To look at the campus and to see hundreds of flags, it brings me to tears every year. My hope is always that our veterans see that others care about them, love them and appreciate everything they have done for this country.” Executive Director, Andrea Streich. Project Healing Waters

On Tuesday May 21st, UPMC Cole employees  & residents were honored to participate in the ProjectHealing Waters parade by showing their support of the veterans while they paraded through our Colecampus. The parade marks the beginning of the God's Country Chapter of Trout Unlimited's ProjectHealing Waters Fly Fishing event.  Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, initiated and conducted by members of the Federation of FlyFishers and Trout Unlimited, serves military personnel who have been wounded, injured or disabledto aid their physical and emotional recovery by introducing or rebuilding the skills of fly fishing andfly tying, and by using and enjoying these skills on fishing outings as lifelong recreation. Fifteen (15)disabled veteran guests participated this year from Tuesday, May 21 through Friday, May 24.  Thankyou veterans for including UPMC Cole in this wonderful event!

Cancer Support Group

Our cancer support group is here to help you navigate cancer and its effects, whether you are a long-term survivor or recently diagnosed. The group is open to those with cancer, survivors, caregivers, oranyone affected by cancer. We are here to provide guidance, support, and connection to help youmove forward. The Looking Glass Gift Shop

Volunteers Needed!The Looking Glass Gift Shop is open Monday-Thursday, 9:00am–4:00pm and Fridays, 10:00am–2:00pm.  Volunteers typically work a 3.5 hour shift, one day a week.  Morning shift is from 9:00AM -12:30PM, Afternoon shift is from 12:30PM-4:00PM. The STEM class at Austin High School, Shameless Audacity, recently donated $600 to the PattersonCancer Center from the sale of personalized signs made by the class. A total of $300 was raised by thesale of the signs and a matching donation of $300 was given by Harbor Freight Tools for Schools. Thankyou, Shameless Audacity, for giving back to your community and helping the patients at the PattersonCancer Center.

Donation to theEmergencyDepartment

UPMC Cole's Emergency Department recently had visitors stop by to make a donation. Boone and BoydFaulstick, along with Caroline Powers, wanted to memorialize their special friend Corry WilliamGaberseck. Caroline and the boys made freeze pop holders to hand out to children that come into theEmergency Department sick or scared. This activity has helped these two young boys cope with theheartbreak from the loss of their special friend Corry. Thank you Boone, Boyd, and Caroline for thinking ofour little patients at UPMC Cole, and for keeping them "Calm and Cool."

Honor Your Caregiver

The Cole Foundation recently recognized theOB Inpatient staff through the “Honor Your

Caregiver” program. A donation was made byDr. and Mrs. Mazen Fouany to thank the team

for their commitment to excellence in the carethey provide their patients. This donation will

be used to provide children's books in thewaiting room of UPMC Cole's OB/GYN office.

Board of DirectorsThe Cole Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors who volunteer their time and energy inpursuit of the Foundation's mission to support and enhance the work of UPMC Cole. The Foundationserves its communities by promoting awareness of needs and goals, and identifying and connectingdonors to those needs. Heart of Cole: Employee Giving Club"Making a Difference" ScholarshipThe purpose of the Heart of Cole Scholarship Fund is to provide financialassistance to individuals enrolled in an undergraduate study program incommunity colleges, colleges, trade schools or universities. This fund wasestablished in 2013 for current UPMC Cole employees and/or dependent 

child(ren) of an employee. The Heart of Cole Scholarship principally targets two or four year academicprograms or certificate/licensing programs. Financial Assistance is based on financial need, academicperformance, leadership potential, and community service contributions. This year's winners are asfollows:

Quinlan Bailey. Quinlan is a graduate of Coudersport High School. He plans to attend PennsylvaniaSchool of Technology to become a Physical Therapy Assistant.Jordan Brewer. Jordan is a graduate of Austin. Jordan plans to attend Edinboro Universitymajoring in Speech Pathology.Emily Gustafson. Emily is a graduate of Smethport High School. She plans to attend DuquesneUniversity and is enrolled in their Pre-Med program. Chelsey Streich. Chelsey is a graduate of Coudersport High School. She plans to attend WestVirginia University and is enrolled in their Pre-Med program.

Community Connection Fund give to area Senior CentersUPMC Cole employees who donate to the Employee Giving Club's Community Connection Fund recentlypresented the Galeton, Ulysses, Coudersport and Shinglehouse senior centers with a $1,000 check tohelp with the cost of running their centers. These senior centers provide meals, education and activitiesto senior citizens in their respective communities. It was a pleasure for UPMC Cole employees torecognize and thank those who make this service available to the elderly population in ourcommunities.
