The Monroe Township Community Education program has offered classes, lectures, experiences, and opportunities as unique as the communities we serve!

Now in our 28th year we are piloting an expansion of our offerings to students under the age of 18. We’re proud of our history, and we’re proud that we continue to deliver excellence in Education as we celebrate the 2011-2012 season.

The program offers diverse educational and leisure time activities that meet the needs of every member of our community.

We have designed our program to include areas such as computers, languages, personal growth, cooking, dance, sports & fitness and the arts.

Develop poise, grace, coordination and self-assurance while having FUN learning the basics of Foxtrot, Rhumba, Cha Cha and Swing. Proper leading, following, footwork techniques are stressed. Learn the steps and etiquette of formal dance to make your evening truly memorable. Partners are preferred, but not required. Please wear low-heeled shoes that give you proper support. No sneakers, rubber soled or open shoes.

COUNTRY LINE DANCING OFF SITE0101 8 W: 3/14-5/9 7:30-9:00 p.m. $89 Have you ever seen Country Line Dancing and wondered what it is? Or seen it and just wished you could do it? Or maybe you’ve been dancing but want to learn more. This is the class for you. Come join Harry Westervelt & Gail Young-Leach, The Silver Spurs, to learn the hot new dances and classic dances that will get you on the dance floor no matter where you go to dance. Line dancing is probably the most socially rewarding experience you can have. It’s about lots of likeminded people getting together having fun and learning new dances. Please wear leather soled shoes (no sneakers please). Bring a bottle of water, be ready to make new friends, and have lots of fun. Class materials included. Classes will be held at Oak Tree Elementary School.

Tap dancing is a weight bearing exercise which helps prevent Osteoporosis. It increases flexibility, balance and stamina making it a good cardio-vascular workout too. Whether you are an experienced Pastel artist or somebody who is completely new to the joy of producing art with pastels you’ll find this very talented instructor, Solomon Kadoche, interesting with lots of useful information and advice on how to be a successful pastel artist. Mr. Kadoche was born in Casablanca, Morocco and has dedicated his life to perfecting his craft and producing quality work. Bob Renz will teach beginners to use basic hand building techniques to create one-of-a-kind projects. More advanced students will develop skills at the potter’s wheel and glazing. There will be a slight emphasis on Raku firing, with two outdoor fires scheduled. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere that accompanies the experience of working with clay. It is a portable personality test that reveals personal characteristics and can be helpful in self-revelation to those who are looking for ways to understand themselves better. As a classic jazz age figure of triumph and tragedy, Porter created most of his best songs for Broadway and Hollywood and his legacy continues to occupy a place in every serious singer’s repertoire.

JEROME KERN 0115 1 T: 5/1 6:00-7:15 p.m. $8 Considered the father of the American musical for two reasons he gave a revolutionary new sound and legitimacy to American theatre music with his series of Princess Theatre musicals (1915-1918), as well as writing Show Boat. COMMUNITY EDUCATION REGISTRATION INFORMATIONSpring Calendar - Tuesday classes will begin on March 13, 2012 and Thursday classes begin on March 15, 2012.

Registration Questions – Please call 732-521-2111 ext. 5248 between 9:00 a.m and 1:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

Enrollment – You can register by mail as soon as you view this brochure. Feel free to share brochure using our website at www.monroe.k12.nj.us and click onto the information tab and go into Community Education. Mail-in registration continues until the beginning of each class, but don’t leave it until the last minute. YOUR registra-tion could make the difference between having enough student enrollment to run the class or canceling due to insufficient registration. You can assume that you are in the class of your choice unless you hear from us. Registra-tion will not be acknowledged unless the class is cancelled.

REGISTRATION WALK-INS AT THE BOARD OF EDUCATION ARE STRONGLY DISCOURAGED.

Eligibility – All adults and students under 18 years of age where class denotes, regardless of residence are welcome in the Community Education Program.

Discounts – A five dollar ($5.00) senior discount is offered to those 60 years and older, as well as any employee of the Monroe Township Board of Education. Please note: there are no discounts on any $8 course.

Materials Fees –Must be paid to the instructor on the first night of class. Cash is preferred.

Returned Checks – A $40 fee will be imposed for checks returned unpaid by the bank.

Refund and withdrawal – We will refund course fee if we cancel a class. All withdrawals within one week (7 days) prior to the class start will receive a refund minus a $8 processing fee. No refunds or credits will be granted when you withdraw from a one night class with a $8 fee.

Sites and Room Assignments – Most classes are at the New Monroe Township High School on 200 School-house Road unless otherwise noted in the course description. Room assignments will be posted at receptionist desk.

Changes – This program reserves the right to cancel courses, change times, locations and instructors.

Emergency Closings – If schools have been closed during the day community education classes will also be cancelled. If inclement weather conditions become severe late in the day listen to WCTC (1450 AM) between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m.
