HANDY INDUCTION CHECKLIST FOR WORKPLACE SUPERVISORS:

• Introduce the apprentice/trainee to the team and provide a workplace tour

• Outline your expectations of the apprentice/trainee and provide a job description

• Explain the business structure

• Explain Occupational Health and Safety, and emergency procedures

• Discuss the line of authority and who the apprentice/trainee will report to

• Outline company policies and procedures

• Explain how performance appraisals will be carried out

• Ensure the apprentice/trainee has opportunities to experience a broad range of skills that meet the agreed training plan requirements.

LOOKING AFTER YOUR APPRENTICE/TRAINEE

Your apprentice/trainee may initially have very little experience in the workplace. As such, it can be useful to spend some time helping them settle into the business. Apprentices/trainees should spend their first days observing Occupational Health and Safety procedures and should be encouraged to ask questions.

Constant supervision in the first 100 days while the apprentice/trainee is learning new tasks is imperative, not just for legislative compliance, but also to ensure you have met your duty of care requirements.
