TABLE ROCK LAKE Branson’s largest body of water, Table Rock Lake, boasts over 800 miles of shoreline, much of which is covered in lush trees and boasts plentiful wildlife. A man-made body of water, this lake was created when the Table Rock Dam, completed in 1959, captured the White River. The warm, spacious waters make it the perfect place for boating, water sports, swimming and fishing. In fact, it is renowned among anglers for the large bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish that call the lake home, and the area’s many coves are prime fishing territory. These coves are also the perfect place for a relaxing afternoon spent on a dock or dropping anchor and kicking back on a boat. The shores of Table Rock Lake are home to some of the area’s most beloved attractions. Swimmers and sunbathers will love Moonshine Beach; a spacious, sandy bit of shoreline that feels just like a tropical getaway. Cape Fair, with its wide open waters, is another popular spot for a swim. Visitors looking for a break from the water can enjoy Table Rock State Park, which provides gorgeous views of the lake along with hiking trails and picnic areas. There are also many caves adjacent to the lake that visitors can explore, such as Talking Rocks Cavern.

LAKE TANEYCOMO Lake Taneycomo is Branson’s smallest lake and has just 40 miles of shoreline, but is considered by many to be the most beautiful. It shares some of this shoreline with the Branson Landing, which incorporates a boardwalk adjacent to the various shops, restaurants and attractions. During the warmer months, visitors can enjoy the Landing’s fountain show reflecting off Taneycomo’s waters, featuring exhilarating plumes of fire and synchronized jets of water. This is also the perfect place to rent a kayak or sign up for a sightseeing tour of the lake. Another man-made body of water, Lake Taneycomo (short for Taney County Missouri) was created in 1913, when the Power Site Dam captured the White River. For years Taneycomo was classified as a warm water lake, but 1959 saw the comple-tion of the Table Rock Dam, just 22 miles upstream. The waters flowing from this new dam were much colder in temperature, and, luckily for fishermen, this created the perfect environment for a cold water fishery. Now Lake Taneycomo is home to some of the world’s best trout fishing, and three quarters of a million rainbow trout and brown trout are stocked each year. In fact, many state fishing records have been set in the cold, clear waters of Taneycomo. Visitors can also see the trout up close and learn about their life cycle at the Shepherd of the Hills Trout Hatchery, located at the foot of the dam.

BULL SHOALS LAKE Bull Shoals Lake might not be as popular as Table Rock Lake or Lake Taneycomo, but with 700 miles of shoreline it’s the perfect destination for those that want a quieter get away. Created in 1951 when the Bull Shoals Dam was completed, it is also a byproduct of the White River. Because of the dam’s location on the river, the lake levels fluctuate regularly, meaning the shoreline is widely undeveloped. This allows for some of the most beautiful natural sites, with stunning bluffs and rock ledges intermingling with lush trees. A popular spot for fishing, Bull Shoals Lake is famous for its large mouth bass and spotted bass populations. In fact, many state records have been set on its waters. It’s also home to crappie and catfish, and unlike Table Rock and Taneycomo, walleye can be found in abundance. Boating, jet skiing, and kayaking are popular pastimes here, as well as tubing, wake-boarding, and water skiing. At Bull Shoals visitors can enjoy all the same activities on calmer, less populated waters.

Branson Weather By the Season- What to Expect & What to Pack

A common phrase here in the Ozarks is, “Don’t like the weather? Just wait five minutes.” Although sometimes finicky, the weather here in Branson tends to stay mild in general. The summers are warm enough for a ride down a water slide, or a swim in Table Rock Lake, but not sweltering. The winters are cold enough for a blanket of snow, but not bitter. Positioned right in the heart of America, you’ll find the best aspects of each season, making Branson an ideal destination all year long. What can you expect when you travel to Branson? Read on for insider tips on what Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter are like here in the Ozarks. For more information you can also give us a call at (800) 208-8164 to talk to a local, and have all your questions answered quickly and conveniently.Spring (March – May) Branson is the live music capital of the world, but many theatres take a hiatus in the off season (January and February). That’s what makes March so exciting! The shows start the season fresh and reinvigorated, and the performers tend to be at the top of their game. All the longtime favorites do their best to come back bigger and better, and you can be the first to check out the newest shows in town. If you’re a fan of the great outdoors, you will love seeing the Ozarks in full bloom! Along with the brilliant wildflowers, you’ll find the most beautiful trees. Scattered all over the Ozark hills are the flowering dogwood and hawthorn, brilliant pink red bud, white-flowered serviceberry, and striking red buckeye. It’s a great time to get out and explore the natural wonders that Branson has to offer. And the best part is that many of them are free! If you’re looking for a slower paced getaway, spring is the perfect time to avoid the larger crowds that travel to Branson in the summer. It’s also a great opportunity to save on your accommodations! Many hotels in the area have dis-counted rates during the off-season and into the spring. So if relaxation is priority number one, you’ll love Branson in the springtime.Summer (June – August) Summer is an excellent time for families to visit the Ozarks! As school wraps up for the year, the city bustles with child friendly entertainment and family oriented activities. Kids and adults alike will enjoy Branson’s many attractions, like Branson’s Wildworld and the National Tiger Sanctuary. Prefer to avoid the family crowds? Perfect your swing and play a round at Branson Hills golf course. A popular summer destination is Silver Dollar City, the 1880’s themed amusement park here in Branson. With invigorating roller coasters, incredible live performances, expert craftsmen selling their wares, and delicious food at every corner, it’s a popular attraction that brings tourists from all over the country. Two of Silver Dollar City’s most popular festivals, Star-Spangled Summer and Moonlight Madness, take place in June, July, and August. If you’re in the mood to make a splash, there’s also the tropical themed water park, White Water. Both parks tend to be especially crowded in the summer, but are a fun way to spend the day while visiting the Ozarks. Want to escape the summer sun? Consider going subterranean! The Ozarks are famous for the large cave system that’s waiting just below the surface. Some

tours even offer the option to ride in a tram, so it is a perfect attraction for all ages. With temperatures inside the caves staying steady between 55°F and 58°F, spelunking is a fun way to escape the heat and explore Missouri’s natural beauty.Fall (September – November) Nothing is quite as beautiful as fall in the Ozarks. As the temperatures begin to drop, the leaves begin to change, covering the Ozark mountains with stunning hues of yellow, orange and red. It’s a great time to get out and explore all the natural wonders that Branson has to offer. Branson as a whole has a deep respect for the sacrifices made by men and women in the armed forces, and their families. There are many businesses that offer veteran discounts all year, but every fall the city unites in a celebratory display of patriotism. Veteran’s Week takes place November 5 – 11, culminat-ing in the Annual Branson Veterans Day Parade. Many shows invite veterans to attend their performances for free, and there are reunions and memorial cere-monies all week. It’s America’s largest celebration of veterans, and Branson is honored to host it. Fall is also the perfect time to experience a Branson tradition. In 1907, Harold Bell Wright published a book written right here in the Ozark mountains called the Shepherd of the Hills. It tells a timeless story of love, revenge, tragedy, and forgiveness, and features depictions of the real people Bell met during his time here. Every year since 1960, at the same homestead featured in his novel, there is a dramatized production of Bell’s story, and it has become an institution here in Branson. This outdoor drama features over eighty actors, forty horses, and the actual burning of a cabin each performance. While you’re in town make sure you catch the show, and treat yourself to the historic homestead tour.Winter (December – February) Branson is one of the most festive places in America each holiday sea-son. Starting in November each year the entire city cloaks itself in twinkling lights, bedecked Christmas trees, and plenty of opportunities to encounter Old St. Nick himself. Dreaming of a white Christmas? Although the weather typically stays mild each November and December, you might even experience a dusting of snow while you’re in town! And make sure to treat yourself to the many holiday activities we have here in the Ozarks, like the dazzling Christmas light displays all over town. The theatres here in Branson absolutely shine with Christmas spirit! As soon as the calendars flip to November, each show pulls out all the stops, and their performances simply radiate with holiday cheer. After all, Branson is the live music capital of the world. With live performances showcasing incredible vo-cals, dazzling dances, and side-splitting comedy, there is a little bit of something to make everyone’s holiday merry and bright! January and February are considered the off-season here in Branson. This is great news for travelers that want a relaxing getaway, and would prefer to avoid the crowds that come to the Ozarks in the warmer months. It’s also a great opportunity to save on your accommodations! Many hotels in the area have discounted rates during the off-season. But do note that some of the shows and attractions take a hiatus in January and February.
