JOIN US FOR THE CONVENTION On May 5-8, funeral directors from across the Midwest will converge upon the vibrant Kansas City suburb of Overland Park to take advantage of leading-edge educational programming and an exhibit hall offering tools, ideas and products applicable to your everyday work life.

• EARN CE. Over 20 hours of continuing education options delivered by nationally recognized, knowledgeable speakers are available. There will be a range of sessions to satisfy attendee education needs from marketing to succession planning.

• VISIT EXHIBITORS. This is an excellent opportunity to view the newest innovations and products by visiting numerous exhibit hall vendors.

• NETWORK. With an anticipated attendance of around 500 funeral directors and suppliers, networking opportunities are plentiful. Numerous social events provide attendees the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences on a frequent basis.

REGISTRATION INCLUDES:Admission to all exhibit functions and convention education sessions. Lunch and beverage functions within the exhibit hall are also included. Spouse registration is offered only to spouses not employed in the funeral service profession.

TICKETED EVENTS: The banquet, dinner theater, golf tournament, networking luncheon, and Bury the Hatchet events are not included in the registration fee and require purchased tickets. Please purchase all tickets via this form in order to provide accurate counts to all vendors. The dinner theater tickets are non-refundable and must be purchased by April 4. After April 19, all other ticketed events canceled by the registrant will be non-refundable unless we resell your ticket.

REGISTRATION POLICIES: Attendees registered on or before Friday, April 26 will receive the early registration discount. Only registered individuals with badges or tickets may attend Convention events.

REGISTRATION CANCELLATION POLICY: Registrants canceling before Friday, April 26 will receive full refunds. After April 26, registrants will receive a full refund less a $10 cancellation fee.

ATTIRE: Business casual attire is recommended with the exception of the Annual Banquet where registrants are encouraged to dress in business attire.

LARRY STUART, JR., as President of Crematory Manufacturing & Service, Inc., has seen the negative impact that poor crematory maintenance and improper operating procedures can bring about. Larry has developed cremation curriculum and spoken at numerous professional events, trained cremation professionals, all with a mission to advance the safety and efficiency of cremation facilities,

VERNIE FOUNTAIN is a graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science and became licensed as a funeral director and embalmer and owned and operated Fountain Mortuary Service. He currently owns and operates Fountain Embalming Services, Fountain National Academy of Professional Embalming Skills and Forensic Investigative Resources of the Midwest (F.I.R.M.), and focuses on teaching highly

BARB MARES is Founder and Chairperson for the Greater Kansas City American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Chapter and a speaker on suicide loss and grief.

KENT RADER, Known as the “World’s Cleanest Comedian and Speaker,” helps people and associations learn and experience how laughter matters in reducing stress and building quality organizations. Kent graduated from William Jewell College with a B.S. in Accounting. He survived five years in public accounting and twelve years as C.F.O. and C.E.O. of hospitals before

becoming a professional speaker. Kent authored the stress reduction book titled Let It Go, Just Let It Go. He has been heard on NPR’s Talk of the Nation, Sirius Satellite radio.

JOHN MCQUEEN is a second-generation funeral director & embalmer who began his career in the “family business”, Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes. At 22, John and his siblings grew the enterprise into one of the best-known brands in the funeral industry. In 2010, John bought out his partners and continued to grow the company’s footprint into Florida’s largest family-

owned funeral operation. Once dubbed “the most innovative guy in funeral service”, John is a leading innovator in funeral service introducing many new concepts, including the world’s first Bio-Cremation process that utilizes water instead of fire. John currently serves as the Managing Director of Innovation & Professional Development for Foundation Partners Group.

CURTIS ROSTAD is nationally known as a speaker and seminar presenter on various aspects of funeral service. With 50 years of funeral service experience as a licensed funeral director, embalmer, and funeral home owner, he has served as executive director of the Indiana, Wyoming, and Colorado Funeral Directors Associations. Curtis has authored dozens of published articles

for funeral service trade publications as well as authoring numerous training manuals for funeral service professionals. His manual on controlling accounts receivable remains the premier authority on the subject.

JOE PRIMO is an international speaker and the CEO of Good Grief, serving hundreds of children and families each month after the death of a parent or sibling. Good Grief provides education and advocacy nationally in order to ensure communities effectively respond to the needs of its children. Primo is also a spokesperson for the Funeral Service Foundation and their Youth &

Funerals Initiative. Joe served as a board member and the President of the National Alliance for Grieving Children and is the author of What Do We Tell the Children?: Talking to Kids About Death and Dying. Joe received his Masters of Divinity from Yale University.

BRAD SPEAKS is the President and CEO of Speaks Chapels in Independence, Missouri. He runs three funeral homes, a cemetery, a crematory, and a preneed operation. Brad is a past president of the Selected Independent Funeral Homes Association. He is a Rotarian and a former pastor, and he currently serves on the Funeral Service Foundation Board of Trustees. Brad is a graduate

of Graceland University with a double major in History and Political Science. .

HAROLD IVAN SMITH is a grief educator and a wordsmith and storyteller, whether through his speaking, teaching, writing, or counseling. Smith is a graduate of The Mid-America College of Funeral Service, George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University (Ed.S.), and has the doctorate from Asbury Theological Seminary. He is a Fellow in Thanatology, recognized by the Association of Death Education and Counseling. He is a member of the teaching faculty Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. His primary research is on the grief of the U.S. Presidents and First Ladies, particularly during their White House years.
