Vision and Mission Our vision for St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church is to build and to sustain a vibrant and diverse community centered
around common worship, fellowship, service and education.
The mission of St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church, a parish for all people, is to extend God’s gracious love and hospitality to each other and to the community by providing worship that inspires, opportunities for service and growth on life’s journey, and a sacred place in the heart of Florissant where
people can find wholeness and strength.
Please remember:
T.E.A.M. Please donate as
often as you can.

VESTRY NOTES
The following notes are a summary of the actual vestry minutes, which are
posted each month on the bulletin board outside the church office. Parishion-
ers are invited to attend vestry meetings unless a closed session is called.
The Vestry met on Wednesday June, 12.
Commission Reports Finance – John Palmer Finance - Highlights from the report:
The year-to-date pledges equal $48,594 which is under the budg-
et of $49,612 by $1,018. At the end of April pledges were over
the budget by $880. The year-to-date operating receipts were
$59,012 which is under the budget of $61,133 by $2,120. At
the end of April operating receipts were over the budget by
$538. The year-to-date expenses were $76,751 which is over
the budget of $74,879 by $1,872. At the end of April expenses
were over the budget by $6,132. Operating receipts under the
budget and operating expenses over the budget which produced a
deficit of $17,739. Our budget is for a deficit of $13,746. At the
end of April our deficit was $16,592.
Building and Grounds – Dusty Hassler- We sustained very
minor damage in the recent storms. A small section of fascia on
Tudor Hall was pushed away from the building. We will have
this repaired in the near future. Work is still continuing on the
Nursery. Dennis and I are still coordinating a couple of paint
days. After painting is complete carpet will be installed. The
lights on the Altar are the only lights waiting to be replaced. We
are still waiting on getting a 2nd and 3rd bid for the HVAC repair
in the church. The donation amount for tables was $1,110.
Pastoral Care – Mike Dobbs- Mike was not at the meeting
and asked Rev. Renee for comments. Rev. Renee presented a
mock copy of an intercessory prayer list to be put up on the
bulletin boards. Vestry gave approval. The list will go up during
the summer months. Updates will be made at least monthly. Communication – Terri Denicke –Terri was able to put the
advertisement for the “Fill the Ford” into the Independent news-
paper and the St. Louis Post Dispatch online.
Christian Education – Nancy James– No Report
Youth Ministry – Nancy James– Our youth group along with
Ascension’s youth group have adopted a bedroom at the Dea-
coness Anne House that they will renovate. They plan to meet
on June 29th and start working on the room. The youth will be
selling glow products for the 4th of July as usual and selling the
snow cones as well.
Outreach – Jim Hollenberg - T.E.A.M. – Donations to
T.E.A.M. in May were 14 bags. The food drive, “Fill the Ford
with Ford” was held on Sat. June 8th. It was a great success. We
collected 112 bags of food, and $730.00 in cash for T.E.A.M. Jim
sent a letter of thanks to the Florissant Dierbergs. Jim will pick
another date in the fall for another “Fill the Ford” food drive.
Updates and reviews
Worship Committee – Harry Goff - The meeting of the
worship team was cancelled due to weather. We will meet in
August . Two new lectors have joined our ranks. They are
Nicole Nwanganga and Meridith Grames. Worship Lead-
er/Lector training will be held in August.
Fellowship/Hospitality – Carol Stout -Waterford Square
has our summer schedules. Cam Murphy and I are getting a
library together for Deaconess Anne House.
Parish Organizations - Holly Garrett - The ECW will be
lunching out during the summer and will resume regular activi-
ties once the program year starts up again.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Thoughts on St. Barnabas’ Sunday- Harry was very
impressed with the service. Mike was impressed with the icon
that was placed in Tudor Hall of the Saint Barnabas. Dusty
was impressed by the energy and activity of the parishioners.
Debbie echoed the same feelings. Debbie thanked Rev. Renee
for the wonderful sermon.
Building Use Committee/Agreement - No report
Time and Talent Follow up- Nancy James - Shannon
Kiechlin has signed up to be a part of the Grounds Beautifica-
tion Crew. Five others have signed up to volunteer at the
Deaconess Anne House. Commissioning Sunday will be Sep-
tember 15.
Dismantling Racism Project- Dusty stated that Rev.
Renee, Carol, Debbie and he met with Rev. Washington.
While they feel this is a very important project the Vestry has
decided not to participate at this time in order to devote more
energy to other projects.
NEW BUSINESS
The Purpose Driven Church- This was brought to the
attention of Rev. Renee, Debbie Haefner and Dusty Hassler by
Clark Burton. We will invite Clark to the July Vestry meeting
to discuss this book by Rick Warren.
Prep for upcoming Vestry meetings- Debbie would
like for Vestry members to have their reports submitted to
the office no later that 2 days prior to the meeting. The church
secretary will then email the compiled reports to members.
Solar Panels- Dusty suggested that we get a proposal for
potential installation of solar panels.
Next Vestry Meeting – The next Vestry Meeting will be
July 10 at 7:00 p.m.
.

“FILL THE FORD” FOOD DRIVE FOR T.E.A.M.
“THANK YOU” for helping us help them!
Reflections from a few of our volunteers:
“The two hours I spent at Dieberg”s from 8-10 went by fast because the people were nice and happy to help someone in need. I was
surprised when one women asked if I knew Martha Forney? Of course I did because Martha and her husband, Keith, were the first
music directors at St.Barnabas. They were there many years until they moved away. “
Yvonne Jones
“The thought occurred sitting at the table with the DONATION TO T.E.A.M. sign on it that we all seem to need this "IN YOUR
FACE" exposure to awaken our generous spirit that sometimes needs a little push.”
Nancy James
“It was very humbling to see and experience the complete generosity of people for a cause they might never need but knew of
those who did. As Rev. Renee said Sunday, we all had our stories and each was special. God was certainly in our midst Saturday. It
was wonderful.”
Carol Stout
“Great idea! What surprised me most was when a customer was given the smile and spiel and then they responded with cash rather
than reaching into a grocery bag for a canned good. Works out great for T.E.A.M. since I imagine they have amazing purchasing
powers.”
Mary Anselmo.
“I worked the last shift of the project, and was most impressed by the amount of food and money that was donated. It was most telling,
and touching, that it was often not those who appeared most affluent that were the most generous in their donations. “
Ron Grames
“People were coming and going and more were aware of our project than asked questions. They came out of Dierberg's and handed
us a couple items of food, or even one or two bags of food. Many placed dollar bills in the covered container: ones, fives, tens, and
expressed concern for the children who would not receive their two meals at school during the summer. The community was
reaching out to help those in need. No guilt messages were necessary to prompt this sharing. Our being there to help the food and
money travel to T.E.A.M. was enough. Giving feels good. Some helping others when one has been helped at an earlier time.”

Seeking Sharing Serving Attention Episcopal Church Women of St. Barnabas:
The summer lazy days are coming to a close. I do
hope you had fun in the sun and are well rested. The
E.C.W. has been busy over the summer doing excit-
ing things. Now it's time to begin in earnest the work
we are meant to do. We have many outreach
programs and need your help to accomplish them.
Remember the adage- “Many hands make light work.”
Join us Wednesday, September 11th. You will not
regret the time spent with E.C.W. Bring a sandwich to
share, a canned good for T.E.A.M., and a free-
will offering for the Quiet Circle. Don't forget to have fun with fellow church friends July
17 and Aug. 14.
August 14 – Let’s Make Wreaths!
9:30 a.m. – Gather at church. Bring your hot glue
gun, glue sticks, and wire cutters. Help create wreaths
for the November fundraiser. Lunch out afterward.
Take the time to give back to the parish, community,
diocese, nation and the world through the E.C.W.
outreach activities.

DEACONESS ANNE HOUSE
UPDATE
We need donations for the Intern Welcome Basket.
We have received a gas card and would hope for
more. We are in the process of donating both
religious and secular books to DAH and are looking
for “gently used” bookcases should anyone have one
you no longer use.
Many thanks to everyone who gave their time to our
very successful food drive on June 8. The outpouring
of blessings and donations were amazing.

In Deep Appreciation
Louis E. Murphy Jr.
Recently in the Forward Day by Day, I read the
following: “Most of us have experienced the holiness of
friendship and how it sustains us when life is hard.” Through Lou’s serious medical issues beginning in late 2012 to his final very peaceful passing to be with God
on May 20, 2013 we both truly experienced the
holiness of our friendships at St. Barnabas Episcopal
Church. I will always remember and be thankful for
your cards, phone calls, visits, love and support when
this period in our lives was very hard.
God bless each and every one,
Cam Murphy

Youth Group
As I mentioned in the last report, our youth group along
with Ascension’s have a bedroom that we are going to be
responsible for renovating. Our room is 15 feet by 14 feet
with a 12 foot ceiling and is in very good shape. We plan to
meet on June 29th and start working on our room. This will
be the cleaning and painting part of the renovation. We are
also planning to decorate the room. This will probably oc-
cur at the next meeting. We are planning a meeting in early July to get our room
completed. We are not at a point in the process where we
need particular items. When we get there I will let you
know. I want to thank our parishioners for their offers on
furniture and other items to help us with this project.

Recipe of the Month
July/August
Lara's Onion Dip
3 or 4 Big Onions-yellow or white
1 cup Sour Cream plus 1-2 tbsp. more
1 cup Mayonnaise- I use Hellman's
salt- I use somewhere between a pinch and a dash
pepper- more than salt- I use at least a1/2 teaspoon.
Chop onions and cook for 20 minutes on medium heat
with lid on until sweated. No peeking. After sweated
take lid off and finish cooking the onions until golden brown. This is not a fast process so be patient. Add
cooked onions to the other ingredients, stir and open
up the bag of potato chips and Enjoy. Also good with
veggies.

Training Sessions
Thank you to everyone who signed up to share their talents as Lectors and Worship Leaders for the coming
year. Please mark your calendars for Saturday, August
24, at 10:00 a.m. Current Worship Leaders need to
bring their Worship Leader Booklets. If you have lost
yours, please let Holly Garrett know so we can have
enough copies available. New folks, we will provide
them.
