Emily Travis

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Emily Travis, I am 19

years old, I just finished my freshman year at APSU, and you can most often find me

teaching in several of the children’s services here at The Tabernacle. I have been

raised in church, specifically in this church, all my life. I have seen God work in so

many ways, and I am thankful everyday for what He has done and still doing.

God has been intervening in my life since I was born. When I was only two

weeks old, my mom, Sheryl Travis, experienced life-threatening, postpartum com-

plications. God had a plan for both her life and my life. God spared my mom’s life

so that she could raise me up and teach me how to be a woman of God just as she

was and still is today. My mom is amazing, and I thank God for having His hand

upon her and my family throughout that time of need.

Like I mentioned before, I have been in church all my life. I can remember

attending church at the old building on Highway 46. Back then, there were definitely

a lot less people in attendance. There were so few people at one point in time that

my brother, sister, and I were basically the only children attending. I can remember

on Wednesday nights that the Pastor’s daughter, my brother, and I would play card

games in the fellowship hall. God eventually sent Pastor G and Barbara, Patty Ful-

ton, and other mighty men and women of God to the church. This is when I remem-

ber really experiencing God’s presence and becoming serious about my relationship

with God. When I was about 10 or 11 years old, I was baptized in the Holy Spirit at

Pastor G and Barbara’s house during one of their prayer meetings. This was a life-

changing experience that I will never forget because of the faith and boldness that

was instilled in me that day.

Throughout my life, I have attended many church services, youth camps,

RAMP, Winterfest, Kidsfest, Purity Conferences, etc. These God-filled experiences

would not have been possible without God and His faithful servants, Pastor G and

Barbara, making a way for the youth to attend. I am so thankful for Pastor G and

Barbara. They dedicated and continue to dedicate their lives to God and to His work.

They make so many sacrifices in their own lives in order to reach out and minister to

the children in this region. I am one of those children that they have positively im-

pacted. They have taught me how to read and understand God’s word, intercede with

prayer, witness, etc. Without God’s guidance and their dedication, I could be in-

volved in drugs, alcohol, or other types of sin. I could be caught up in the world,

ignoring God. However, I am serving God with all my heart, I have a loving family

that also serves God, and I have a church that is growing and seeking God above all

else.

God has always been faithful throughout my entire life. God has never left

my side. He has been by me and has been merciful and gracious since the beginning.

I am still growing and maturing in God’s word, and I see God’s hand on my life and

on the lives of those around me. God is my provider. God is my comfort and my

peace. “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).
