19. Self-healing Transport Network (Cont'd)

19.1 General Description (1)(2)

Self-healing Transport Networks (STN) provide for dedicateddigital transport from two or more customer specified STN AccessNodes, one of which, at a minimum, must be a Telephone Companycentral office (CO Access Node). An Access Node is a TelephoneCompany central office or a customer premises equipped with STNfeatures and functions. The Telephone Company will identifycentral offices equipped with STN features and functions. For alisting of the Telephone Company offices equipped with STNcapabilities, see the National Exchange Carrier Association,Inc., Tariff F.C.C. No. 4.

Rates and charges for Self-healing Transport Network for are setforth in Section 19.4 following, with the exception of theservices provided by the Telephone Company in the MetropolitanStatistical Areas (MSAs) in which the Telephone Company hasreceived Phase II pricing flexibility pursuant to Subpart H ofPart 69 of the Commission’s Rules. The rates and charges for theSelf-healing Transport Network in the MSAs that have receivedPhase II pricing flexibility are set forth in Section 39.

(1) Effective May 15, 2010 STN Volume Options 36 and 48 are no longeravailable to new customers. There is no change for existing customers.

(2) Effective February 16, 2012, STN Volume Options 3, 6, 12 and 24 are nolonger available to new Customers. There is no change for existingCustomers.

31.3 ReliaNet Service (1)

31.3.1 Service Description

ReliaNet is a transport service, providing customer accessto a SONET-based high capacity inter-office networkutilizing ring network architecture for facility redundancyand fault-tolerance in the event of a single facility orequipment failures.

The basic structure of the ReliaNet revolves around the SWBT(the Telephone Company) inter-office network. Thistransport network consists, by definition, only of TelephoneCompany central offices. Each central office on theReliaNet network is called a node. These nodes are equippedwith the SONET transmission equipment necessary to producethe bandwidth to transport a variety of Access Services.Depending on the volume option level required by thecustomer, the inter-office network is sized to accommodate.

ReliaNet will utilize bandwidth from the inter-officenetwork in terms of SONET Volume Options (SVOs) asillustrated in the table below.

The inter-office network provides high capacity bandwidthranging from SVO (3) to SVO (48). The customer gains accessto this inter-office network via Master Access Connections(MAC) and Auxiliary Connections as described following.

(1) Master Access Connection (MAC)

The Master Access Connection (MAC) is always requiredin conjunction with the inter-office network and isconsidered the primary aggregation point of thecustomer's traffic to or from the network. The MACprovides transport capacity from the inter-officenetwork. This capacity is utilized via AuxiliaryConnections (as described following) which areassociated with that particular MAC.
