How do I fully integrate the many aspects of the English syllabus into a comprehensive study of English and how it works? Today, more than ever before, students need to be able to read, write and understand a wide variety of texts. To do this students have to:
• develop a range of comprehension strategies• improve their knowledge of grammar and punctuation• practise their speaking and listening skills • read and write a wide range of fiction and nonfiction
text types.
We developed Targeting English to meet this challenge. The 12 integrated units in each Targeting English Student Book provide a clear model for teaching and learning that builds strong skills in:
1 ReadingRead and explore a variety of texts on a topic using full-colour, real life extracts.
2 ComprehensionUse a variety of comprehension strategies to deepen student understanding of texts.
3 Speaking and ListeningReinforce clear speaking and attentive listening skills with integrated partner activities. The DVD in the Teaching Guide has media files for whole-class activities.
4 Visual Literacy Actively build visual literacy skills by focusing on pictures, diagrams and student drawings.
5 Text typesUnderstand that people read and write texts for different purposes and for different audiences.
6 WritingImprove writing skills with models, scaffolds and regular practice.
7 GrammarBuild grammar and usage skills in context, with activities
integrated into each unit.
8 AssessmentMakes test preparation an integrated part of the teaching process. Each book has six NAPLAN*-style multiple-choice tests.
The Teaching Guide has a range of other assessment activities provided as photocopy-masters.
* This is not an officially endorsed publication of the NAPLAN program and is produced by Pascal Press independently of Australian governments.

The Targeting English Teaching Guide includes a DVD, which contains media files (audio recordings, animations, video clips and still images) and Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files of all the work sheets.
The Targeting English Teaching Guide Each level of the series is supported by a Targeting English Teaching Guide, which provides a suite of resources for lesson planning, teaching and assessment.
Access teaching ideas, whole class activities, questions, BLMs and assessment pages to fully support your teaching program.
