In July 2014, Aarhus Letbane I/S awarded the contract for the implementation of its LRT project to the ASAL Consortium (Ansaldo
STS, GCF and Stadler). Stadler is delivering 24 trams in total: 12 low-floor Variobahn trams and 12 low-floor Tango tram trains. The
tram trains are to be used for city and suburban traffic in Aarhus and are designed for a running speed of up to 100 km/h. Their
design is based on the special requirements brought about by a combination of suburban transport and dense inner-city traffic in
the historic city centre. The modern, articulated vehicles have a modular design. The low floor throughout enables quick, safe and
easy exchange of passengers. The low-floor area makes up 100 per cent of the vehicle and is achieved thanks to the swivel bearing
being mounted lower and the drive being installed outside the bogie.
