MELANOMA

Melanoma is a more predominant form of skin cancer that in most cases is found in people who have fair skin or even skin that doesn’t burn that often. (Richardson, 2009)

If people who use tanning beds start tanning before the age of 30, those individuals have a 75% higher chance of developing melanoma in the future. (Richardson, 2009)

When a person only closes their eyes and does not use the appropriate UV protecting tanning goggles, they are only protecting their eyes by 25%.

Cataracts are cloudy areas in the lends of your eye, they occur when proteins form abnormal clumps on the eye.

“Ocular melanoma is a cancer that develops in the different parts of the eye that contain melanocytes—the iris and other nearby structures that belong to the middle pigmented layer of the eye,” (Sutton, Frey, and Longe, 2009)

The main goal of ocular melanoma is to limit the growth and spread of the disease.

This type of melanoma may spread from the eye to the liver, lungs and even the central nervous system even before it can be diagnosed.
