformaximumeffect.

Drive-stunmodeisnotdesignedtocauseincapacitationandprimarilybecomesapaincomplianceoption.Drive-stunisonlyeffectivewhiletheCEWisincontactwiththesubjectorwhenpushedagainstthesubject’sclothing.AssoonastheCEWismovedaway,theenergybeingdeliveredtothesubjectstops.

Iftheprobesaredeployed,evenatverycloserange,theusermaydrive-stuntoanotherportionofthebodythatisfurtherawayfromtheprobes,therebyincreasingthepossibilityofinducingincapacitation.

Suggested pressure points are highlighted in the green areas. Use care when applyingthedrive-stuntotheneckorgroin(yellowareas–usersshouldonlytarget theseareaswhen theyaredefending themselves against a violentattacker).Stayawayfromthetracheaandbackoftheneck.Thetracheaissofttissueandcouldeasilybecrushed.Thecervicalportionofthespineisverysensitivetopressure.Also,careshouldbetakenwhenapplyingadrive-stuntothepelvictriangletoavoidthepossibilityofcrushingthetesticles.

What to Do following CEW UseConsiderations for Handling Used Probes

Eachagencywillestablishitsownprocedureforproberemoval,collection,biohazards,evidencecol-lectionandmaintenance.Treatprobesthathavepenetratedthebodyascontaminatedneedles(bio-hazard).Remember,however,thattheprobesmayalsobevaluableevidence.

If the probes must be removed from the subject, follow all department policies and procedures, in-cludingforhandlingbiohazards.

Belowaresuggestedmethodsforproberemoval.

• Grabtheprobefirmlyandquicklypullitstraightout.Donottwisttheprobeasthebarbedtipmaycauseadditionalinjury.

• Iftheprobesarenotgoingtobecollectedandmaintainedforevidence,carefullyplaceusedprobessharp-tipfirstintoasharpscontainer,secureinplace,andplaceinasecurelocationwherenoonewillaccidentallytouchtheprobes.

• Once the subject is restrained, prior to removing the probes, evaluate the need for medical atten-tionasyouwouldwithanyotheruse-of-forceincident.*

• Takephotosofanyinjuries,placethephotosintoevidence.*

• Collecttheexpendedcartridge,probes,andAFIDsandplacethemintoevidence.*

*Asdirectedbydepartmentpolicy.TheTASERtrainingmaterialsprovideadditionalinformationonforensicevidencecollectionprocedures.Theprobes,wires,AFIDs,andcartridgecanyieldimportantforensicevidenceifproperlycollected,maintained,andanalyzed.EnsurethattheCEWisdownloadedandthedownloadedlogsarecollectedperyouragency’spolicy.

EffectsonAnimalsTASERCEWscanbeaneffectiveoptionfordealingwithaggressiveanimalsandhavegenerallybeensuccessfulindeployments.

Note: Ifaprobedeploymentcompletedcircuitisinitiatedandmaintained,theaggressiveanimalsareusuallyincapacitated/stunnedmomentarilyinCEWdeployments,butrecoverquickly.Typically,theanimalsquicklyleftthesceneandbrokethewires.

Do not remove the USB cable or press the reset button on the Dataport USB pack during the reprogramming cycle.

Event LogTheEventlogtrackseventsandmayhelpprotectauserfromclaimsofexcessiveuseofforcebypro-vidingdocumentationofthetimeanddateforeachCEWdeployment.TheEventlogalsoprovidesagencieswithapowerfulmanagementtooltotrackusagepatternsandhelppreventmisuse.Youdonot need to download the X26P to Axon Evidence services to obtain the Event log – this can be down-loadeddirectlytoyourPCusingtheEvidenceSync(Offline)software.

TheEventlogincludesthefollowinginformationforthemostrecent(approximately)16,000entries:

• Eachentrycontainsthedateandtimeofeachevent.

• Entries includeArmed,Safe,Trigger,USBconnection,PowerSavemode,firmwareupdates, timesynchronizations,PPMchanges,SPPMEndoftransmission,agencysettingchanges,etc.

• The duration of each Trigger event.

• ThedurationofeachSafeevent(howlongtheCEWwasarmedwhenthesafetyswitchwasmovedtothedown[SAFE]position).

• The internal temperature is shown for Armed and Safe events.

• Batterypercentageisshownforallarmedsessionevents(Armed,Trigger,Safe).

Whenthelogfillstoapproximately16,000entries,itwilldeletetheoldest4,096recordsandwritenewones. This process will continue in 4,096-record increments.

Pulse LogThePulselogrecordsanypulseactivity.TherecordsincludehowlongtheCEWwasdischarged,andthechargeofeverypulse.

Engineering LogTheEngineeringlogmonitorstheperformanceofkeysub-systemswithintheX26PCEW.Itprovidesalertsifasubsystemisnotperformingproperlyandifmaintenanceisadvisable.Anyinternalcircuitryerrors that occur inside the X26P CEW are written to this log. This information is used for diagnostics.

Time Synchronization TheCEWhasareal-timeclockpoweredbythebatterypackandaninternalbatteryaswell.TheCEWshouldkeepaccuratetimeevenwhenthebatterypackisremoved.

Every time theX26PCEW is connected toAxonEvidence services, the systemwillperforma timesynchronization.Theconversiontolocaltime,includingadjustmentstodaylightsavingstime,areallcomputedbyEvidenceSyncsoftware.ThereisnoneedtoprogramtheX26PCEWtolocaltimeortoreprogramtheCEWtodaylightsavingstime.

IfyoudonothaveanAxonEvidenceaccount,theCEWwillsynchronizewithyourlocalcomputer’stime.

Note: InEvidenceSyncOfflinemode, ifyourcomputer time is incorrect, the incorrect timewillbedisplayedinyourEvidenceSync-generatedreport.

X26P CEW Maintenance and CareEachagencyshouldestablishamaintenanceandhandlingprogram.

The X26P product is a sensitive piece of electronic equipment, and should be handled with care. Avoid dropping an X26P CEW. Do not use an X26P CEW that has a cracked handle.

• Checkthebatterypackregularly.Replaceitwhenthebatterypercentagereaches20%.

• OccasionallywipeouttheX26Pcartridgedeploymentbaywithadrycloth.Multiplecartridgefiringscreatecarbonbuild-up(particularlyaftertrainingcourses)thatshouldberemoved.

Do not wipe out the X26P cartridge bay immediately after the CEW has been fired as you might receive a latent short electrical shock. Wait at least five minutes after the last dis-charge of the X26P CEW before wiping out the bay.

• Secure the X26P CEW in a protective holster when the CEW is not in use.

• Function test the CEW before each shift.

• UpdatetheCEW’sfirmwarewhenupdatedfirmwareisreleased.

• DownloadyourX26PCEWdatatoAxonEvidenceservicesoryourlocalPCatleastonceperquarterandalwaysbeforesendingtheCEWforrepairorwarrantywork.

• Avoid immersing the X26P CEW in water or exposing the X26P CEW to excessive moisture or water.

CheckexpirationofTASERcartridges(5-yearexpirationdateislistedonthebaseofthecartridge).DonotuseanexpiredTASERcartridgeinthefield.Theyshouldonlybeusedfortraining.

Follow these steps for a CEW that has been completely submerged in water or exposed to a significant amount of water for an extended period of time.

Dry the X26P CEW thoroughly (at least 24 hours). Do not use an external heat source such as a microwave oven or hair dryer to dry the X26P CEW.

6 PointtheCEWinasafedirectionandawayfromyourbodyandensurethatthesafetyswitchisinthedown(SAFE)position.

7 Safelyreinstallthebatterypack.

8 Waitoneminutebeforeproceedingtothenextstep.ConfirmthattheCEWorbatterypackisnot getting warm.

9 Shiftthesafetytotheup(ARMED)position.

• IftheCEWdischargeswithoutthetriggerbeingpressed,shiftthesafetyswitchtothedown(SAFE)positionimmediately,removethebatterypack,returntheCEWtoAxonEnterpriseperthereturnpoliciesiftheCEWisstillunderwarranty.

• If the CEW does not discharge, go to step 10.

10 LookattheCIDtoensuretheX26PCEWisfunctioningproperlyandtheCIDisnotshowinganyfault icons.

11 ConfirmthattheLASERandflashlightareworkingproperly.

12 Press the trigger switch to test the functioning. Conduct three complete 5-second discharges to confirmtheproperpulserateandobservethatthecyclestopsatfiveseconds.Seetheinstruc-tions under Function Test for more information.

13 Ifthetriggerswitchdoesnotwork,oriftheCIDshowsacriticalerroricon,shiftthesafetyswitchtothedown(SAFE)positionimmediately,removethebatterypack,andreturntheCEWtoAxonEnterpriseperthereturnpoliciesiftheCEWisstillunderwarranty.

14 IftheCEWdoesfunctionnormally,shiftthesafetyswitchtothedown(SAFE)position.

15 ConnecttheCEWtoEvidenceSyncandconfirmtheinternaltimeiscorrect.SeetheEvidence Sync User Manual for more information.

16 Confirmthatthethreetriggerdischargeswererecordedproperlyinthedownloadrecords.

17 Return the CEW to service.
