Types of our Biome
Coniferous forest, Taiga, and the boreal forest.
Most of these names are just saying Taiga so there aren’t different locations or facts!
Climate
The Taiga Biome only has two seasons. Summer and Winter.
In the Summer, Taiga is warm and all of the snow from the winter melts.
In the Winter, Taiga is VERY cold. It snows about six months of the year and is under 30 degrees for half of the year.
Climate
The average range in temperature is below freezing for 6 months of the year.
The average rainfall is 25 to 75 centimeters per year! The Taiga biome has the 3rd greatest percentage of rainfall, other than any other biome.
Producers
Trees and moss or plants are the producers in the Taiga biome.
Only 8 species of trees or plants exist in the Taiga biome.
Some examples are Club Moss, Sphagnum Moss, Twin Leaf, Bracken Fern, Shin Leaf, Blueberry Bushes, and Crowberry Bushes!!
Second level consumers!
Some second level consumers are Lynx, Wolves, Coyotes, Bears, Snakes, and Porcupines!
1st: Voles 2nd: Snakes 3rd: Coyotes
Biome destruction
Many people in the Taiga have to hunt to live. And obviously, if you live in a place where that is what you have to do, then go ahead. But people are poaching animals. (Animals being hunted, not for survival, just for there rare furs).
Conservation
Many people in Taiga are putting a limit on hunting endangered species like, Beavers. They are very endangered right now. You may not know but…Forest fires and snow storms help! They destroy plants so that in the new year, they can make new plants!
