The history of Tallinn School of Music began in 1944 when the first music
classes for children were organized at Tallinn Conservatoire.
Since 1954 Tallinn School of Music has been operating as an independent
institution and since 1958 the school has been located at 28 Narva Road.
In 2004 the book about Tallinn School of Music 60 was published and the
first CD was recorded, in 2009 was recorded the second CD.
Mr. Valdo Rüütelmaa has been principal of the school from 2010 Mrs.
Maire Pedak is an assistant principal since 2005.
There have been 61 graduate classes, 1975 young musicians have received
diplomas over the years. Currently some 410 students study in Tallinn
School of Music, taught by 62 professional teachers. The school provides
an opportunity to learn all orchestral instruments. There are classes held
for classical guitar, zither, accordion, pop-jazz piano, also music theory
and history.
An important aspect in the school program is chamber music. There are
symphony orchestra, clarinet, string and brass band, zither, accordion and
guitar ensembles, piano music for four hands is also popular. Each year
there is a unique event in the school´s calendar - a student competition and
concert in composition and improvisation.
Every year the students of the school give numerous concerts in various
concert halls in Tallinn. The Symphony Orchestra and talented soloists
have performed in Finland, Sweden, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Poland,
Germany, Italy and France.
Thanks to all young musicians and their teachers
