This Installation Instruction sheet is intended as a guide for replacing or installing hardware and for setting up functionality in the recorder. Refer to the User manual for detailed operational requirements. The QX, SX and DR Graphic recorders are designed for ease of assembly with minimal disturbance to the rest of the unit. If unsure, please return the unit to your supplier for repair or upgrade. Removing the case and opening the back of the recorder should only be performed under the following circumstances: When an item of hardware requires individual replacement. When an item of hardware is to be retrospectively fitted. In all other instances it is recommended that the complete unit be returned to an authorised agent or service centre. For Agency Approved recorders the product needs to be upgraded or repaired by an Authorized Repair facility

WARNING HAZARDOUS VOLTAGES Disconnect all power to the recorder before removing the case and attempting any maintenance procedures. For DR Graphic Recorders: Disconnect all the power, CJCs and IO cabling to the recorder before removing the IO cards chassis or power supply chassis and attempting any maintenance procedures.

SAFETY TESTS Upon completion of service procedures detailed in this instruction verify the installation per the installation section of the product manual. Failure to comply with these instructions could result in death or serious injury

CAUTION OBSERVE ANTI-STATIC PRECAUTIONS Refer to BS EN61340-5-1: 2001. Basic specification. Protection of electrostatic sensitive devices. Full anti-static precautions MUST be observed when in contact with the electronics of your recorder.

SAVE DATA, SETUPS AND LAYOUTS Removal of PCBs and battery back-up will result in the loss of all non-volatile data. Ensure all data and set-ups are saved. Failure to comply with these instructions may result in product damage.

Before attempting to repair or upgrade a recorder, it is advisable to clear a sufficient work space so components such as the front panel can be rested on the work surface without getting scratched or damaged.

Panel Mounting

Before a new processor board can be fitted the recorder must be removed from the panel. Loosen the mounting clamp screws, slide the clamp towards the rear of the recorder and remove the clamps and the recorder.

Removing the Case and Rear Panel

To fit a new Processor board the case and back panel must be removed. The case and back panel can be removed as a single assembly. Remove the 2 screws on each side of the case as shown in the figures below.

Removing the Processor Board

To access the processor board the recorder must be placed face down on the bench. Ensure the surface is suitable and that the front of the recorder will not get scratched.

The SX Recorder has a clip inside the chassis assembly to keep the display cable in place during transit.

The display cable must be disconnected at the board connector before removing the processor board completely.

Remove the 4 screws (M3x6mm) that secure the processor board to the chassis. The figures below show the position of these screws. Figure 3 QX, Figure 4 SX.

Once the 4 screws are removed the Processor board can be pulled away from the Mother board. The board can be folded down to rest on the bench with all cables still attached.

QX Recorder

Carefully remove the inverter connector by gently pulling upwards. Pull on the connector body, not on the cables.

Carefully remove the touch screen connector by gently pulling upwards. Pull on the connector body, not on the cables.

To remove the display connector the top of the connector is pulled up to release the flat cable. The Processor board should now be free and can be removed.

SX Recorder

Carefully remove all the connectors by gently pulling upwards. Pull on the connector body, not on the cables.

The Processor board should now be free and can be removed. Remove the internal compact flash card and if necessary fit to the new Processor board. Remove the user accessible compact flash card if fitted and replace in the new board.

Fitting the new Processor Board

Position the new Processor Board as shown in Figures 3 or 4 as appropriate. Connect the inverter cable. The connector must be properly orientated before insertion into J13. Failure to

do so will bend the pins and may permanently damage the new processor board. Connect the touch screen cable, ensuring there are no twists in the cable. Connect the display connector. On the QX recorder the top of the display connector should be pulled up, the

cable inserted and the top of the connector pushed down to clamp the cable in place. The QX recorder display cable must be fitted with the blue insulator towards the back of the recorder. The SX recorder display cable is simply pushed on, but must be correctly aligned and fit the display cable back into the clip on the side of the chassis if the recorder is being transported.

Fold the processor board up, being careful not to trap any of the cables and align the processor board connector with the mother board. Push the processor board on and ensure the connectors are fully mated.

 Re-fit the four M3 screws.

Re-fit the case and back panel assembly

Fit the case by carefully sliding it on from the rear of the recorder. Ensure the case is orientated correctly, with the power supply cooling slots on the top of the recorder.

Slide the case/back panel fully forward ensuring that no internal cables get trapped between the case and front bezel.

The case should sit flat on the back of the front bezel. Re-fit the four screws that secure the case. (QX M3 x 6mm, SX M4 x 8mm) Screw should be tightened to a torque of 120cNm.

DR Graphic Recorder

Panel Mounting

For connecting a new processor board it is not required to remove the recorder from the panel mounting. Only the IO card chassis containing the CPU board needs to be removed for this procedure.

Removing the IO Chassis 1. Open the door (Bezel side) of the unit by unlocking the latch.

2. Remove the 2x No.4/40 screws of slanted chassis and remove the slanted chassis.

3. Remove the slant chassis plate on the back side of the IO card chassis.

4. Remove all the cables attached to the processor board.

5. Remove 3x No.4/40 screws on top right side of IO card chassis shown in red colour in Figure 9.

6. Remove 2x No.4/40 screws on hinge of IO card chassis shown in blue colour in Figure 9.

7. Loosen 2x captive screws shown in green colour in Figure 9.

8. Remove two USB cables from the processor board connectors.

After this, the IO card chassis can be removed from the recorder for easier processor board removal.

9. After taking out the IO card chassis, remove the 3x No.4/40 screws shown in red colour. Also remove 1x No.4/40 screw on the other side of the IO card chassis front panel. See Figure 10 (a and b).

10. Remove the 3x (M3 X 8) screws connected to the IO cards and backplane card shown in green colour. See Figure 10 (b).

11. Pull out the IO cards from Slot A and Slot B.

12. After removing the IO cards, pull out the backplane card vertically through the guides on the side of IO card chassis.

Note: Hold the IO card chassis by one hand and pull out the backplane board by other hand to make the removal easier.

13. Once the backplane card is removed, the Processor board is completely accessible for removal.

Removing the Processor Board 14. Remove the 4x No.4/40 screws shown in red circles.

15. Take out the old processor board for replacement with the new one.

16. A new processor board with a pre-installed SD card should be installed into the chassis.

17. Install the processor board at the same location from where it was removed in step 12. The mounting holes on the processor board should match with the stand offs on the IO card chassis.

18. Fit the 4x No.4/40 screws shown in red circles to hold the processor board firmly in its place. See Figure 13.

21. Make sure that the earth bracket screws (M3 X 8) for IO cards and backplane card are connected for a tight connection as shown in green colour in Figure 15 (b).

22. Reconnect the IO card chassis front panel and connect to it 4x No.4/40 screws as shown in Figure 15 (b and c) in red colour.

23. Put the IO card chassis back into its place to reconnect the following:

• 3x No.4/40 screws on top right side of IO card chassis shown in red colour in Figure 16.

• 2x No.4/40 screws on hinge of IO card chassis shown in blue colour in Figure 16.

• 2x captive screws shown in green colour in Figure 16.

• Two USB extension cables to the USB Connectors on processor board.
