Dispensing of Medication Lab Course Credits: 03 (03 hr / wk)

Note:

1. Wherever possible Pharmacopoeial products should be prepared. 2. Latest text books and pharmacopoeias should be referred. 3. For all preparations tests will include organoleptic tests and simple tests such as density (wt/ml),

specific gravity, angle of repose, bulk density etc: student are not expected to perform assays and other long time evaluation parameters.

4. Special attention to be paid to the cleanliness and precise working (including documentation) of the candidate in the laboratory.

5. Minimum 12 exercise should be conducted

1. Weighing technique for dispensing: balance sensitivity, Weight box calibration and accuracy, Precision of weighing and error evaluation.

Measuring techniques: Precision and accuracy of measuring and error evaluation Devices for accurate dosage measurement

Objective:

Inorganic chemicals have been used in Pharmacy and Medicine for many reasons ranging from therapeutic to nutritional supplements to Pharmaceutical necessities. The course is designed to study the principles of Inorganic Chemistry to Pharmaceuticals and to study those Inorganic agents used as pharmaceutical aids and necessities or as therapeutic and diagnostic agents.

Introduction to Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry, the significance of the subject (01) Atomic structure: Bohr's model, Wave nature of electrons, Schrodinger's Wave equation, Quantum number, Geometry of Orbitals. (03) Nature of Chemical Bond: (02) Ionic, Covalent, hydrogen, Co-ordinate, valence bond & Molecular orbital theory. Pharmacopoeia : Various Pharmacopoeias, Monograph, I P monograph of Sodium bicarbonate / Boric acid (02) Impurities in pharmaceuticals: (04)

Impurity, types of impurity, sources of impurity & their control, limit test, various limit tests, limit test for chloride, sulphate, lead, Iron, arsenic.

Nuclear Chemistry and Radio pharmaceuticals: (04)

Nuclear Composition, stability of isotope, methods of nuclear radiation, measurement, nuclear reaction, dosimetry, fission and fusion, measurement of radioactivity, modes of dacay, half life period, artificial radioactivity. Radio pharmaceuticals, application of Radiopharmaceuticals in medicines & Pharmacy, Iodine-31, Phosphurus-32,Iron-59. Radiopaque contrast media, Barium sulphate, Quality control of radiopharmaceuticals.

Definition, Classification, Antacids, Acidifying agents, protective and adsorbents, saline cathartics. Magnesium sulphate, Sodium bicarbonate, Aluminium hydroxide, Bismuth subcarbonate, Kaolin, Hydrochloric acid.
