DEFINITIONS RELATED TO RCD’s

The RCD constantly monitors the vectorial sum of the current passing through all the conductors. In normal conditions the vectorial sum is zero (I1+I2=0) but in case of an earth fault, the vectorial sum differs from zero (I1+I2=Id), this causes the actuation of the relay and therefore the release of the main contacts.

RCD’S CLASSIFICATION�++/��~��`]JJ{~`]JJ�

'q"�� The type AC RCDs are designed to trip with sinusoidal residual currents which occur suddenly or slowly rise in magnitude. The level on immunity to nuisance tripping: 250 A 8/20 μs.

'q"��Certain devices during faults can be the source of non-sinusoidal earth leakage currents (DC components) due to the electronic components e.g.: diodes, thyristors….. The type A RCD’s are designed to ensure that under this conditions the residual current devices operate on sinusoidal residual current and also with pulsating direct current(*) which occur suddenly or slowly rise in magnitude. The level on immunity to nuisance tripping: 250 A 8/20 μs.

'q"��? The protection is identical to the Type A products however there is additional built in high immunity to transient currents, on 8/20μs impulses. The level on immunity to nuisance tripping: 3000 A 8/20 μs.

'q"�� RCD’s type A or AC have instantaneous tripping. In order to provide full people protection in vertical installation (no class II) with more than one circuit, as well as to ensure the service in the installation in case of earth leakage in one of the circuits or to avoid unwanted tripping because of harmonics, high connection currents due to the use of motors, reactive loads, or variable speed drivers, we need to use selective RCD’s at the top of the installation. Any RCD type S is selective to any other instantaneous RCD installed downstream with lower sensitivity. The level on immunity to nuisance tripping: 3000 A 8/20 μs.

NZS3000:2007 Clause 2.9.2.5 (h)(1) for use as a smoke seal in a required exit.

Uses new 3G chassis system for split chassis when light and power metering or load shed-

ding is required.

Removable mounting plate to allow equipment to be mounted prior to

The Record PlusTM family of circuit breakers has been developed as a line of aesthetically and technically coordinated protection devices for low voltage distribution and control applications.The circuit breakers are available in four sizes, each of which is tailored to the individual requirements associated with its application.The line offers a current range running from 3A to 1600A in 1, 3 and 4 pole.Numerous versions as fixed, plug in and draw out are available and the line is completed with a full range of accessories.The design allows the use of thermal-magnetic, magnetic-only, and electronic trip units.Refer to Technical Section for Selectivity & Application tables including enhanced selectivity & type-2 coordinations.

RATING PLUGS

Each SMR 2 device has three plug in elements of which at least two are needed to allow the device to work properly.

1) A rating plug is plugged into the jack at the top left of the device. Without rating plug the SMR2 device will not provide any circuit protection and the breaker will trip immediately.

2) A battery (1) module (supplied with trip unit) needs to placed in the appropriate module this to power the thermal memory within the trip unit when the breaker has tripped. If not installed the thermal memory function is disabled. The battery module also enhances the functionality of the Trip Reason Indicator Module.Expected life span under normal circumstances three to five years.Replacement type 2 x BR1220 or equivalent.

3) An Extension module providing extra functionality and/or features. A standard SMR2 is supplied with a blank non function module.

On switching to Motor Protection (M) a phase loss protection is initiated.Do not use for line protection.

Ground fault protectionFor protection against indirect contact , 3 Pole MCCB requires Neutral CT.GF is adjustable: 0.2 to 1 x sensor ratings in 9 steps. GFD: 5 delay time bands + 5 x I2t rampA breaker trip due to a ground fault can be channelled through the communication output (when present) or be wired out to the contact module (type ECM).

Load shedding deviceDesigned to switch off non priority loads before the LT function trips the breaker due to an overload.The device has two channels, adjustable from 0.55 to 1 x the set LT.Each channel is equipped with a time delay directly proportional to that of the LTD setting. Chanel 1 is set to a time delay equal to LTD/2 Channel two is set to a time delay of LTD/4. If the current drops below the set thresholds the signal is reset . The reset signal being given in a time proportional with the chosen LTD curve. A signal due to a load shedding event can be channelled through the communication output (when present) or be wired out to the contact module.

Communication Modbus rtu The following data can be viewed:- The position of the switches on all installed devices, thus providing the settings of the breaker.- Reason for Trip (LT ST Inst. GF)- Load shedding orders.- Zone selective interlock occurrences.The external contact module type FAMECM is required. A 24V DC auxiliary supply is needed that supplies the system through the external contact module.

Ground fault alarmThe Ground Fault Alarm offers the same functionality as the Ground Fault protection, however ONLY an alarm signal is given and the breaker is NOT TRIPPED. GFA: is adjustable: 0.2 to 0.8 x sensor ratings in 12 steps. GFD: 5 delay time bands + 5 x I2t ramp.A 100mA/240Volt NC contact is included in the module and can wired out through the 12 pole breaker connector plug on the breaker.

Trip Reason Indicatorsthree LED’s are provided on the trip unit front face. LT trip. ST trip.I trip. Auxiliary power, is required light up the appropriate LED. Or the addition of a ‘Trip Reason Button’.The three trip signals can be channelled through the communication output (when present) or be wired out) to the contact module (type ECM).

Zone Selective InterlockWhen the ZSI is active the SMR2 trip unit will trip the breaker, ignoring the time delays of the STD or GFD devices.However, when a ZSI signal is received from a downstream breaker, the STD or GFD of the upstream SMR2 device revert to wherever the adjustment is set . The distance between breakers is a maximum of 30 meters. The use of shielded cables allows the distance between breakers to be increased to 1 km. A maximum of five SMR2 trip units can be linked in this manner.The ZSI option requires a 24VDC auxiliary supply. One FAMECM module connected with one of the breakers in the ZSI loop can be used. The FAECM2 needs then connected to an auxiliary supply of 24V DC. When the breaker is equipped with a “COM” option the ZSI status signal is also available on the communication output.

AmmeterThe device has an accuracy of 10%.Indicates the current in the highest loaded phase. Use of the push buttons on the module to select current in one of the other phases or neutral (if present). After a set delay of 10 seconds the device reverts to its standard indication setting.

The extension modules are simple plug-in devices that allow the user to enhance the SMR2 as a protective device or to add in extra functional features. Each module has a low level electronic output that can be channelled through the communication bus (when present) or in some cases trigger a 1A/250 Volt changeover contact placed in an external contact module containing four contacts (type FAMECM). The in/out put terminals are located within the trip unit pouch just below the battery modules and can be accessed by removing a break away cover.

The EntelliGuard™ G range of Power Circuit breakers encompasses a lineof Three and Four pole Air Circuit Breakers with Nominal Currents rangingfrom 400 to 6400Amp in three basic envelopes.

All Power Circuit Breakers are designed to allow multiple interruptions offault currents. Here the tested and certifi ed Service Breaking capacity value is in all cases equal to the stated Ultimate Breaking Capacity.

Envelope 1 can be used in networks with voltages up to 1000V and can be acquired with current ratings from 400 to 2000Amps at 50°C.This type is available in interruption ratings (Ics=Icu) of 50, and 65kA.A version suitable for DC applications is available.

Envelope 2 can be used in networks with voltages up to 1000V and can be acquired with current ratings from 400 to 4000Amps at 50°C.This type is available in interruption ratings (Ics=Icu) of 50, 65, 85 and 100kA. A version suitable for DC applications is available.

Envelope 3 can be used in networks with voltages up to 1000V and can be acquired with current ratings from 3200 to 6400Amps at 50°C.This type is available in interruption ratings (Ics=Icu) of 100 and 150kA.A version suitable for DC applications is available.

One of the most important user parameters is not the nominal rating of an ‘Air Circuit Breaker’ in free air but its current Rating within a panel or enclosure.

Breakers ‘enclosed ratings’ are determined by the heat dissipation produced by the device and its ability to carry current at the temperature within the enclosure.

EntelliGuard™ G Power Circuit breakers have been designed with low Power dissipation values and allow relatively high currents at high ambient temperatures. This is applicable for breakers in the fi xed and Draw out Pattern as indicated in the graph insert.

For extreme cases a special dual cluster draw out version of an envelope 2 breaker is available allowing a very limited derating when the breaker is used at high ambient temperatures within an enclosure.
