Background of the project
• Long history of supporting ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) development
• Capacity building is a key to success, but resource required Japan contributes to AMIS by utilizing
AFSIS network and experiences
Key Points • Project Purpose: Capacity Building • Implementation: AMIS Secretariat (trust fund) • Duration: 3 years • 120 million Japanese yen (tentative) • Starting Oct 2012 • Target : Rice • Pilot implementation in two countries : Thailand and the Philippines • Dissemination of the pilot results: ASEAN states • Utilizing AFSIS network (AFSIS: ASEAN Food Security Information System)

1. Development of Regional Database (DB) • Introduce unified definition from FAO for international comparison • Develop DB for major 5 crops as Rice, Maize, Soybean, Sugarcane, Cassava • Updating every year
2. Publication of Early Warning Information (EWI) and Agricultural Commodity Outlook (ACO)
• EWI : Forecast production and damage ( Mar. & Sep.) • ACO : Forecast supply and demand (Jun. & Dec.) • Publicized both reports for 5 major crops biannually
3. Human Resource Development (HRD)
• Regional Training Courses (in Japan, Thailand, etc.) • Mutual Technical Cooperation • •
