BIRTHDAY GREETINGS

TAFISA ON THE MOVE

It is a great privilege to address the participants of the Global Sport for All Movement as the President of the leading international Sport for All association on this exciting occasion, the 20th Anniversary of the formal inception of TAFISA.

Whilst TAFISA was born in the minds of Sport for All leaders in the 1960’s, it was only in 1991 that it really came to life. In that time, TAFISA has touched the lives of millions; from families who march under the banner of World Walking Day, to performers in the World Sport for All Games, to future leaders educated via the Certified Leadership Courses, to volunteers coordinating World Challenge Day, to governmental and non-governmental representatives attending World Congresses,

to Sport for All organizations and individuals of all types who are the members of TAFISA, to a myriad of others, and to you, who is reading this brochure.

TAFISA has and will continue to stand for all of the participants of the Global Sport for All Movement, both politically and practically by providing the Movement with an internationally visible voice, and programs and events in which to participate and share.

On this important occasion, I am proud to wish TAFISA, along with its members, supporters and partners who have been such an integral part of the growth and success of TAFISA, a warm and sincere “congratulations”.

Dr Kang-Too Lee, TAFISA President

It was in Oslo in 1969, when the first so called ‘Trim and Fitness Conference’ was held with eight participating countries from West Europe. These conferences that were organized every two years from then on, developed into an unofficial steering medium for the international Sport for All Movement, and can be rightly considered the cradle for TAFISA. As the result, TAFISA was founded in Bordeaux in 1991 by 40 countries.

TAFISA has worked hard to become the leading international Sport for All association over the past 20 years. But there is so much more to be done. Being a leader implies responsibility, innovation, strength and continuous improvement, and TAFISA intends to embrace and enhance its position in the global Sport for All Movement, for the betterment of TAFISA, its members and the Movement itself.

TAFISA’s action plan for the future incorporates both politics and practice. Particularly in recent years, TAFISA has led an initiative to bring leading international organizations together to build a new solidarity in Sport for All. In the coming years, TAFISA will build on this strong start to raise the

profile of Sport for All and physical activity, and place it on the agenda of leading organizations and leading individuals around the world. TAFISA’s focus will be on creating a truly global platform for international exchange, debate and cooperation, and strengthen the political voice of Sport for All and physical activity, so that ultimately, through cross-sectoral cooperation, Sport for All and physical activity will be accessible to all.

TAFISA also recognizes that its members immediately benefit from the practical, on-the-ground programs that people around the world can participate in and enjoy. That is why TAFISA will not lose its focus on providing Sport for All and physical activity programs which are relevant and in demand. TAFISA will continue to improve upon its already successful practical programs, and work with its members to make them accessible to as many global citizens as possible.

Through this dual strategy of political and practical influence, TAFISA is steadily building bridges toward its ultimate goal. TAFISA – For An Active World.
