Dear Josephine,
I am frustrated, angry, perturbed,
flustered, annoyed, outraged, indignant,
irate and most of all furious. Would you
like to know why? Well I’ll tell you, even if
you don’t want to know. I got a parking
ticket! I had to park on the street outside
of the building for longer than the allowed
2 hours. I realize that this is frowned upon
and in normal circumstances I would
DEAR JOSEPHINE
Jo King - Worked for Lithia 15 years, started as a temp and never left after
the job was done. You can find her in the stairways or elevator. She has high
aspirations of being on Food Network's Iron Chef so in her spare time you
can find her at Shoji's cooking with her own "secret ingredient."

agree with you and say that I deserved the
ticket. However, when they are doing
construction in the parking lot and it is
unavailable and there is nowhere else to
park, I think we should get a free pass
until the construction is finished. This, is
not the reason I am so upset, the reason I
am so upset goes beyond getting a parking
ticket. I am upset, no furious, because all
of this could have been avoided if the
people who have parking permits for the
garage, would actually park in the garage!!
I can’t even tell you how irritating it is to
drive around the block and see parking
permit hang tags in the mirror of the cars
in the very few parking spots. It really
makes me want to turn every single one of
them in and have their permits removed
and given to people who will actually use
them. People who would be grateful to
have the opportunity to always have a
parking spot regardless of the construction
going on. I am not above going around
and getting license plates of all of those
vehicles and turning them into the people
who handle the parking permits. Maybe
then I can get a parking spot and not get a
ticket. Do you have any suggestions, or
should I go to the proper authorities?
Perturbed Parker

Table of Contents
Dear Perturbed,
Wow, you’re so passionate about your
parking, as you very well should be.
Parking tickets are no joke, I thought
they were more of a suggestion and I
parked my car out on the street every day
for two years. I finally came out to see my
car getting towed, apparently you have to
pay those tickets, who would have
thought?
Anyhow, that won’t happen to you
because you clearly are aware that you
need to pay those or else you wouldn’t be
so angry. Aside from parking super close
and blocking these annoying people in,
there isn’t a lot you can do other than talk
to the people who control the parking.
Start writing down license plate numbers,
vehicle make and models and take it to
the authorities so that they can address
the inconsiderate people so you don’t
have to deal with that. As a proud Lithia
employee you shouldn’t have to be
subjected to such blatant misuse of the
generosity of the company. Each parking
pass costs the company money, money
that they willingly spend so that we are
blessed with a guaranteed parking spot
when coming to work. It’s a blatant
disregard for other people when these
people park in the lots when they clearly
have garage spots. I wholeheartedly agree
with you that these people are rude
should definitely be turned into the
parking authorities. Power to the non
permit people!! May we live long and
park prosperously in the years ahead.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: DAVID POWELL By Sara Plankenhorn
8
Table of Contents
Born in Grants Pass, David Powell’s birth
certificate lists Jump Off Joe Creek as his
place of birth. He is one of four siblings.
David has two brothers and one sister all
his junior. Marriage is the common
denominator in the Powell family. David,
like his brothers, is married and his sister
plans to wed in November of this year. All
hoping to have marriages that stand up to
the 39 year run like his parent’s so far. The
senior Powell’s still occupy the family farm
in Eagle Point and all of their children have
remained in the valley. The Powell men
enjoy spending time with each other-
whether it is fishing for salmon and
steelhead or chopping firewood for their
father. David and his brothers recently
returned from their ninth annual trip to
Hart Mountain in Eastern Oregon.
David graduated from Eagle Point High
School in 1996 and then studied at UTI in
Arizona where he received his associates
degree in automotive diesel. He and Laura
will celebrate their second anniversary in
September and they welcomed baby Heidi
Elizabeth eleven weeks ago. David and
Laura almost didn’t happen. Mistakenly, he
signed up for a wine club membership at
Agate Ridge Winery. While picking up his
final order, David was approached by the
tasting room manager. When asked if he
was seeing anyone David felt compelled to
fib a bit- assuming that the she- herself had
designs on him. But he confessed to being
single and was set up with Laura. As if he
doesn’t have enough on his plate already-
they have gone in on a shared venture –
they recently purchased Best Friends
Animal Hospital in Talent and Laura, a
veterinarian, runs the practice. Someday
they would like to own a winery and build
a castle. The castle would serve as a place to
host events and provide a living for family
members.
Seventeen years ago David joined Lithia
Motors as a Jeep apprentice technician at
Medford Dodge. He then functioned as an
internal service advisor and soon moved on
to being a customer facing service advisor.
David joined Support Services and his role
became that of the Northwest regional
service advisor trainer. He then took on the
function of acquisitions service manager.
Next, David spearheaded a group of service
advisors to reduce the turnover rate. He
then began installing service contract
programs. And last but not least David
joined LAD as the fixed ops project
manager and most recently has settled into
his current position as owner loyalty and
retention manager. He is directly involved
with earning and retaining customers for
life utilizing targeted personal messages.
David’s work ethic is impressive. He knows
what he wants in life, he believes it is out
there, and with effort he is working to
accomplish his goals. His first job outside
the family farm was at Burger King in
White City. This was a deal breaker with his
grandmother. David had his eye on a truck
and she was willing to lend the funds only if
David sought out work on his own. For
eight months he took his weekly paycheck
to church where he gave it to his
grandmother until the debt was paid. How
has having a baby changed this
self-admitted rule breaking/ boundary
pushing guy? David says it has opened his
mind to long term planning. He would like
Heidi to have ample opportunities in life.
He is beginning to think about college
education and retirement.
So, true story. David was on an acquisition
in Nebraska where the high temperature
was 19 degrees. On this particular morning
the temperature was a balmy 11 degrees.
And just like every morning for the past two
weeks-David pulled the bright blue Chevy
Avalanche under the portico in front of the
motel office, locked it with the only key and
left it running. He was inside checking out
while a thief stole the vehicle. The local
police were more concerned with the fact
that David had left the car running and less
interested in retrieving the avalanche which
held his belongings. To add insult to injury-
he was placed in the back of the patrol car
and delivered to the front entrance of the
dealership. Car was found… items were
forever lost.
The word that comes to my mind when I
think of David Powell is longevity. This is
supported by his solid family loyalty, his
steadfastness in his career, and his
unwavering commitment to his future
and those who depend on him.

After taking our order the waitress quickly

Shortly after finishing our salad – this

LOOK AT THIS GOODNESS!
I have to say both dishes showed a
wonderful display of food art! The
vegetables tasted extremely fresh and not
overcooked. The dish itself was in no way
drown in the sauce it was cooked in; the
sauce-to-food ratio was spot on. Though
these menu items had a picture of a spicy
pepper next to them (signifying a spicy
dish) it was very mild to me (of course, I
can handle some pretty hot foods). That
being said they can make these dishes as
spicy as you want, so if you like your spice
be sure to let them know!
If you get the chance I highly recommend
stopping in and trying them out. You can
call in orders to go, however they’ve halted
delivering food for the time being. Be sure

LILYPHAD THAI CUISINE RESTAURANTby Guest Reviewer, Buddy Lawruk
Hmmmm. . . what’s for lunch? A common
question asked and heard on a daily basis. I
was asked this very question the other day
and I thought “I’m craving something with
a pronounced aromatic component with an
added edge of spice!”. THAI CUISINE!!
With the decision made on the type of
food we wanted, it was time to decide on
which establishment to visit. We decided
on one of the ‘newer’ downtown
restaurants; a small place called “LilyPhad
Thai Cuisine”, located at 318 E. Main St.
in downtown Medford.
This restaurant offers a VERY affordable
lunch menu with dishes that are prepared
with your choice of tofu, chicken, pork,
beef, shrimp – and even squid! Other
dishes also include duck, salmon, tilapia…
We decided on the following:
