About the Tanenbaums

John Tanenbaum, MBA ’90, JD ’90, and his wife, Amy, are longtime supporters of educational opportunities. “We believe in the possibilities of education, and a law degree is one of the best educational experiences a person can receive for a multitude of careers,” says Mr. Tanenbaum.

Mr. Tanenbaum is an attorney and managing partner of Castle Bay Management Services, a commercial real estate management firm based in Westchester County, New York. He has been involved with many non-profit organizations over the past 25 years, including the Jewish National Fund, the Jewish Community Center of Harrison, and the “I Have a Dream” Foundation. Mrs. Tanenbaum, who is also an attorney, serves on numerous committees at Rye Country Day School, Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester, and The Harrison Children’s Center.

The Tanenbaums are Eliot Society Patrons and members of the Washington University Loyalty Society. They live in Harrison, New York, with their four children: Daniel, Samuel, Hannah, and Rebecca. Daniel is a member of Washington University’s Arts & Sciences Class of 2020.

“We were very fortunate to receive great legal educations that have served us both well in life. We are happy to be able to help students have the same access to a quality education.”

Tanenbaum Family Eliot Society Challenge

John Tanenbaum, MBA ’90, JD ’90, and his wife, Amy, recently contributed $150,000 to Washington University School of Law in honor of the school’s 150th anniversary. As part of their generous gift, the couple established a $100,000 William Greenleaf Eliot Society Challenge to benefit law students. Through this challenge, the Tanenbaums hope to inspire alumni and friends to join the Eliot Society with a gift of $1,000 or more to the law school.

Nearly 90 percent of Washington University School of Law students require financial assistance, and Eliot Society memberships support both need-based and merit-based scholarships. These resources allow the School of Law to attract the brightest and most qualified students, regardless of their financial circumstances.

In addition, scholarship support from Eliot Society members helps make it possible for Washington University law students to graduate with less debt than the national average of $112,000. Heavy debt can make it difficult for law students to pursue their careers of choice, including careers in public service, and it may discourage talented students from applying for admission.

The Tanenbaum Family Eliot Society Challenge helps the most promising students pursue their legal education at Washington University School of Law.
