Bidding on District-Wide Contracts
How are contract opportunities disseminated?
– Public Announcements: newspapers, websites, approved vendor lists
– General public vs. pre-selected/qualified vendors

Types of information solicited by school districts:
– RFP = Request for Proposal
– RFQ = Request for Quote
– RFI = Request for Information
– Bid

Internal EDC Procedures
– If you are the EC with the district listing, forward all information on this opportunity to Randall and Todd.
– If you are not the EC with the district listing, contact the EC who is.
– If no one has the district listed, discuss with Todd.

Compliance with contract
– All EC’s serving that district – whether on the district or individual school level – MUST comply with all terms of the contract, or they (and EDC) will be shut out of doing business in that district.
– The EC listing the district is responsible for training all EC’s serving the individual schools in the particulars of that contract.

ILLINOIS STATE LEARNING STANDARDS
There are 29 State Goals covering Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Fine Arts, Physical Development and Health.
Each Goal has 2-6 Learning Standards.
Each Learning Standard has 1-6 Benchmarks per grade level.

Science – State Goal 12:
Understand the fundamental concepts, principles and interconnections of the life, physical and earth/space sciences. As a result of their schooling, students will be able to:
Learning Standard A:
Know and apply concepts that explain how living things function, adapt and change.

Early Elementary:
• 12.A.1a - Identify and describe the component parts of living things and their major functions.
• 12.A.1b - Categorize living organisms using a variety of observable features.
Late Elementary:
• 12.A.2a – Describe simple life cycles of plants and animals and the similarities and differences in their offspring
• 12.A.2b – Categorize features as either inherited or learned.

• 12.A.3a – Explain how cells function as “building blocks” of organisms and describe the requirements for cells to live.

• 12.A.3c – Compare and contrast how different forms and structures reflect different functions.

Early High School
• 12.A.4a – Explain how genetic combinations produce visible effects and variations among physical features and cellular functions of organisms.
• 12.A.4b – Describe the structures and organization of cells and tissues that underlie basic life functions including nutrition, respiration, cellular transport, biosynthesis and reproduction.
• 12.A.4c – Describe processes by which organisms change over time using evidence from comparative anatomy and physiology, embryology, the fossil record, genetics and biochemistry.

Responsibilities of EC’s listing a district“Listing a school district or library system entitles an
EC to district level sales. It creates a responsibility for the EC to mentor other EC’s including those not in the same group who have listed individual schools and libraries within the district.” EC Manual, Page 11
EDC listings policy“…If they are interested in Usborne books for their
school or library and their school or library is already listed by another EC, you must contact the other EC who holds the listing by phone or email.” EC Manual, Page 12
