The Monroe Township Community Education program has offered classes, lectures, experiences, and opportunities as unique as the communities we serve!

Now in our 28th year we are piloting an expansion of our offerings to students under the age of 18. We’re proud of our history, and we’re proud that we continue to deliver excellence in Education as we celebrate the 2011-2012 season.

The program offers diverse educational and leisure time activities that meet the needs of every member of our community.

We have designed our program to include areas such as computers, languages, personal growth, cooking, dance, sports & fitness and the arts.

Develop poise, grace, coordination and self-assurance while having FUN learning the basics of Foxtrot, Rhumba, Cha Cha and Swing. Proper leading, following, footwork techniques are stressed. Learn the steps and etiquette of formal dance to make your evening truly memorable. Partners are preferred, but not required. Please wear low-heeled shoes that give you proper support. No sneakers, rubber soled or open shoes.

Or maybe you’ve been dancing but want to learn more. This is the class for you. Come join Harry Westervelt & Gail Young-Leach, The Silver Spurs, to learn the hot new dances and classic dances that will get you on the dance floor no matter where you go to dance. Line dancing is probably the most socially rewarding experience you can have. It’s about lots of likeminded people getting together having fun and learning new dances. Please wear leather soled shoes (no sneakers please). Bring a bottle of water, be ready to make new friends, and have lots of fun. Class materials included. Whether you are an experienced Pastel artist or somebody who is completely new to the joy of producing art with pastels you’ll find this very talented instructor, Solomon Kadoche, interesting with lots of useful information and advice on how to be a successful pastel artist. Mr. Kadoche was born in Casablanca, Morocco and has dedicated his life to perfecting his craft and producing quality work. Bob Renz will teach beginners to use basic hand building techniques to create one-of-a-kind projects. More advanced students will develop skills at the potter’s wheel and glazing. Learn the proper way to name and save filed, photos or graphics, move them to folders and organize them for easy retrieval. CULINARY ARTSJoin culinary adventurer, Chef Kathy Rana, who’s traveled throughout the U.S., South America, Europe and Asia, learning the varied techniques of regional and ethnic cuisines from master cooks and chefs, for some exciting classes. She is a graduate of the Culinary Business Academy and a member of the United States Personal Chef Association. In the following two classes, she will provide great tips and recipes. Bring containers with tight fitting lids to take home what you don’t devour in class.

Join us as we explore how seasoning can transform a plain dish a variety of ways just through the use of difference herbs and spices. From Italian Basil and Parsley to Thai Basil and Cumin we will take, simple dishes to the next level. We will also discuss how to group your own herbs at home. THAI COOKING OFFSITE0402 4 T: 4/3, 17, 5/1, 15 6:30-9:00 p.m. $48Spice up a few spring evenings in this hands-on Dinner Party class with Chef Phensri Francis, a native of North East Thailand, a region famous for authentic Thai cooking. She will conduct classes at her home in Old Bridge (see directions and map on page 12). Students will learn the fundamentals of cooking Thai dishes and will be able to cook and present a wide array of the most popular dishes: exotic appetizers, entrees, soups and desserts. Highlights will include sources & uses of Thai herbs, spices, and ingredients along with cooking techniques for Shrimp Pad Thai, Chicken Basil, Chicken Masaman Curry, Ginger Beef, Thai Shrimp Fried Rich, Chicken Panang Curry, Shrimp Drunken Noodles, Chicken Satay, Thai Salad with Peanut Sauce, Chicken Tom Yum Soup, stick Rice with Mango, and Chicken with Cashew Nut. Silvestri, CFR(R), CHFC, CASL, CLTC Frank Gordon, Financial Planner; Antoinette Gega, CASL Financial Advisor, MST of Creative Financial Group of New Jersey introduces the key concepts and practices of wide money management. Students will learn ways to minimize taxes, maximize investment returns, and estate planning for the future. The Seminar will teach students about different types of investments, how each one works, and which are appropriate for individual financial situations. Areas of discussion will include inflation’s impact on savings, how compound interest works, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, students own personalized financial plan suited to their assets and objectives. Enrollment – You can register by mail as soon as you view this brochure. Feel free to share brochure using our website at www.monroe.k12.nj.us and click onto the information tab and go into Community Education. Mail-in registration continues until the beginning of each class, but don’t leave it until the last minute. YOUR registra-tion could make the difference between having enough student enrollment to run the class or canceling due to insufficient registration. You can assume that you are in the class of your choice unless you hear from us. Registra-tion will not be acknowledged unless the class is cancelled.

REGISTRATION WALK-INS AT THE BOARD OF EDUCATION ARE STRONGLY DISCOURAGED.

Eligibility – All adults and students under 18 years of age where class denotes, regardless of residence are welcome in the Community Education Program.

Discounts – A five dollar ($5.00) senior discount is offered to those 60 years and older, as well as any employee of the Monroe Township Board of Education. Please note: there are no discounts on any $8 course.

Materials Fees –Must be paid to the instructor on the first night of class. Cash is preferred.

Returned Checks – A $40 fee will be imposed for checks returned unpaid by the bank.

Refund and withdrawal – We will refund course fee if we cancel a class. All withdrawals within one week (7 days) prior to the class start will receive a refund minus a $8 processing fee. No refunds or credits will be granted when you withdraw from a one night class with a $8 fee.
