Question 1

In (a), the candidate was able to name two principles of fashion design for creating a total look for an outfit.

In (b), the candidate was able to point out one visual effect of‘emphasis’. In (c)(i) and (ii), the candidate

was able to draw a clear sketch with an explanation for a ladies’ dress using‘emphasis’as a principle of

design.

Question 2

In (a), the candidate was able to name the graphic pattern of Figure 2 and Figure 3. In (b)(i), the candidate

only drew a T-shirt with short sleeves instead of long sleeves for winter. In (b)(ii), the candidate was unable

to suggest a suitable type of fabric. In (b)(iii), the candidate was unable to construct a pattern for the front

panel of the winter jogging pants. In (b)(iv), the candidate was able to draw a diagram to show the finished

waist part of the winter jogging pants.

Question 3

In (a), the candidate was able to state only one reason for the existence of the nuclear families in Hong Kong

as ‘families might not have enough financial support for the standard of living in Hong Kong’. In (b), the

candidate was able to explain the changes that technological developments have brought to the lifestyle of

people in Hong Kong. In (c), the candidate was able to give only one reason for the clothing buying patterns

of a young executive, i.e. buying clothing that can show one’s style.

Question 4

In (a), the candidate was unable to state the problem that may arise if the garment is not cut on grain

properly, but just stated that the garment could not fit the wearer. In (b)(i), the candidate was able to give

reasons for the use of fine wool material for winter wear. In (b)(ii), the candidate was able to suggest one

type of natural fibre, i.e. cotton, and also explain clearly the reasons for the choice of material. In (b)(iii), the

candidate was able to suggest the correct seam type and to provide an illustration of the seam. In (b)(iv), the

candidate was able to give a suggestion on the correct stitch type and to provide an illustration.

Question 5

In (a), the candidate was able to give two social responsibilities that an apparel supplier needs to take up. In

(b), the candidate was able to provide correct answers on the rights that an apparel consumer can enjoy with

corresponding implications for the apparel suppliers.

(a) (i) The candidate was able to give the correct name of this clothing style.

(ii) The candidate was able to give the name of the fashion designer.

(b) (i) The candidate identified the factor for the emergence of this trend, without elaboration.

(ii) The candidate gave two appropriate features of this clothing style.

Question 2

(a) The candidate was unable to give an accurate answer. The question is related to the trend of military

clothing in recent years, but not the clothing worn in wartime.

(b) The candidate drew a sketch of a ladies’ military jacket, with two appropriate military elements described

separately.

Question 3

(a) (i) The candidate was able to give the names of the country where the costumes come from.

(ii) The candidate correctly described the similarity and differences between the hanbok and kimono,

indicating that the candidate understands the diagrams as well as the kimono.

(b) (i) The candidate designed two outfits for the boy and girl, with separate description of the two elements

transplanted from the original designs.

(ii) The candidate stated concisely all the reasons for the selection of fabric, style and design features.

Question 4

The candidate gave a trend of‘Edwardian’on classic, not a clothing style. It can be regarded as an acceptable

answer. However, the New look of Christian Dior cannot be regarded as an avant-garde style.

The candidate was also able to present a Halloween costume with an avant-garde feel and was able to describe

the reasons for the selection of colours, styles, silhouette and accessories, but the description on selecting

design features is vague.

Question 5

(a) The answers are partially correct. It is unacceptable to say that fibre blending can produce new fabric and

functional fibre.

(b) (i) The answer is correct.

(b) The candidate was able to list three characteristics. However, all three characteristics are related to elastic

only.

(a) The candidate was able to mention the meanings of all five symbols.

(b) The candidate gave four examples of safety hazards. In fact, these examples can be grouped into two

categories.

(c) The answers are irrelevant to colourfastness, indicating that the candidate is ill-informed on this topic.

Question 8

The candidate was unable to give the factors contributing to burning of textile products. In the part where the

candidate was required to give examples of flame-resistant fibres, only one answer, wool, is correct and the

explanation on its burning behavior was correct. In the part where the candidate was required to give example

of textile apparel products treated with flame resistant agent, the candidate was also unable to give a typical

product in the answer. Curtain can be treated with flame resistant agent, but is not a common practice. In the

part of discussing the quality requirements involved after flame-resistant treatment, the answers are incorrect.
