Syria Is 7th (Muslim) Country Bombed By 2009 Nobel Peace Prize Winner

    By Tyler DurdenCreated 09/23/2014 - 12:17

Authored by Glenn Greenwald, originally posted at The Intercept [6],

The U.S.today began bombing [7]targets inside Syria, in concert with its lovely andinspiring group of five allied regimes: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates,Qatar, and Jordan.

That means that Syria becomes the 7th predominantly Muslim country bombedby the 2009 Nobel Peace LaureateafterAfghanistan [8],Pakistan [9],Yemen [10],Somalia [11],Libya [12]andIraq [13].

The utter lack of interest in what possible legal authority Obama has to bomb Syria is

telling indeed: empires bomb who they want, when they want, for whatever reason(indeed, recall that Obama bombed Libya even afterCongress explicitly voted against[14]authorization to use force, and very few people seemed to mind that abject act oflawlessness; constitutional constraints are not for warriors and emperors).

It was just over a year ago thatObama officials were insisting [15]that bombingand attacking Assad was a moral and strategic imperative. Instead, Obama is nowbombing Assads enemies whilepolitely informing his regime [16]of its targets inadvance. It seems irrelevant on whom the U.S. wages war; what matters it that it be atwar, always and forever [17].

Six weeks of bombinghasnt budged ISIS in Iraq[18], but it hascaused ISISrecruitment to soar [19].Thats all predictable: the U.S. hasknown for years [20]thatwhat fuels and strengthens anti-American sentiment (and thus anti-Americanextremism) is exactly what they keep doing: aggression in that region. If you know that, then they know that. At this point, its more rational to say they do all of this not despitetriggering those outcomes, but becauseof it. Continuously creating and strengtheningenemies is a feature, not a bug, as it is what then justifies the ongoing greasing of theprofitable and power-vesting machine of Endless War.

If there is anyone who actually believes that the point of all of this is a moral crusade tovanquish the evil-doers of ISIS (as the U.S. fights alongside its close Saudi friends),

please readProfessor Asad AbuKhalils explanation today[21]

of how Syria is a multi-tiered proxy war. As the disastrous Libya intervention should conclusively andpermanently demonstrate, the U.S. does not bomb countries for humanitarianobjectives. Humanitarianism isthe pretense, not the purpose [22].
