Notes: 1. Drives were benchmarked with dual controllers

2. Performance results achieved under ideal circumstances in a benchmark test environment. Actual customer results will vary based on configuration and infrastructure components.

3. The number of drives used does not reflect an optimized test config. The number of drives required could be lower/higher.

Powering the DS3300

• Power on and off order are important• Power on

• Turn on the power switch on both power-fan canisters on any attached EXP3000 drive trays

• Turn on the power switch on both power-fan canisters on the DS3300 • Check that all lights show normal operation

• Reverse the order for power down. (make sure IO is stopped prior to power down)

Mis-wire Reporting

• When a Mis-wire condition is detected the RAID controller firmware will report the following:

• A “Needs Attention” condition • A critical MEL event indicating the presence of the Mis-wire Condition• A Recovery Action (Recovery Guru) indicating the Mis-wire

“Needs-Attention” Condition

• The presence of a SAS Mis-wire condition is graphically reported to the user in the form of a “Needs Attention” condition

• When the Mis-wire condition is corrected, the “Needs Attention” condition will be removed.

• Change Target Authentication

• Enter Mutual Authentication Permissions

• Change Target Identification

• Change Target Discovery• Configure iSCSI Host

Ports• View/End iSCSI Sessions• View iSCSI Statistics

Change Target Authentication

• None (default)• CHAP

• 12 to 57 characters• May be randomly generated

• Initiator must know secret in order to use the array

Mutual Authentication Permissions

• Two-way authentication

• Enables a client to validate itself to a server and for the server to validate itself to the client

• By default, the initiator authenticates to the target (CHAP)

• With mutual authentication the target authenticates to the initiator

Identification and Networking

• Note the iSCSI name format• Not all initiators support aliases (Microsoft software initiator

currently does not)

Identification and Networking

• If iSNS discovery is enabled for the subsystem but the iSNS server IP address and port number are not located using DHCP, the controller firmware uses the user-supplied iSNS server IP address and port number to configure the iSNS server location.

DS3300 iSCSI Partitions

• Storage Partitions adjustments for iSCSI:• Provide Storage Manager support for iSCSI topology definition • Accommodations for Host Port entities and iSCSI Initiator entities• The Host Context Agent understands how to collect iSCSI information

about host systems and push this information to the controller

Setting the initial out of band IP address

• Default method is to use DHCP• If there is no DHCP server the default IP address for the controllers

are:• Controller 0: 192.168.128.101• Controller 1: 192.168.128.102• Port 2463 (registered with IANA;

http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers)• Storage Manager uses TCP for connections• Storage Manager uses UDP broadcast on local subnet for automatic discovery

• Three methods to change the default values• By using a client with Storage Manager connected out-of-band with a cross-

over cable between the host and the controllers’ management ports• By using a client with Storage Manager connected in-band with a cross-over

cable between the host and the controllers’ host ports
