Overview

CA ARCserve D2D CA ARCserve D2D is a disk-based recovery solution that simplifies protecting and

recovering your business data on both physical and virtual servers. To quickly recover entire systems, it

provides hardware-independent bare-metal restore and it’s block-level, infinite, incremental snapshot

technology helps you reduce storage requirements and costs. You get central management and

reporting, host-based, agentless backup for VMware, VM-level backup for Hyper-V, XenServer and KVM,

and Virtual Standby that automatically converts image backups to bootable VMs to help speed system

recovery and reduce risk of business downtime. Plus, you get automated file copy and archive to

Amazon Web Services, Windows Azure and other public clouds. CA ARCserve D2D r16.5 now supports

Windows Server 2012 and delivers even more value. It can be used to protect NTFS deduplicated and

Resilient File System (ReFS) volumes, storage spaces and Hyper-V 3.0 virtual machines. And now Virtual

Standby can be performed to a remote site when also using CA ARCserve® Replication.

The solution consists of CA ARCserve D2D stand-alone and the following 4 Central Applications:

CA ARCSERVE® CENTRAL PROTECTION MANAGER Provides a single web-based console for a centralized

view and management of all servers and workstations protected by CA ARCserve D2D. It includes

automated Active Directory discovery, remote deployment, simplified policy-based administration,

Storage Resource Manager (SRM) reporting, status, grouping, search and restore, basic workflow, event

logging and more to help simplify management and recovery of servers and workstations across the

user’s environment.

CA ARCSERVE® CENTRAL REPORTING Provides a centralized view, administration and reporting on

all devices, settings and policies running on-premise and off-premise that are protected by CA

ARCserve® Backup and CA ARCserve D2D. It gives detailed reports, as well as a rollup Dashboard

report view, so users can easily understand what is happening across their environment.

CA ARCSERVE® CENTRAL HOST-BASED VM BACKUP Integrates with CA ARCserve D2D to protect a

VMware host environment, performing backup of all VMs via a single-pass backup without having to

install CA ARCserve D2D inside each VM. It uses the VMware vSphere Changed Block Tracking (CBT)

feature to capture the changes since the last backup and enables granular recovery of files and

folders from each individual VM. It can also restore supported applications running within a VM,

simplifying protection and recovery of virtual servers.

CA ARCSERVE® CENTRAL VIRTUAL STANDBY Makes CA ARCserve D2D backups available to run like

regular VMware Virtual Machine Disk (VMDK) or Microsoft Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) virtual servers.

It automatically pre-registers each recovery point (including incrementals) with the hypervisor for

immediate recovery as a VM either on the local or WAN connected remote site. VMs can be

powered on manually or automatically. In addition, it enables physical-to-virtual (P2V) and virtual-


to-virtual (V2V) migration. Copies of VMs can be used for pre-flight deployment, software

installations and upgrade testing when desired.

What’s new in r16.5? Now you can protect Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 workstation environments as part of your image-based backup and disaster recovery goals.

Take full advantage of enhanced data integrity, availability, and scalability offered by Windows Resilient File System (ReFS) and achieve comprehensive data protection.

Virtualize with Hyper-V v3.0 and feel confident that your data is protected. Protect the cost-savings benefits you achieved by virtualizing in the first place with a single solution for both physical and virtual servers. And you can run at the hypervisor level for single-pass backup of all Hyper-V VMs.

Protect NTFS deduplicated primary volumes using either optimized or non-optimized backup methods and still achieve granular file-level recovery.

Take advantage of more flexible and resilient storage virtualization capabilities with Windows Storage Spaces knowing your data is protected.

Application-consistent backup and restore of Exchange 2013 databases.

Gain more flexibility when restoring data with uEFI-BIOS interchange. Go from uEFI to BIOS and vice-versa. This is especially useful when performing Bare Metal Recovery (BMR) as you don't need to have the same type of hardware which may mean faster and less expensive recovery.

Shorten backup time with catalog-less backup. For faster search and recovery, users can run ad-hoc catalog creation jobs at any time.

CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager and CA ARCserve Central Reporting can be used to deploy, manage and report on CA ARCserve D2D in Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 environments.

CA ARCserve Central Host Based VM Backup (VMware VMs Only) includes all the same Windows Server 2012 support listed above for CA ARCserve D2D.

CA ARCserve Central Virtual Standby now supports “remote standby” across a Wide Area Network through integration with CA ARCserve® Replication. Customers and Partners like MSPs can now replicate CA ARCserve D2D recovery points to a remote site and then automatically convert the recovery points to VM format and quickly stand them up after a production server failure for fast system recovery. This application also now supports failover of Hyper-V v3.0

Use Case:

Problem: User needs to protect 2 VMware ESX servers and doesn’t need to protect the proxy servers, how many

licenses does the user need?

Solution: 2 – one per VMware ESX server. User doesn’t need licenses for the proxy unless it is protecting the proxy

server itself.

Note: Licenses are not transferrable to multiple host servers

Solution: User will need 1 CA ARCserve Central Virtual Standby r16.5 per Host License and 3 CA ARCserve Central

Virtual Standby r16 per Instance licenses. There is no need to license the monitor unless the monitor itself needs to

be protected.

2. Case of Remote Virtual Standby - New!!

Problem: User needs to protect 4 physical servers + all VMs on a VMware ESX hypervisor, how many licenses does

the user need? = servers being protected

Solution: User will need 1 CA ARCserve Central Virtual Standby r16.5 per Host License and 4 CA ARCserve Central

Virtual Standby r16.5 per Instance licenses. There is no need to license the monitor unless the proxy or the

converter server unless they themselves need to be protected. User will need to license 2 copies of CA ARCserve

Replication r16.5 for either physical servers (based on Windows OS Edition) or Virtual Servers depending on

whether the server hosting CA ARCserve Replication is a physical or virtual machine.

Socket Based Licensing

The Socket-Based Licensing editions were introduced to provide a way to easily license virtualized

environments. Both editions include technologies from across the CA ARCserve r16.5 product-line to

enable leveraging cross-functional capabilities such as remote virtual standby and archival of disk images

to tape for long term retention. They are available in the following two editions –

Includes everything listed for the CA ARCserve r16.5 RPO per-socket license above in

addition to the following capabilities –

- Application level off-site WAN Optimized Replication

- Automated instant failover and failback

- Full System High Availability

Per-Socket Pricing definition:

‘Per Socket’ is defined as the number of Physical Processor (CPU) Sockets located on the device

hardware being protected. For example a server running a quad core CPU (Figure A below) installed in a

single physical CPU socket will only need to pay for 1 socket.

Figure A depicts a system that has one socket containing a quad core processor so here one ‘per socket’

license is required (per protected server)

Figure B depicts a system that has 2 sockets each containing a dual core so here two ‘per socket’

licenses are required; one per each socket (per protected server)

One important point to note is that there is no need to consider the number of cores per socket, the

licensing and pricing is on a ‘per socket’ basis.

This should not be confused with ‘Per Core’ pricing where the same server used in the example (Figure

A) above with a quad core CPU would require four licenses.

Upgrade from Per-Host to Per-Socket:

Customers are not allowed to upgrade from existing per-host to this per-socket offering. These new ‘Per

Socket’ licensing offerings are new starting Sept. 1, 2012.

FAQ 1: Why ‘per socket’ pricing?

‘Per Socket’ will be apt for those customers who plan to move to a multicore processor environment

retaining the same number of sockets. For example, in Figure B above, a customer’s upgrade from a dual

core to a quad core environment without adding another socket results in savings.

FAQ 2: When should I go for ‘per socket’ and when should I choose ‘per host’?

‘Per host’ is always advisable for all/any environments that expect more VMs in the future and but

currently do not know how many sockets will be needed to support the system. Customers can purchase

a ‘per host’ license and protect unlimited VMs within the host (license is per host and is not

transferrable to multiple hosts/servers).

Managed Capacity Pricing CA ARCserve Managed Capacity Program (MCP) Pricing is designed for large companies with complex IT

environments and highly demanding requirements with over 1TB of protected storage capacity.

MCP is licensed per “protected Terabyte” and allows unlimited access to the selected product

technologies to protect up to the license capacity purchased with a minimum purchase quantity of one

terabyte.

How to calculate the price:

1. Count the number of terabytes to be protected

2. Select the required managed capacity program

3. Multiply the number of TBs by the managed capacity program unit price to get the final price

For example, let’s say a customer wants to protect 4 TB of Data and would like to go with “CA ARCserve

r16 RPO Managed Capacity - ARCserve Backup and ARCserve D2D and ARCserve Replication-File Only”

MCP Option.

1. Number of terabytes to be protected = 4

2. If the price of “CA ARCserve r16.5 RPO Managed Capacity (with 1 year Enterprise support)” is $

9,540 USD

3. Final Price = 4 x $ 9,540 = $ 38,160 USD


Upgrade and Migration Path from OLD to New MCP Programs

Customers under maintenance

FOC Upgrades

Customers who own “CA ARCserve r16 All Inclusive Managed Capacity” SKUs can get free of charge

upgrades to new “CA ARCserve r16.5 RPO RTO Managed Capacity - All Inclusive” SKUs.

Customers who own MCP SKUs other than “CA ARCserve r16 All Inclusive Managed Capacity” cannot get

free of charge upgrades from old to new MCP Programs. They should purchase upgrade SKUs as

mentioned in the below section.

Upgrade to New MCP Programs

Customers who are under maintenance and own MCP SKUs other than “CA ARCserve r16 All Inclusive

Managed Capacity” can purchase the below listed discounted upgrade SKUs to get into new MCP

Programs. There are no restrictions on upgrade paths. For example, customers under “CA ARCserve

Backup and ARCserve Replication and High Availability r16 Managed Capacity” can upgrade to “CA

ARCserve r16.5 RPO Managed Capacity - ARCserve Backup and ARCserve D2D and ARCserve Replication-

File Only” MCP or “CA ARCserve r16.5 RPO RTO Managed Capacity - All Inclusive” MCP.

Maintenance Renewals

Customers under current maintenance can continue to purchase old MCP program maintenance

renewal SKUs if they want to continue with their existing MCP pricing model. If customers want to move

to new MCP Programs, they should purchase the new MCP program upgrade SKUs instead of old

maintenance renewal SKUs as mentioned above.


Additional Capacity

If customers wish to continue with an expired MCP program and purchase additional capacity, they have

to contact the CA customer care team to re-activate old MCP SKUs in the system and purchase

accordingly.

Customers with Expired Maintenance

FOC Upgrades

Customers with expired maintenance contracts are not entitled to free of charge upgrades. However,

they are allowed to purchase discounted r16.5 new MCP programs as shown below:

Maintenance Renewals

Customers under maintenance should renew before their maintenance contract expires. CA will attempt

to notify customers within 90 days of maintenance expiration. In some instances, reminders may also

be sent within 60, 45, 30, and 15 days of maintenance expiration and again 30 days after expiration


depending upon the region. Once the customer’s maintenance has expired they must purchase an

upgrade or pay a reinstatement fee.

Additional Capacity

If a customer with expired maintenance wishes to continue with an expired MCP program and purchase

additional capacity, they will have to contact the CA customer care team to re-activate old MCP SKUs in

the system and purchase accordingly.

Monthly Subscription: MSP 3.0 Pricing

Monthly Subscription Licensing is available exclusively to authorized Managed Service Providers (MSPs).

It provides a flexible and economical way for MSPs to license core CA ARCserve technologies to provide

services to their customers. The following licensing options are available with the new MSP 3.0

program-

- Per-Server

- Per-Virtual Machine

- Per-Socket

- Per-Terabyte

- Per-Replication Scenario

- Per-Workstation

- Per-SBS\Essentials Server

MSP Program with a commitment for minimum monthly purchase:

MSPs willing to make monthly minimum purchases of $2000 USD will be able to avail discounted prices

on the MSP Program Part Codes.

Migration from ARCserve Backup to ARCserve D2D r16.5:

We now allow customers with or without maintenance to migrate from ARCserve Backup to D2D by

allowing them to purchase newly created CA ARCserve D2D Standard/Advanced Edition/Advanced

Virtual Edition cross grade SKUs with maintenance instead of ARCserve Backup Upgrade or Renewal

SKUs as mapped below.
