If you are currently trying to lose weight, you are not alone. Millions of Americans today are on some
kind of diet or weight loss plan in hopes that they will
lose weight.
Why are so many Americans concerned about losing
weight? One of the main reasons is because obesity is
widespread and nearly rampant in America.
It is likely that you or someone close to you is, in fact,
obese. If you are not obese, odds are that you are
overweight.
Millions of Americans are obese, and one million more are overweight. Why do so many Americans have
problems with weight?
There are several factors that are affecting the amount of obese and overweight people in America.
First, we, as a culture, do not do very much walking.
Living Active Lives
We are either sitting at home, sitting at work, or sitting in our cars. Generally, we do not use public
transportation to travel places; because of this, we spend a lot of time in our cars.
Also generally, in our culture, exercise is looked
upon negatively. People dont like exercising and
they dont look forward to it.
People view exercising as something hard and not
fun that they must do if they want to lose weight.
They do not realize that losing weight requires a
lifestyle change and a modified perspective and
outlook on life.
The reason why people struggle to accept that a
lifestyle change is needed is because they are comfortable with the way they are currently living with.
Very few people are accepting of the idea that they need to change several big things about their life.
People especially dont like changing the things that love and are familiar with. For example, they do not
want to exercise more.
They are used to rarely exercising or not exercising at all, so they do not want to change from that
routine. Changing that routine would require work, effort, and pain, and people simply do not want to
do it.
Lifestyle Changes, Not Quick Fixes
This is a large reason why people are constantly searching for quick and easy ways to lose weight. Just
turn on your television on you will see myriad
advertisements for diet pills and weight loss
programs.
The key fact here is that people want to lose weight
without effort. Deep down, they know the way to
lose weight is to exercise and eat healthy.
But they do not want to make the life changes
necessary to do those things, so they are always on
the lookout for a way to lose weight without the
effort and pain of change. The sad thing is, when people go on these gimmicky weight loss plans, they
usually end up gaining the weight right back when they stop the diet plan.
These gimmicks have temporary results, but rarely yield any lasting weight loss. If you have tried to lose
weight and cant, perhaps weight loss surgery is for you.
