About the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Brief history

• In 1945 , Krakow had only one higher education institution with a Department of General Electrical Engineering: the AGH University of Science and Technology.

• In 1953 , this Department was moved to the Cracow University of Technology (CUT).

• In 1974, the Department grew to Electrical Engineering and Electronics Institute (IEiE). Upon the commencement of its activities, the institute comprised of two divisions: Industrial Electrical Engineering Division and Industrial Control Engineering Division.

• In 1975, CUT established its Faculty of Transport and incorporated into its structure the IEiE. In that same year, the University began offering programmes in electrical engineering.

• In 1988, the Faculty of Transport was transformed into the Faculty of Transport and Electrical Engineering, currently named the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Recent milestones

• In 1998, the Faculty was granted authority to award PhD degrees in electrical engineering.

• In 2002, the Faculty began participating in an inter-departmental computer science programme offering the opportunity to pursue an ICT systems specialisation.

• In 2004, the Faculty began participating in an inter-departmental power engineering programme offering the opportunity to pursue an electrical power engineering specialisation.
