Preparing for Christmas with the Sacrament of Reconciliation (opportunities):
——————————————————————-—————————————
•Saturdays after the morning and evening Mass •Thursday, December 14th, 7:30-8:30 p.m. •Sunday, December 17th, 6:30-8 p.m. •By request, if desired
Please take note that on Saturday, December 23rd, there will be no 7:30 morning Mass, due to the back-to-back
weekend and Christmas Masses this year.
Change in Wednesday Mass Time:
In consultation with the Parish Council, a slight adjust-
ment is being made to our daily Mass schedule.
Beginning on Wednesday, December 6th, we will
drop the 7:30 morning Mass time each Wednesday
morning and will replace it with a Mass at 7p.m. each
Wednesday evening as is done during the Season of
Lent.
This allows some individuals, who work during the
day, to have an opportunity to attend Mass, if they wish,
sometime during the week. Likewise, it provides the
Pastor with one day each week to not be required to be
up and functioning for pastoral work at the crack of
dawn. Should there be a need, desire, or benefit for the
Pastor to be away overnight for some family visit, R & R,
etc., this adjusted schedule provides him with a window
of opportunity from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday
afternoon, which is in keeping with the policies of the
Diocese of Lafayette.
DEMOLITION HELP NEEDED!
In order to begin the process of making the School Hall Basement
safe, clean, and functionable, the Parish Council and the Build-
ing and Grounds Committee is asking for willing volunteers to help in tearing down wall coverings and moving items from the
basement space.
On December 2nd at 8:00am, the demolition process will begin.
Once everything is taken out and the walls are exposed, an as-
sessment of the current situation can be made. This assessment
will direct the renovation process, which will continue after the winter season ends. The religious education classes currently
located in the basement will be moved to a different location in the hall until classes convene after Christmas break.
THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HELP IN THIS PROCESS!

The Musings of Our Pastor
We now find ourselves getting caught up in the whirlwind of activities
associated with the Christmas Holiday Season. It may just be a good
time to give you a “heads-up” about something brought up in casual
conversation at a meeting a few weeks ago. It was brought to my at-
tention that there was some type of an event on New Year’s Eve, De-
cember 31st, which included some food and refreshments in the hall
later on in the evening. Unless I misunderstood things, it sounded like
your former Pastor, Fr. David, cooked something up for the event and
got the wine or other refreshments to embellish the celebration. If that
is the case, I do not feel any personal obligation to take “ownership”
for such an event and do not feel any real personal “enthusiasm” for
such an event. Let me explain.
Many, many, many years ago, I personally opted out of any and all
New Year’s Eve celebrations, and I would intentionally climb into
bed long before the magic hour of midnight. The New Year arrived
just fine without my getting caught up in the hysteria and without los-
ing sleep! To be quite honest, I was in better shape too, to celebrate
Mass for those coming to church on New Year’s Day.
One other little tidbit that plays into this situation ought to be shared
with you. Way back around the time of my ordination to the priest-
hood, I made a personal commitment that I would not get into the
practice of buying alcohol or alcoholic beverages for anyone or for
any occasion, not even for myself. You may have noticed that I
choose not to consume any alcohol, with the exception of what is used
for the celebration of Mass.
If there are parish members or families and households that would like
to give a warm welcome to 2018 on New Year’s Eve with some spe-
cial time of prayer in church, followed by food, refreshments, and
fellowship in the hall, feel free to make it happen as you see fit with
your own ingenuity and resources. (Be sure to let Betsy, the Parish
Secretary, know if you wish to use the hall!) I am committed to cele-
brating the 7:30 Mass on New Year’s Eve, and then I plan to retire to
my quiet inner chambers of my home. Around 10:30 or so, I will
climb under the blankets seeking a good night’s sleep, and rise at 5
o’clock to get myself together to celebrate the first Mass of the New
Year at 8:30, which honors Mary, the Mother of God.
May you and your family have a peaceful week that is splashed with
God’s enduring love and timely graces.
Fr. Ken
THANK YOU!
We would all like to express our heartfelt thanks for
the incredible amount of thoughtfulness we have
received in the past couple of weeks in the form of
prayer, donation of time, equipment, and food from
so many people. We cannot tell you how much it
means to receive such kindness and generosity. It
just goes to show that even in the midst of life’s
struggles, God provides us with all the love and sup-
port we need to get us through! Thank you all so
very much for everything.
Sincerely,

SNOW REMOVAL Weekly volunteers are needed for this coming winter to
remove snow and ice from walks and steps around the
church, rectory, and school hall. The weekly signup sheet
is currently in the back of church. There are two slots per
week available for volunteer families to fill. If your family
would like to assume responsibility for a week, please be
available for removal from Friday to the following Thurs-
day. THANK YOU to all that volunteer!
