Tailings Facility Factsheet 7 June 2019

Overview questions

1) Provide an overview of your tailings management system, and how you manage risk

We take responsible management of tailings very seriously and, as members of the Mining Association of Canada,

implement the Towards Sustainable Mining Tailings Management Protocol and guidelines at our sites. For further

2) Confirm whether your approach to tailings management has changed or will change in light of the recent

tailings disasters at Brumadinho, Mariana, Mt Polley and others. Have you, for example, reviewed all

tailings storage facilities with upstream dam construction, and taken steps necessary to protect local

communities and the environment e.g. buttressing, evacuation?

We had an internal review process and risk evaluation matrix for tailings in place prior to the Mount Polley event.

We commenced Independent Dam Safety Reviews in 2014 at our sites in order of priority based on risk and are

completing the final site now (June/July 2019). Newly acquired Tahoe operations with tailings either had

independent review processes (Bell Creek) or employ dry stack tailings currently on care and maintenance (Escobal).

Independent reviews will be undertaken on those sites in 2020. We joined MAC in 2016 and commenced

implementing TSM in 2017.
