How is that
even a problem?
the goal is to
allow 60+ to

education in the
hopes of a
better educated

doing exactly
what that policy
is designed to
facilitate.
Okay I admit it. I am
not seeking a college
education. I am just
going for the insurance
and it saves me
$15,000 a year--
enough to pay part of
my son's college
education. And he does
have a future. Because
he doesn't complain all
the time.
I dont get
why everyone is

this.
Neither do I. But they
can kiss my ass.
Zing! I must have hit
someone's target. The
only hope I see on this

people at least support
my viewpoint. The
other 40% think
they're brilliant but
show a total lack of
understanding about
what I have done.
Respect to

continuing your

you go to

younger years?
What did you
Yes, I got a B.A. in
sociology in 1971, then
became a songwriter
with my degree. I study

my career was in, so
the classes would be

Well, there is plenty of

my deductible is $250.
All of you people should

you'd learn something,

My major is irrelevant.
I spent most of my

Before that I was a

Yeah, a budget surplus
that was the result of a

everyone paid their

a paid-down deficit.
And then the bubble

Its good to
know we

problem. Now if
only we could fix
it.
It is unfixable. We have
created a society that is
folding in on itself. The
whole system is based
on trust. It's the fabric
of society. And it is now
beginning to unravelbecause there are
people who just don't
agree with one another

the American system.
Remember, it is not

about protecting the

When did you

relatively cheap
health care?
I realized this when my
own son was going to
college and I got him
student health
insurance. Then when I
faced my problem I said
to myself one night as I
bolted out of bed--if my
son can get this
insurance, why can't I?
The next morning Icalled up the school

My guess is
you're the son

close am I?
You're off. This is me,
not my son. I am not
defensive in any way.
But when people usedirty language I have
to call them on it. The
Boomers did not create
the mess, the
government did by
spending way too much
money on programs
and on public pensions.
It is not my fault. I
vote for people who are
trying to clean up the
mess, instead ofhanding it off to the

includes my own
children. But at least
they are smart enough

WHERE'S THE

From MOD below.
Do you
openly admit
this in real life?
I mean, is it
legal or do you
have to fake tobe willing to get
a degree to be
allowed to go on
with your

your insurance
running?
(European here,
not the most

system)
I'm telling you aren't I?
There is
federal (ie,
presumably
taxpayer?)
funding for
university loans
(which this guy
has, having
mentioned
upthread that
he hopes to getwritten off
through death
before full
repayment). If
many people
with complex
health problems
sign up to a
program, the
cost of it
increases. The

Don't any of you people
here watch Curb or
Louie or Seinfeld, yeahSeinfeld, good one. I
was just trying to be
like George and realize
it was possible not to
repay my loan, not that
I actually would. But
then the jerk store

were out of you. And so

way to cover
increased costs
is to raise
premiums on
group members,
and the healthy
(ie the majority
of students)
subsidise the
health needs ofthose with
greater issues
(the OP, but
also a minority
of non-mature
students)
because that's
usually how
insurance
works. You don't

actual cost of

it means that
they are likely

for all this with your
student loans. I am
getting nasty I know.
But I am losing control

Covered courtesy of
student insurance.
Hey, you
can't get under
my skin. I live in
a country where
diabetics receive
all (including
non-diabetic)medication for
free, and
therefore am
also not paying
for your student
loans. So don't
stay in school
just to annoy
me ;)
Yeah, all you kids out
there take note: The
reason this guy gets all
his meds for free in his
country, because we all
pay full price for it
here, then thepharmaceutical
companies, max their
profits by selling their
drugs to whatever
country they can for
whatever the market
will bear. In other
words, U.S citizens are
subsidizing these
jokers. And then they

No, they will

more. That's
how insurances
work. Please see
here.
Oh, so the student who
gets meningitis or

from drugs aren't
driving up my costs?
C'mon, insurance is for
everyone. It's a shared
expense by society, at
least that is what

Obama says. And you
will be paying for
everyone's pre-existing

Obamacare totally kicks
in in the next few

You still have

My dear, dear unknown

I do understand
insurance. And I havetaken courees in
statistics and
probability theory and I
worked in marketing
for years. Your refusal
to believe me indicates
you are one of those
people who thinks
Oliver Stone is a

I believe theOP went to
school for free
due to being
over 60. It
depends on the
area and school
for starters, but
it's a very
common policy.
No I paid.
I don't really
get why itshould be free
for people over
60 when people
under 60 have
to pay a shit ton
of money.
It isn't free for people
over 60. They haven'tgone on Medicare yet.
And even Medicare isn't
free, though every
liberal thinks it is. It
has premiums, too.
About $100 a month
for Part B, about $200
a month for Part D, and
about $25 a month for
prescription drug plan.
All in all about $3,000

means in a few years
my wife and I will be
paying almost $6,000 a
year for our Medicare.
You young college
students with your
insurance have it easy.
Oops, wait. I'm one of
you, but I won't be forlong. Start Medicare in
3 months. Damn
Medicare, you're
making my health care
costs go up.
Especially
considering
returns. A fresh
faced person
with a degree
can contributefar more back
into society than
a 60 year old
with a degree.
Let's see if you
contribute in your life
even as much as I am
on this site. I am
offering people a way
to save a ton on theirhealth care costs and
being criticized for it by
you. Besides all that I
doubt if you will
contribute more than I
have in my working
years and continue to
do so. I am a published
author and people
enjoy the stuff I write.
Let's see if people one
day say the same thing
about you.
Right, that's why
college graduates
immediately find six
figure jobs, because
they contribute so
much.
Old people
talk too much in
college classes.
Oh, God, you're right. I
didn't shut up in any of
my classes. I will moveto the back row for my
next class and remain
silent, just like I did in
fifth grade. (Insert 5th
grade report card here)
It says Ricky seldom
contributes in class.
Maybe that's because
my teacher forced me
to sit at my desk placed
in the corner by him

And you kids, think you
have it tough today
(twitching eye tic goes

Because
there are FAR
less 60+ year

it comes down
to money.
It makes the world go

That's exactly
what I was
thinking.
Wonder if
anyone can shed
some light on
that.
I am saving over
$15,000 on a year on
my premiums by going
back to school for
student health
insurance. Gee, with
the money I'm saving,maybe I should
contribute it to the
government for making
me the success that I
was. Ha ha.
All the more
reason to make
sure they're
well-educated!
Are you mocking me or
pre-judging the way
I'm going to vote?
Old people
vote.
You mean we count for
something? Why thank
you, young person.
Well, part of
education is
learning from
your peers and
classmates. A 60
year old
classmate could
conceivably be
part of richer
learning
environment.
So, the fresh
faced people will
thus contribute
more than if
they were all
clones.
I contributed little in
class. I just took the
money I saved on
insurance and partied
hard on weekends, ;)

Because Mr.
60 year old has
already paid his
"returns".
Schools usually
only allows
seniors to sign
up for classesthat have
openings after
all the regular
students have
signed up. They
still need to buy
books and all
that.
(What this person is
saying is 100% false.
You can't say
that and not
elaborate.
What I mean to say is
that I am able to get
into any class i want asmuch as any student
can. They do not age
discriminate. I am a
regular full time,
degree-seeking student
in the School of
Continuing Studies. But
I can take classes
during the day, too.
But I get a senior
discount on my books,
one of the advantages
of AARP membership.
Hope this clarifies.
Me neither,
but if that's the
program he's in,
it's not his fault
tuition is free.
My tuition is not free, I
took out loans for it.
And I will have to pay
those loans back once I
leave school to go on
Medicare at an
outrageous 7.8%
interest rate.
ONCE AGAIN PEOPLE.
MY TUITION ISN'T
FREE. I PAY FOR IT
WITH STUDENT LOANS.
HOW MANY TIMES DO I
HAVE TO SCREAM THIS
OUT. NOW WONDER
THE AVERAGE
COMPREHENSION
SCORE ON TODAY'S
SAT'S ARE SO LOW.

There do
seem to be a lot
of bozos talking
shit. 64 isn't
ancient. My
grandfather is
89, and only
finally retired
(for real thistime) a year or
do ago. You
likely still have
enough life left
in you to
surpass the
amount of years
many of these
bozos have
currently been
on Earth.
I hope so, but one
never knows.
What's that you say?
I had a
professor who
received her
PhD at 68 and
was teaching,
after she got it.
Boy, was she dumb. Or
the school that hired
her was. Don't you
know that people my
age know jack shit.
He is taking a
class seat away
from a student
who will actually
be able to take
those skills into
the workplace. I
don't see this as
a major issue,
but surely it
should be
considered as a
con to the
program.
Sorry, but I was always
taught that college
wasn't for working. It's
education for
education's sake. Or to
put it another way. A
mind is a terrible thing
to waste. Or since I
have diabetes, let me
put it this way. A waist
is a terrible thing to
mind.
Depends on
the school
policy, some of
them that offer
free tuition for
older students
also require
them to wait
until after the
paying students
have re istered.
Sorry to pop your
balloon, but tuition is
not free for anybody.
Even old people have
to pay, just in 1960
dollars. So that means
if I were living in a
time warp fantasy, I
would only pay $135 a
semester for tuition at
a state school.

Counting for inflation,
that would be close to
$1,500 a semester for
tuition. What's that you
say? You pay a lot
more than that now.
Sorry, but I'm not one
of those college
presidents making a
corporate CEO salary,
like most of them do
these days as they
continue to call
themselves educators.
So your
school has a
different policy.
I know schools
that give
reduced or free
tuition to people
60+.
I guess it does 'cause
they sure charge me,
but I: am actually
enrolled as a degree-
seeking student.
I would
definitely agree
to that system,
but the OP has
not really
clarified the
policies he went
through at his
particular
institution.
That's because if I gave
out my real name and
real story on this site,
all the angry people
would come after me
with sledgehammers.
Or at least with video
games that allow them
to swing animate
sledgehammers.
If I did, nobody would
listen to me anyway.
This generation can't
hold its attention on
anything for more than
a few minutes. So
there is no use trying
to explain exactly how I
did it.
Think about
that policy for a
moment. It
encourages
older people to
get a good
education, and
as a side benefit
they also
receive health
care. But hey, if
Wow. Now that is
someone close to my
heart, even if they do
sound like an ass. Do I
sound like an ass?

you re years
old and want an
education and
health care,
SCREW YOU!
You have to
build up $80k in
debt for THAT
privilege, buddy.
OP said that
he paid his own
tuition.
Yes, I did the first year.
The next two were
loans, that I will be
paying back.
Free or
reduced tuition
classes are often
"community
education"
classes like
organicgardening or
into to jewelry
making and do
not qualify one
for student
services.
Well I took astronomy,
english, spanish,
etcc....not basket
weaving. And I go to a
respected major
uniiversity.
Yeah, and the
costs outlaid on
him will be
reflected when
the price forthat plan for
that school goes
up. Insurance
companies dont
exactly like
giving money
away and taking
losses.
What about the shared
sacrifice democrats
always talk about.
Aren't you willing to
participate in theprogram, kid?
