Certification of Social responsibility management system according to the specification IQNet SR 10By CQS

Newsletter No22

Management systems according to ISO 9001 provide an important con-tribution to the development of or-ganizations´ quality management systems since the 1990s.

ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 en-able to implement the principles of environmental management and health&safety principles into the management of organizations. There are many other standards

which help to implement manage-ment systems in other specific areas. The fulfilment of these principles in organizations is verified by the man-agement systems certification and surveillance the systems.

The success of any company or orga-nization is significantly influ-

enced by its management, employees, clients and customers, the environment in which the company operates, and by many other factors.

Success is largely determined by social relationships between stakeholders in the broadest sense of the word, there-fore between the entities that have any interest in organization’s activities.

Social responsibility is reflected in the quality of relationships, which are to a large extent perceived on the level of in-terpersonal relationships.

Therein lays a significant difference of the social responsibility aspects from the perspectives, according which the man-agement systems built on the standards mentioned above are assessed.

Since it is not easy to standardize re-quirements for socially responsible companies, the Standard ISO 26000 - Guidance on social responsibility was issued in 2010.

The standard defines the core subjects and issues that need to be taken into account when building a socially re-sponsible company.

The core issues taken into account in the standards are particularly human rights, labour practices, the environ-ment, fair operating practices, consum-er issues and community involvement and development.

Special attention deserves the part of the standards with the title Fair oper-ating practices that covers issues like Anti-corruption, Responsible political involvement, Fair competition, Promot-ing social responsibility in the value chain and Respect for property rights.

The current political situation and the social mood in the Czech Republic show that citizens of the republic perceive the aspects more and more sensitively.

The advantage of the ISO 26000 stan-dard is that it allows building awareness of social responsibility of the organiza-tion and its public perception system-atically, which is much more effective than a form of ethic and other codes that appear to improve the image of companies and organizations.

The introduction of the social respon-sibility management system first of all means implementation of a program of measures to ensure socially responsible behaviour of the organization affecting its image in natural manner.

The importance of social responsibil-ity motivates organizations not only to introduce the social responsibility ele-ments to their management systems, but it leads them to

DQS UL Group establishes new company for Food Safety SolutionsBy DQS

Newsletter No22

DQS UL Group has grown by add-ing another subsidiary: with DQS UL CFSI / DQS UL Food Safety Solu-tions GmbH, located in Frankfurt am Main (Germany), the group focusses on the requirements of safety and hygiene management. Managing Director of the new company, which commenced operations in June 2012, is Dr.-Ing. Sied Sadek.

InterviewWhat exactly is the range of services

offered by this new member of DQS UL Group, and who are your target customers? Our main focus is on consumer goods,

particularly food and feed, textiles, cos-metics, and other articles of daily use. At this time, our service portfolio com-

prises of more than 40 different

standards and legal requirements, such as the industry standards FSSC, IFS Stan-dard, IFS Logistics, IFS Broker, IFS HPC; as well as BRC IoP and BRC Consumer. We are also authorized certification body for the SEDEX (Supplier Ethical Data Ex-change) guidelines. With all of this, we are able to cover all of the essential re-quirements for safety and hygiene man-agement that manufacturers, logistics providers, and retailers have to meet along their chain of supply.

The new company used to be a busi-ness unit within DQS GmbH. What spoke in favour of spinning off this unit into an independent company? The “Food Safety” unit of DQS GmbH

was established in the year 2002, and had already received their first authori-zations for QS and BRC. In the course of

the years, though, this unit had grown disproportionately, developing into a compact-sized “one-stop” competence centre, where customers were provided with everything from the initial contact all the way through to the issue of their certificate. In addition, the boundaries between product and system certifi-cation are more in flux in our business sector than most other. It was therefore only logical to take this step now, espe-cially in light of an internationally grow-ing market.

What will change for your customers now?The new company structure will al-

low us much more proximity to our customers, an opportunity that is par-ticularly close to my heart: I intend to spend about 80 % of my time in direct customer contact. We want to use face-to-face meetings to consistently align our services with the needs of our cus-tomers, as well as to win new custom-ers. And being a 100 % subsidiary of DQS UL Group, we enjoy the backing

of a strong full-service provider. So no matter which assessment services our customers need to maintain or improve their competitive ability - they can be provided from one source.
