Welcome to the summer edition of Taking Stock… … although I use the word ‘summer’ very loosely! Whatever weather our changing climate brings, there are plenty of things going on within Equilibrium to bring sunny smiles to the office! Births, marriages, qualifications and personal physical challenges have provided us all with welcome distractions from the unpredictable elements. Here’s hoping Taking Stock will bring a little light relief to your day too as we share a few tit-bits about the goings on at Equilibrium. I hope you find this issue to be of interest and, as always, would welcome any feedback. If there’s anything you’d like us to feature or celebrate, please let Niall (niall@eqasset. co.uk) know. Wedding Bells!

Client Manager Paul Farrugia & his wife Catherine were married on 17th May at St. Andrew Church in Bebbington. The happy couple kicked off their marriage in style with their reception at the 1539 restaurant at Chester Race Course before jet setting off to Hawaii, with stops in Las Vegas and San Francisco!

After 8 years together, Financial Planner Andy Baker & his new wife Lucy tied the knot on 6th June. Along with family and friends, Andy & Lucy traded the comforts of home for the warmth of Santorini, Greece for a picturesque wedding on the Aegean.

Love is truly in the air at Equilibrium, after a spree of weddings and engagements during the last 12 months, we are also pleased to announce the engagement of Receptionist Emma Gibbons to her partner Carl.

We wish all our happy couples a great future together.

Where in the World is Equilibrium? The sight-seeing trips continue thanks to our generous and hard earned holiday package. The last few months have seen various members of Equilibrium travelling to:

Brussels, Portugal, Greece, Croatia, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Poland & Spain.

Baby Boom! The Equilibrium baby boom continues as Investment Analyst Graeme Black and his wife Victoria, became parents for the first time recently. Victoria gave birth to 8lbs 13 oz., Xander Sebastian Black at 10:47am on Thursday 23rd May 2013. We would like to congratulate the Black family on their new arrival.

Equilibrium Foundation

The Equilibrium Foundation is keen to support causes with which clients have a personal affiliation. None come more personal than Tansy Wilson’s fundraising effort for the Christie. Tansy Wilson, daughter of Equilibrium client, Peter Boulton, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in September 2011. After receiving treatment at the Christie, she was given the ‘all clear’ in December 2012. Tansy, who also lost her step-mother to breast cancer, has been fundraising for The Christie in her honour. Tansy completed the London Marathon in April, raising £2,736 which has been matched by Equilibrium making a fantastic £5,472 total! Congratulations Tansy!

On June 22, Client Manager Rob Ellis undertook the Trans Pennine Challenge, a gruelling 100km trek from Manchester to Sheffield with varied terrain which included 1040m of ascent. Rob, with the help of The Equilibrium Foundation has raised over £1,600 for Cancer Research UK.

The two youngest athletes in the Equilibrium Family have completed the 5K Race for Life circuit. Seven year old Eve & six year old Lily, daughters of Equilibrium Client Manager & serial triathlete Lucas Jones, ran in aid of Cancer Research UK with the support of The Equilibrium Foundation.

On top of all those great efforts, Team Equilibrium will be raising money for The Foundation in the “We Love Manchester 10k Run”. The race will start at the Regional Athletics Arena, passing by the Etihad Stadium (formerly the City of Manchester Stadium) before finishing back at the Arena. After the successes of Rob, Matt (fastest time of 46 mins), Graeme, Mike and Toby in 2012, Team EQ has swelled to 12 racers taking up the challenge in 2013.

Remember that The Equilibrium Foundation is keen to support causes nominated by clients and our colleagues. So, if you have a charity close to your heart, please get in touch!

60 seconds with... Nigel Grayson-Thorne!Experience to date at Equilibrium… Using the accounts software is a second language to me, but the forecasting software has been a very enjoyable challenge. Working with Anne has been the biggest challenge of all!

What have you most enjoyed about Equilibrium so far? It has been fascinating seeing how the business works, the professionalism of everyone here and the high value everyone holds for the business, it’s a very positive and proactive atmosphere.

Tell us a bit about your background: I have worked in several business sectors including practice, retail and more recently manufacturing where I dealt with imports and exports via documentary credits and foreign currency exchange. Outside of work I try to play the guitar and the drums but not at the same time!

What would you be if you weren’t a Management Accountant? I’d like to work at JPL on a space aeronautic/engineering project and play a part in pushing the boundaries of human exploration. Weird or what!

And finally, tell us something we don’t know about you! I was the bass player in an indie rock band that won the Greater Manchester Band of the Year competition.
