BACKGROUND OF SPEAKERS

Timir M. Premjee

Timir M. Premjee is a consultant for Malarkey Taylor Associates, where he is director of the Asia-Pacific Cable and Satellite Markets. Mr. Premjee has been involved in a number of projects relating to the cable and satellite industry in Latin America, the United States and the Asia-Pacific regions. He is currently involved in establishing an MTA-EMCI branch office in Singapore. He is also working on a publication that will detail developments in new interactive and multimedia technologies in the Asia-Pacific which is due to be published at the end of February, 1996. He received his B.S. in Finance and Economics from Jacksonville University in Florida and subsequently earned an M.B.A. in International Business at the George Washington University in Washington, DC.

O.P. Khushu

O.P. Khushu, presently Director of the Technical Department at the permanent secretariat of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), has a background of 35 years in the broadcasting industry. Starting in 1960 as an Assistant Engineer, he rose to the position of Engineer-in-Chief at Doordarshan - the national television network of India, before joining the ABU, five years ago. Along the way, he held a range of positions in planning and management. As a senior member of the Technical Advisory Group for the Indian domestic satellite system INS AT, he led the conception and implementation of a range of broadcasting applications. He has represented India and the ABU in numerous international conferences, including several Administrative Radio conferences of the ITU. He is the current chairman of the Joint Technical Committee of the World Broadcasting Union.

Jeffrey Goh

Jeffrey Goh is currently a consultant for new media and the Internet with the National Computer Board. He is responsible for coordinating electronic publishing projects with private enterprise in order to facilitate the creation of a substantial body of electronically deliverable content. Thus far, such projects have included (but will not be limited to) directory services, electronic magazines and online stock photo ordering services. Mr Goh holds a bachelor's and a master's degree from the University of California at Berkeley.

Kim Michael Fairchild

Kim Michael Fairchild is a member of the technical staff at the Institute of Systems Science of the National University of Singapore, where he is conducting Virtual Reality applied research. He started working on what is now known as "Virtual Reality" 15 years ago at Honeywell's defence systems. At Honeywell, he developed many military-related applications with a focus on man-in-the-loop systems and visual simulations. Working in the Human Interface and the Software Technology programs at the American research consortium, MCC, he developed the first three-dimensional visualization system for abstract information and an early system for distributed access to shared information. Now at the Institute of Systems Science in Singapore,. He has recently finished the development of the "Dez" Virtual Reality authoring environment. He holds patents in image generation and information visualization.

William Stewart Campbell

William Campbell has over 30 years experience in all aspects of the mass communication business, including the planning, execution and evaluation of advertising, public relations, sales promotion and direct marketing programmes. He spent 24 of those 30 years - usually at Board level-in marketing communications organizations in Southeast Asia and the Subcontinent. He has worked with major advertising agencies such as Ogilvy and Mather and Leo Burnett and serviced a number of Fortune 500 companies.

William Claxton

William Claxton is the Managing Director of iMedia (S) Pte Ltd, a multimedia production services company which counts the National Computer Board as one of its shareholders. iMedia's clients include US-based print publishers moving into electronic publishing. iMedia has released a multimedia authoring tool known as "infoShip". He is a published software author, and a specialist in the emerging market of multimedia computing, with technical expertise in both computers and video systems. Mr Claxton was a participant in the Media, Publishing and Information Services Sector Subcommittee of IT2000, Singapore's Computerization plan for the next decade.

Dr. Daniel Goh

Dr Daniel Goh, Singapore CableVision's Executive Vice President, is concurrently the General Manager of Allied Ordnance of Singapore (Pte) Ltd (AOS), as well as the General Manager and Director of Defence Electronics of Singapore Pte Ltd (a joint venture company between AOS and Thomson CSF). Dr Goh began his career in 1974 as a Development Engineer with Chartered Industries of Singapore (CIS). He advanced rapidly and was in charge of the Quality Assurance Division of CIS from 1978 to 1986. While in this position, he started and managed Singapore Test Services and Singapore Assay Office from 1981. He ran the Marketing Division of CIS from 1981 to 1987 and was concurrently the General Manager of Unicorn International, and played a significant role in the build-up of international marketing of the Singapore defence industries. He obtained a Bsc (Hons) in 1970 and a PhD in 1973 from the University of Nottingham.

Virgilio S. Labrador

Virgilio S. Labrador, the seminar coordinator, heads the Seminars and Institutional Development Programme of AMIC He began his career as a journalist in the Philippines 13 years ago. He has since worked in advertising, public relations and corporate communications in the Philippines and the United States of America. Before joining AMIC, he worked at the United States Department of Commerce's National Telecommunication and Information Administration in Washington D.C. and with Rockwell Corporation in its headquarters in Seal Beach, California. He holds a bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the University of the Philippines and a master's degree in communications management from the Annenberg School for Communication of the University of Southern California.
