hp-ux 11i available on DVD in December 2002

In response to the needs of our valued customers, HP is extending our HP-UX 11i Version 1.0 offering to include DVD. In December 2002, customers will have the option of receiving their quarterly updates of HP-UX 11i Version 1.0 for PA-RISC on CD-ROM or on DVD.

The delivery of HP-UX 11i Version 1.0 on DVD will provide tremendous benefits over CD-ROM.

Availability

In December 2002, HP-UX 11i Version 1.0 DVD will be available both for new purchases with new PA-RISC Server and Workstation Systems as well as standalone.

Note that HP will continue to make HP-UX 11i Version 1.0 for PA-RISC available on CD-ROM, so customers who do not have access to DVD drives can continue to use HP-UX 11i Version 1.0 CDs. However, due to significant increases in functionality and features, future enterprise release of HP-UX can be expected to be available on DVD only.

How to get a DVD media Should you wish to switch from CD-ROM to DVD media your HP-UX 11i version 1.0 software, please contact your HP Support Sales Representative. Your media will be changed in your support contract at your contract renewal.

Up to now: SUM was enabling to view and order an update for a single system handle at a time, repeating steps for each handle and each request for update.

New features: Last June we announced that new features were released for HP Software Update Manager (SUM) with the new ITRC release, on April 30th. These enhancements benefit to large support environments, improving order management: materials requesting features and tracking capabilities for up to 50 system handles with a single transaction.

IPFilter HP-UX IPFilter A.03.05.05 on AR0902 (supported on HP-UX 11.0 and 11.11) contains the following changes: Bug fix for NAT support: JAGae20161, panic when ip_natexpire() is called after

at least one NAT table entry is expired. Any attempt to scan through the nat_instances crashes the system.

HA ServiceGuard support: IPFilter can be used in an M/C ServiceGuard environment configured for local failover. Guidelines are also supplied for using IPFilter in a remote failover situation.

The product name has been changed from IPFilter/9000 to HP-UX IPFilter. PAM-Kerberos on HP-UX 11.11 and HP-UX 11.00 Primary reasons to update from the PAM Kerberos 1.0 to 1.10 are listed below: PAM Kerberos validation tool:

This tool will validate the PAM Kerberos configuration. It validates the PAM Kerberos related entries in the configuration files /etc/pam.conf, /etc/pam_user.conf, /etc/krb5.conf and /etc/krb5.keytab and also checks for the presence of the authentication server (KDC).

Session Management: The credentials created by PAM Kerberos for the user while loging-in will not be deleted from the system when the user closes the session, which might result in unnecessary usage of disk space. Hence the session management is now enhanced to provide this facility through pam_sm_close_session(), which will delete the credentials that are created by the pam_sm_setcred().

Configurable Password prompt: The password for PAM-Kerberos is now configurable by specifying the krb_prompt flag to the corresponding entry in the PAM configuration file /etc/pam.conf.

Provides an encrypted channel for general-purpose traffic. Securely access legacy applications through a firewall without modifying the

MLIB 8.3 HP MLIB contains robust callable subprograms, including all BLAS 1, 2, and 3 subroutines, sparse BLAS subroutines, a collection of commonly used dense and sparse linear system solvers, including LAPACK, ScaLAPACK, and SuperLU_DIST; Fast Fourier Transforms (FFTs), and convolutions. HP MPI uses OS-specific enhancements to provide low latency and high bandwidth point-to-point and collective communication routines. It supports multi-protocol execution of MPI applications on clusters of shared-memory servers. HP MPI supports 32- and 64-bit applications, single- and multi-threaded, and provides tools to debug and instrument MPI execution. HP MPI 1.8.2 supports HyberFabric with Hyper Messaging Protocol (HMP).

Ignite-UX. The main features for 0902 Application Release are: VERITAS Volume Manager (VxVM) rootability support - VxVM 3.51 is delivered in

the September 2002 11i version 1.0 release which allows you to select, at installation time, to have your root disk managed by VxVM. However, to use VxVM for the root disk, the depots, and/or golden images, you must upgrade to the September 2002 11i release, which includes the Base-VXVM 3.5 product and the new FEATURE11-11 bundle. FEATURE11-11 and the Base-VXVM product are installed by default when you cold install or update to the September 2002 11i release.

Networking I/O driver products support the 100BT, Gigabit Ethernet, FDDI, HyperFabric, and RS-232 Mux adapters on systems with GSC/HSC and PCI interfaces. The section below provides a list of selectable drivers that are available on the current release of the 11.0 Install/Update/Recovery media.

The Ignite-UX install tool reduces the complexity and number of reboots

required for the installation of HP-UX 11.0 Core OS software and selected patch bundles and/or add-on products.

1. A single-pass process to cold-install HP-UX that requires only one reboot (a second reboot is needed if workstation firmware needs upgrading).

2. The install utility also enables the selection of network drivers, diagnostics and HP-UX patch bundles from the Support Plus CD, and graphics bundles from the Core OS Options CD for Technical Computing systems during the initial cold install process.

3. The installation starts with software from the HP-UX 11.0 Install/Update/Recovery media, the tool then prompts for the next CD based on other selected software and configuration options.

4. System reboot is deferred until the selected software from each CD is installed and configured.

Ignite-UX now supports configuring "A5856A RAID 4Si" cards on 64-bit OS capable systems.

1. From the "welcome" Ignite-UX screen if you press the "Advanced Options" button, you should see a button "Configure A5856A RAID 4Si cards" on systems that have this card installed.

2. Pressing this button will run the "irm" utility to configure the card. 3. If you choose to install HPUX to a disk connected to this card, be sure to also

install the A5856A (I20 RAID) driver software that supports it during the installation.

HP-UX customers can obtain this standalone CD with each HP-UX OE, Enterprise OE and Mission-Critical OE media kit. This special promotion will allow HP-UX developers to use BEA’s WebLogic Server, v.7.0, for twenty (20) free concurrent user licenses and twenty (20) free concurrent client license connections, which expire after six months of activation. Additional information about WebLogic Server and many other BEA products can be found at: http://www.BEA.com There are no changes to the MC/ServiceGuard Distributed Components CD that was distributed in the Mission Critical Operating Environment media kit in March 2002, or the NAG CD that was distributed in the Technical Computing Operating Environment media kit in June 2002 Product(s) Removed from the Operating Environment media: Web Quality of Service (WebQos) is targeted to be removed from the HP-UX OE, Enterprise OE and Mission-Critical OE for the March 2003 quarterly release. 1. Base vPars functionality is available via download on the http://software.hp.com web site via the “hp-ux software pack” link.

2. Full vPars functionality is available by purchasing the vPars product (T1335AC) through normal purchasing channels.

Extension Media Process A process is available so that you can obtain the latest version of software for the products that are in an OE (Operating Environment). While we do not recommend that you use a more recent version of what has been tested in the OE, we realize that some customers may need the absolute latest functionality. The majority of the products in the OE are not codeword protected and can be accessed using the Application Release media; however, for the few products that are codeword protected, the original system customer will now receive a generic codeword certificate in the media kit for the particular OE ordered. This generic codeword will allow you access to the protected bits on the Application Release media only for those specific applications that are associated with a particular OE support contract. You can order these generic codeword certificates (which will include the corresponding Application media) through the existing material request process via your Software Support Specialist or through “Software Update Manager.” The release name for the Extension Media is EX0902. The version on the Application Release media may or may not match the version of the product on the OE media. If a specific OS (Operating System) application updates at the same time on both the OE media and the Application media, the versions will match. If a specific OE application is not updated on the OE media but is updated on the Application Release media, the newest version will be on the Application media.
