THE IMPACT• Homicide is the second leading cause of death

for young people 10 to 24 years of age. • In 2007, 668,000 young people were treated for

violence related injuries.• 12.4% of 9-12 graders reported being in a fight

on school property• 30% of 6-10 graders reported bullying, being

bullied or both • In 2000, 6% of 10-17 year olds reported

electronic aggression, by 2005 that percentage increased 50%.

THE WAY OUT• You must involve the 10% of the

population that has the most influence over the rest of the population.

 • Positive changes can occur when schools,

community organizations, and law enforcement all come together with the common purpose of creating a safe and productive learning environment.

peer mediation programs• Set you and your organization’s

standards and expectations high and early
